Havarti Cheese?? What is it? I'm making something that calls for havarti cheese. I can't find it in the grocery store and i'm not quite sure what it is  Does anyone know what a good substitute for this kind of cheese would be? Maybe swiss?? |

Havarti cheese is a very low fat soft white creamy cheese.. so gouda or even a brie would be a good substitute |
Havarti is yummy, thats wat it is! I would agree Brie is a good substitute as long as you remove the outer protective rind. |
I love any kind of cheese, which is why my family calls me mouse. I'd eat any of the above mentioned cheeses. |

We buy Havarti in the deli: they slice it for you. We use it on sandwiches occassionally... It is very mild, and creamy. |
Mmmm, havarti. You should be able to find it with the specialty cheeses. Along with the brie, gouda and montery jack already mentioned, provelone would also work as a substitute. So, whatcha making? |
I think provolone would be a good substitute. I think that Brie, and especially Blue Cheese (gorgonzola) both have a little too much flavor to be compared to havarti. I love havarti, but can't stand the stinkiness of brie. Provolone is pretty mild and soft. |
Thanks ladies! I'll look again! We are having a mid afternoon thanksgiving with my inlaws and their huge family (and we don't usually eat too well there:p ) so I am making a breakfast just for my family that morning. What i'm making is a yummy "quiche" with eggs, asparagus, potatoes, cheese, eggs a little canadian ham and you put it in a pie crust, it is so good! I'm also making a wonderful spinache salad with dried cranberries, kiwi, pears, mandarin oranges & poppy seed dressing (it's sooo good!! and i can't wait to eat it!! LOL) if anyone wants these recipes, let me know. They are really good, although i've never made them myself, they are recipes that i gathered from the year when attending other parties that had these dishes. |
