i need your help, opinions, etc.... Lexi my 3 yr old is in dance and last night they got fitted for there costume, for the dance recital this summer. The girls were all so excited over the costumes and Lexi was just thrilled. They started learning there dance and Lexi was doing so good. We were all so excited about her very first recital.......Well then I got to thinking? I wonder what date it's one. Because Lauryn, (my 14) leaves June 28th with her grandpa to go to there house in Maine for 2 weeks and I was hoping it wouldnt be then cause Lauryn would be so bummed. Well I ask the girl and guess what date she said.....JUNE 20TH I almost bursted out in tears. (please don't think I'm being a baby) That is the date of the meet-up. I've already registered, made plans with Missy and her daughter, and I am soooooo excited and thrilled to go and meet everyone and just to get away (since I've never been away from the family in 15 yrs+) Now I'm stuck.....How can I miss her first recital? I would probably just sit and cry knowing I was missing it. I've very involved in my kids life and I'm just not that type of parent...I would feel like I'm picking my dog over my child. My hubby said I should just go that he would handle all of it and send me a video the next day at the hotel. My mom said I should go, everyone is telling me to go, but I just wouldnt feel right and would be missing out on her first little recital that she is soooo excited about. She is my last baby and i'm really having trouble dealing with that fact. lol Please give me your opinions, advice, etc. :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( |
Aww man! That stinks! Maybe you can leave after her recital is over? Is that an option? If not, I would so just toss a coin! haha |
OHno! That's a really tough choice! It's her FIRST!! You cant possibly miss that but then again, she's three years old...so maybe she wont even remember if you missed it. Technically, you can have hubby send you the video [thru email/video hosting-Youtube] and you can watch it the same day..so you DIDNT miss it. Thats an idea..I'm so sneaky! BY BY NO MEANS am I advising you to skip out and choose the YT Meetup! ((I mean, evrything's booked and paid for,, furbaby might not be too happy either!)) |
My daughters dad had to miss our daughters first gymanstics competition because his wife was graduating college. I took video, lots of pictures, and let her know that her daddy wishes he could be there, but he just couldn't. she was VERY understanding... your daughter is very young...i promise that she probably won't even remember this :) so on one hand, I think you should go to the meetup...on another hand, as a mother, i know how torn you are. I will say, I was a little upset that her dad couldn't be there...i felt like he was putting his wife before his daughter. but everyone reminded me that she will have many many more competitions and he will be at the others..or else I can have him beheaded LOL really...she is so young. 3 years old is very very young, she will have many other recitals...and she probably will be so enthralled by the atmosphere and she knows her daddy will be there...and her big sister. I think it will be perfectly fine if you dont go. and the 2 of you can watch the video together too :) i'm just as torn as you are. i'm no help...sorry :( |
Hmm, tough predicament. However you didn't know of the performance date when you made plans for the Yorkie meetup. There will be other recitals, performances, etc. while it would tear me apart as well, you didn't mean any harm and you didn't know. She will have a lot of family members there, .... yes, I know, nobody is as special as mom, but then you remind yourself, there will be other performances. Perhaps you can set up your home, so that she can perform just for you, give her lots of attention, cheer and it will be special to the both of you. Just trying to help. |

I know she is so young and probably won't remember, but I sure would. I can't go out after the recital because its friday night., thurs night i guess is rehersel, and wed. is pictures, etc. We were leaving Thurs morning to drive to Kansas. I already made plans with Missy (which she knows about this) I know she was going even before I was, but still that would be letting her down too. Either way I go, I'm gonna be letting someone down. I'm one of those people who are hard ever away from there kids. Lexi acutally goes to work with me each and everyday. I'm with her 24 / 7 and she is such a mommy's girl. I work for a heating and cooling company and she's been here since 1 month old. I want to go to the meetup so bad, but I don't think I'd ever forgive myself. Gosh.....i just don't know??????????? |
Plus...you know how men are.. They don't pay attention to the detail....I mean how would her hair look....I'd be scared to see that. My hubby thinks I'm crazy for making such a big deal about it, but I ask him if there was a nascar raced scheduled on the same day wouldnt you been upset. and he said yeah your right. |

but I totally know how you feel. :( |
Denise, I was thinking the same thing and even told Missy.. that maybe your DH can record the recital for you?? Also, he can take pictures of the recital from his phone.. that way you would get them right away.. I know you said Lexi is young.. but maybe you can ask HER:confused: |

Personally, I would not miss my daughters first recital. You can not bring back those memories, and as important as my pups are to me - I would never ever want me family to think that I would choose them over my human kids. I have a daughter that took dance and the first recital is a big deal for them. We all went (grandparents and all) sat and smiled (even shed a tear or two!:p)then went out to dinner afterwards to show her how proud we all were of her! You have to do what you think is best! Your dogs wont remember whether or not they went to the meet up or not but your daughter will! (BTW..........good name choice - my daughter is Lexi too!:) |

you should talk to your daughter. if she seems like she would be disappointed if you dont' go, then you have to consider who you would rather disappoint...some of your YT friends,..or your daughter. you really don't want to disappoint her. I would suggest talking to her to see how she would feel about it. and add your feelings into that...and I am willing to be that you go to her recital :) you won't want to miss it. |
