No Thanksgiving for us this year. After making apple pies, pumpkin pies, sweet potato pie, banana bread, zucchini bread & egg-nog and getting everything packed to go up north to our son and his wife and family, my husband came down with a horrible cold. I think I will go to the Deli to see if they have any turkey dinners. I gave the pies and egg nog to neighbors. I'll freeze the breads. Everyone have a great day with loved ones and take pictures to share of the fur kids and how they spent today. Warm hugs to everyone.

I'm so sorry your hubby is sick!!!!!!! if it makes you feel better, I was planning to wake up this morning and drive to my grandparents' house 1.5 hours from where I live, but when i woke up, the weather was too bad for me to be on the roads. So I'm just going to have to wait until Christmas. Oh well! We'll just do thanksgiving with my hubby's family who lives in town.

The cold comes back tomorrow for the rest of the week and into next week. Stay well and hope hubby is on the mend real soon.

Thanks everyone. I just finished scrubbing down the bedroom and bed with alcohol, changing sheets and all. Tonight he's going to have to sleep in one of the other bedrooms till he's better. Am going today to buy another electric blanket for him. As for the Sweet Potato Pie, here is the recipe from Martha Stewart: 4 medium-size sweet potatoes, cooked until soft and peeled 3 eggs, lightly beaten 1/3 cup sugar 1/4 teaspoon freshly grated nutmeg 3/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon 1/2 teaspoon ground allspice 1/4 teaspoon salt 1 teaspoon grated lemon zest 1 1/2 cups light cream 4 tablespoons (1/2 stick) unsalted butter, melted and cooled 1 unbaked 9-inch Pate Brisee pie shell, chilled Preheat the oven to 400 F. Put the sweet potatoes in a large mixing bowl and mash with a wooden spoon or a potato masher. Set aside. Combine the eggs, sugar, spices, salt, lemon zest, and cream in a small bowl and whisk until combined. Pour this mixture into the sweet potatoes and stir until thoroughly combined. Add the butter and mix well. Pour into the pie crust and bake for 45 to 55 minutes, or until the filling is set and a knife inserted in the center comes out clean. Let cool completely before slicing. PATE BRISEE (basic pie crust) makes two 8 to 10 inch tarts or single crust pies, one 8 to 10 inch double crust pie, twelve 2 1/2 to 3 inch tartlets, or eight 4 1/2 inch tartlets 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour 1 teaspoon salt 1 teaspoon granulated sugar (optional) 1/2 pound (2 sticks) cold unsalted butter, cut into small pieces 1/4 to 1/2 cup ice water Put the flour, salt, and sugar in the bowl of a food processor. Add the pieces of butter and process for approximately 10 seconds, or just until the mixture resembles coarse meal. (To mix by hand, combine the dry ingredients in a large mixing bowl. Using a pastry blender or two table knives, cut in the butter until the mixture resembles coarse meal.) Add ice water, drop by drop, through the feed tube with the machine running, just until the dough holds together without being wet or sticky; do not process more than 30 seconds. Test the dough at this point by squeezing a small amount together. If it is crumbly, add a bit more water. Turn the dough out onto a large piece of plastic wrap. Grasping the ends of the plastic wrap with your hands, press the dough into a flat circle. This makes rolling easier than if the pastry is chilled as a ball. Wrap the dough in the plastic and chill for at least an hour. Of course you could always buy the can of sweet potato pie filling and a frozen pastery shell and do it reall quick, but I quarentee you it will not even come close to being as delicious as home made.
