| Do you know of anyone who paid a small fortune for their dog (not just Yorkies) There is a guy in my handling class who bought a GSD. When the instructor saw the dog and found out where he bought her, she said "You could have bought a new car for what you paid". And he agreed with her. His dog is gorgeous, but still! I know of a Yorkie breeder who charges 8K for his dogs. I was wondering if you know of anyone who has spent a ton of money on a puppy and, if so, how much. And why?

| I know a lot of members on the Maltese forum I belong to have spent $3,500 on a Maltese. That's the going rate for a pet quality female from some of the top show breeders. |

| Some would think I am spending a small fortune on my next yorkie but i'm really not spending as much as what some people charge. HOWEVER...the first car I ever bought, I did pay the same amount as what I am spending on my girl BUT...she will be worth every penny!!!!!!!!!

| I did pay a lot and I can tell you why. I knew I wanted a small one with an adorable face. I've seen a lot of yorkies and while they're all cute, I knew exactly what I was picturing in my mind. I didn't want to spend a fortune on vet bills down the line by buying from someone I hadn't heard of and ending up with a lot of health problems. So, I figured pay a lot now for the dog rather than a ton later on unexpectedly. Would I do it again? Um, maybe, since I do consider them family and hope they live 15 years. I know people pay a lot for cars and in my family, dirt bikes, that bring them pleasure but don't last as long as a pet. However, I did feel bad that I spent that amount for a pet. It was way more than I should of and could afford. My husband said I shouldn't feel bad. I don't ever ask for anything(we've been married 17 years this year, high school sweethearts). But I did and still do. We're probably low/mid income level and I'm a homemaker(which IS a very hard job). We do consider our dogs our "girls" and I guess adoption of a human baby would be even more. We have two real sons that are getting bigger every day and I had so much love I needed more things to love! Sometimes you don't always make the "smartest" decision but you do something that you can live with that will make you happy in this lifetime. I will never tell anyone in my family what I paid though.
