Aren't you perceptive! This may be more than you want to read, but you asked:

It's always a challenge to get out the front door. Rusty tries to bull his way through first, and Jack and Eddie have to be bribed when it's yucky out like today. The trainers say you shouldn't let the dogs through the door first. It's a dominance thing.

So today, if you can picture me, my hands are full with a camera, Eddie's leash and Jack's coat (I have to put it on outside or he hides from me). I'm physically restraining Rusty as I squeeze past him and slip through the front door. I give him the OK to go past me, and a neighbor dog barks at the same time. Rusty lurches forward and practically knocks me off the porch. But I hold firm.

Meanwhile, I keep the spring-loaded door open with my knee and PLEAD to the Yorkies to come through. (Both are unleashed because I don't dare have them and Rusty leashed in close proximity.) They both sit 4 feet away, looking past me to the puddles that used to be snow. I pull out the treats and BEG them to come forward. Eddie tiptoes forward and approaches the door. I'm hopeful.

Just then, the dog across the street barks again. Rusty pulls harder. I fall off the porch. And the screen slams in Eddie's face.

My patience wearing thin, Rusty goes back in the house. Me first, of course, and forfeits his walk for now. But Eddie and Jack are nowhere to be found. I round them up, put on Jack's coat and Eddie's leash and head to the park.

My wife told me that Rusty barked the entire 20 minutes we were gone.

I dropped off the Yorkies and took Rusty on a 20 minute walk. Naturally, my wife said, the Yorkies barked the whole time I was gone.

So I returned, unleashed Rusty and sat down to the computer.

And that's when I wrote my observations that started this thread.
