| Sorry this is so long Background...ADD, Hypothyroid, possible Adrenal Fatigue Syndrome just to start. It simply amazes me that these doctors both primary care, Endocrinologists, shrinks + many others I'm sure don't seem to have a clue! I just found out (Endocrinologist)that I have liver damage from (assuming) the meds I take...come to find out the liver count was high back in August (dr never noticed it) when I gained 18 pounds in 16 days and had to fight to get a blood workup done! I thought that kind of weight gain was extreme. 50 in less than 6 months So I get my way and find out it is my thyroid that is burning out...rapidly. This is affecting my sleeping more than anything which in turn dominoes to other problems I decided to visit a phsychiatrist to try to get another evaluation on the ADD since it seems like every kind of disease has the same symptoms and I figure I would prefer to get off meds, especially if I don't necessarily need them...This Lady was far out there...thank the good lord I have insurance because her rates are $300 per hour. So in the middle of my Evaluation (1.5 hrs)she looks up at me (mind you I am pouring my heart out to her trying to cover everything) and says, "Do you know where I can get good wings?" I looked at her for a sec and thought okay I am at a shrink so maybe this is a trick question...I responded, "uh...I heard Hooters has good wings" so then she puts her little earpiece in and dials away. Brace yourselves...this is what she said..."Hey honey its J......I am working right now but can you call the office and leave me a message on where you got those delicious hot wings you served New Years Eve". A bit later she called a prescription...for herself..into the pharmacy and then because she was fasting she had to stop to take a pee break..not to mention she walked into the office 40 minutes late. So I go in my primary care Dr office a few days ago, blood pressure is 99/55, heartbeat was 53 I believe..my dipstick Dr. just looks at me and says "wow, is your blood pressure usually this low?" as I am pleading with her to HELP ME!! I just want to sleep again...I mention the Adrenal Fatigue Syndrome..she looks at me and says, "I've never heard of that, you might want to talk to your endocrinologist about that one." So I ask you, can anyone get a degree in medicine and successfully practice when they truly don't know their heads from their a$$es? Oops...sorry this was so long...maybe it is ADD

| I know what you mean. We put so much trust in doctors and I guess we have no other choice but you really do have to take the bull by the horns and almost become an expert yourself. I had gall bladder problems several years ago. I kept going to the doctor telling her about these attacks I was having. She kept saying I needed to lose a little weight and elevate my bed and she'd give me a prescription for an antacid. It went on for 3 years, finally I went to the doctor crying saying you have to do something. I am having these attacks 4 or more times a week and I'm up all nite and I'm having trouble functioning. Finally she sends me to a specialist. It turns out it was my gallbladder and it was so badly infected my surgeon said it was almost gangrene. I had to have the full abdominal surgery with the drain. Anyways, that's my story, we just really have to push I guess when we feel strongly about things and get a new doctor if the current one's won't listen. Good Luck! |

Donating YT 30K Club Member | Sounds like you havw been through the wringer with bad doctors. Not that is the same but my Pom was diagnosed 2 1/2 years ago with thyroid disease, meds wer3 given nor relief of symptoms, so went to a specialist diagnosed Cushings disease but her on very toxic medicine that I had to war gloves to touch, she kept getting worse, switched specialists, found out the medicine had but her into liver failure, so they stopped the cushings tx as liver problem was more serious, put on meds for liver disease, made her sick, so I decided to wean her off the meds. SHe has been so much better. I hope you can find the right doctor to help you with your medical problems. Don't give up, I will keep you in my prayers.

| I would probably Call the AMA regarding this visit.....that is not proper behavior by anyone, even a psychiatrist....that is no excuse. I wonder about her ability to practice and would stress that to the person at the American Medical Association. If you ignore this behavior, it could possibly lead to a patient getting medications that would be detrimental... I am in shock! |

| i so know what you mean, and i'm so sorry youhad to go through this... my dad a couple of years ago was having trouble with his back and legs, and we went from one dr to the next and NO ONE could diagnose him, they ran all kinds of tests from cardiograms to thorax xrays, mri's etc... and at no point could ANYONE tell him that he had two herniated discs... he's a diabetic so he developed neuropathy from it all, and so lost a lot of muscle mass and weight while he waited to know what it was that was wrong with him... we are from venezuela so he went back over there to get checked out by drs that we knew, and was diagnosed and had surgery within A WEEK! he's fully recovered now... no problems WHATSOEVER! but sadly still in search of a good dr... sorry didn't mean to hijack! i agree with what an above poster said, Call the AMA

| I am sorry, I didn't have time this morning, but I wanted to say I truly hope you do something about this. That is one of the worst things I have heard a dr doing and my mouth was hanging wide open when I read it. I also wanted to say I have been to several endocrinologists, and I have learned Drs are only people. They make educated guesses based on your symptoms, but can be, and are wrong many times. My original endocrinologist said I had something, end up taking a bunch of meds, not getting better. 4 years down the line, I go see another who says I dont have what the first dr said I had. I am currently taking a bunch of meds and in between diagnosis's. My mom always tells me if one dr cant help you, keep going until you find one that can. And please, you DO NOT have to tolerate that appalling behavior. Do you really want to trust your health to a "professional" like that?

| Thank you for all your well wishes! I am sure that eventually everything will work itself out..and no I will not return to the psycho woman and do plan to report her odd behavior. Its amazing isn't it? I imagine by the time I am done I will be able to take the test for my PhD! The internet is a wonderful thing when you have so many things wrong.

| TJDmom...I had the same thing happen to me from 98 until 2001 I kept having these horrible attacks of pain...even called 911, went to the ER several times but by the time I would get there my pain would subside. They finally did an ultrasound and saw that I was full of stones so out came my gall bladder.
