How do you mop?
 
What do you use to mop your floors? I used to use a swifter wet until I found out that they're bad for the dogs! Now I don't know what to use and my floors are in desperate need of a scrubbing! I'd really prefer not to use a bucket of water and a real mop if I can help it because I'm going to end up with water all over the place! Please tell me what you do?

I have hardwood through out so I usually use some murphys oil soap and hot water with a regular mop. I don't like those swifters becuase 1) they run out of dampness once I finish one room and 2) I don't feel like they really clean the floors.

I hate mops. I always just get down on my hands and knees to clean the floor with a pet friendly natural type cleaner.

Thats what I do too. I dont think a mop gets them clean enough

You go hon. The only place I scrub like that is the bathroom and kitchen floors because they are tiled.

I hate mopping but I do love to sit on the floor and walk barefoot so it has to be cleaned.

I use the swiffer... I have a bad back so it make it real easy on me. and Cody is afraid of the mop so he doesn't even bother coming in the kitchen. i bring his food and water into livingroom while floor dries.

The rumor about Swiffer not being safe for pets is not true.

With that being said, I use both dry and wet Swiffers.

ETA: I know the article refers to "Wet Jet" but it's all the same, I assume.

I have always gotten down on my hands and knees. I have recently got
a Shark steam mop! Love it , love it. I will never get on my hands and
knees again. I have marble tile on my dinning room floor and down the hall
and tile on the bathroom floors. On the kitchen floor I have Pergo.
It does a wonderful job. Done in 15mins. I will never be without one.

I'm another one on my hands and knees!.....I just can't get the edges and corners with a mop....I use white vinegar and Dawn......

I LOATHE mopping!!!!

We have wood floors and my DH makes us hand dry it with a towel to avoid any streaks, etc.....(aurgh)

i really want to try this. i had a shark vacum that was awful and i was afraid to buy the steam mop.

After seeing how many of you get down on your hands and knees, I'm thinking that I'm really slacking at this house cleaning thing! I'd hate for you all to see my house! :rolleyes:

Anyways, I've been doing some surfing this afternoon and came across several articles talking about the Swiffer rumor. It does still concern me that they put a warning on the box saying it's not safe for small children and pets. And I know it does because I just looked at a box last night.

I think I might get one anyways and just keep the dogs off the floor until it's dry. :confuse2: I don't know, I have to do something...

i don't know of a cleaning product without a warning label....i'm going to start using mine again. i retired it to the garage and it's coming back out. it's much easier than mopping. plus..my little guy doesn't lick the floor or come near the wet floor.

Meyers and method make great floor cleaning products all natural and safe for our babies!
Method has a o-mop you can get at target and the solution smells wonderful!
I would also suggest using water and vinegar about every 3rd time you mop to get rid of residue buildup from cleaning solutions!

Wow, Ladies, hands and knees!!! :eek: Im impressed. Didn't think anyone did that any more. You are welcome to come here and do that. I use a good old fashion mop.:D Tried the swifer, but went back to regular mop. As far as cleaning solution, Nolee doesn't lick the floor, but I also don't mop with him inside or around.

:D I'm another hands and knees scrubber = I use a brush and a bucket! Since my last birthday though, I have some trouble getting back up!:D

DH does it & I don't know what he uses. He also cleans the toilet & tub, runs the sweeper, makes the coffee & does the laundry.

(He took over the chores Aug 2006)

Hands & knees here to, most usually... Mops suck.. you gotta get it wet, wring it out..... it doesnt seem to get clean like a good ol' hand scrubbin'
I did however JUST TODAY buy me a "Orange Glo Hardwood floor" swiffer type deal for my hardwood flors... which is alot. I have been hands & kneein' it til now... I will see if this works or not... If not... back to hands & knees. :rolleyes: annnnndd. I will definately invest in some knee pads cause it KILLS my knees

I have this mop that has already the squiggy(sp) thingy on it... and you can buy the replacement heads for it for like 5 bucks.. the whole mop at first costs around 8-10 dollars but i like it since I dont have to be squeezing the mop myself with my hand or replacing pads... this one has it on it.. you just lock it into place.. twist and it does it for you... ohh and we use pinesol..

I use the Orange glo cleaner on my wood... I LOVE IT! and it has a great smell....
On my tile, I use a spray bottle(filled with William Sonoma all natural cleaner) and a TOWEL... I cannot use a mop because of a bad back and the towel just gets the grout cleaner.... I call it my Leg Exercise Time.... LOL I walk around the kitchen on the towel...
I want to try the steamer now...

I just love the great news that I never thought about on here. I use the steam mop too and love it! Love it! Love it! I agree though...I hated the vaccuum, but am SO GLAD I got the mop! Huge difference in quality. I only wish I had a DH or a daughter to do it for me!!! :D I also agree that is good to use good ole vinegar and water on surfaces to help any unwanted residues. I only do that like once every two months though. Then again its just me and my baby in the house. Luckily I have a pretty clean pup....(crossing my fingers for her to stay that way!!) ;)

I use the Swiffer Wet Jet, but use vinegar and water in a spray bottle or Odo Ban in a spray bottle instead of the Wet Jet solution. I have laminate floors.
