My dd's math stopped making sense to me in 5th grade Her math teacher this year (7th grade) told the students that they were NOT allowed to ask their parents to help them, thank goodness

I tell that to my 5th graders also, because it is embarrassing when they do the wrong method
and/or get the wrong answer and they tell me, "But that is what my daddy showed me."

I think that's the best policy, unless of course a parent is a math teacher Her reason was that math terminology has changed so much over the last 20 years or so, we would just confuse them and it would frustrate all of us. I love her teacher, she's SO smart and funny

Well thank goodness she got past that section. I never did understand it thoroughly but guess she finally "kinda" got it. Thanks for all the replies to my plea for help. She is way beyond what any of us here know how to do
