My husband and i were totally scammed My husband purchased a used truck from a small car lot a few months ago. The tags from dmv never came so he went into the dmv to find out what was going on and they said the company never paid the fees and there is a lien on the truck from the previous owners that was never paid. We called the car lot and the number didn't work, we checked around and found out they filed bankrupt the day after they sold the truck to us. They never paid any fees, so basically they took our money and ran! We called the lien holder to see what they could do to clear the title so we could register it and they said they are the owners of the truck and are coming to get it, with the police if we are uncooperative. What the heck can we do? We are out $8,000! |
omg that is horrible! I don't know what you can do, i never had a car before but i hope it all works out, im sorry. :( |
Quick, hide the truck and call an attorney or the attorney general's office. That's BS. |
 That is horrible.!!!! You need to report these people to the police right away. Before I released the truck I would demand proof of ownership. I called my husband who manages a major car dealership. He said if they own the car there is nothing you can do about it. It really is their property. He said you could hire an attorney but doubts that would help. You need to find out how these guys were operating. Were they a corp? LLP????? I would definately report them to the state's attorney general. I would think that technically they sold you stolen property so you could go after them for that. It is against the law to sell you a car that doesnt have a clean title. I mean they cant sell you a car that THEY don't own. I think this is where the attorney could help but you will be shelling out more money!!! So so sorry this happened to you! I hope there is a light at the end of this nasty tunnel for you soon!!! |
How did you pay for it? If it was paid with a credit card or a loan from a bank, contact them to explain and see if they can do anything. I'm so sorry this happened to you. There are some really awful people in the world :thumbdown Also, you make sure they DO come with the police. Who's to say they are trying to scam you. I'd insist on the police being there, and you should call the police to make sure yourself. |
OMG, I hope you can somehow bring those scammers to justice . . .that sure sucks  |

I think maybe i should file a police report. I don't know what that will do but i'm sure i should. My hubby is going to take off the new tires we just put on it and the camper shell. Theyre going to need a tow truck to take it. |
I'd call an attorney that gives a free consulation and see what your legal rights are. That's horrible. You'll probably have to sue the car dealer even if they went bankrupt you have the right to get your money back. |

We took some money out of our home equity line of credit to get this truck, i am not sure what the bank can do but that is a great idea. thank you |
oh no......Keep us updated on what happens. Good Luck!!! I am sure everything will turn out in the long run. Wish I had some advice to share. |
I would check into the bank, I know if you used a credit card it would be looked after I think in a case like this.. What is this world coming too.. my heart goes out to you and your hubby and I hope you can get this sorted out, also I hope a police report is filed and they catch the scammers... I am soo sorry for you right now... |
I'm so sorry:eek: That sucks:( Hopefully the bank will help. |
Wish I had some useful advice but please keep us posted as to what happens..hopefully this can be worked out in your favour somehow!! |
This is awful! I'm so sorry this happened to you... I don't know that your bank will be able to do anything this late in the game... It also sounds like you did not take the loan out on the truck, but paid it in full and the loan is on your house... Your only real chance is going to be sueing them in civil court if you can find them... I wish you the best of luck! |
I am no attorney but I would think that company that has the lien against it needs to go after the car dealership that sold it to you and not you. What the car dealership did was illegal. The owner of the car lot has alot bigger problems than bankrupcy....he can go to jail for what he did. Is there a way you can contact the owner and try to get your money back. Tell him you are filing a police report against him if her doesn't refund your money. (I would not tell him that the lien company is coming to get the vehicle....you will never get your money back if you tell him that!!!!!) I would definitely call a lawyer. I would not turn the truck over to lien company until you get some legal advise!!! Good luck ....keep us posted!!!!! |
oh, I'm so sorry. I hope you can at the very least get all your money back. Call the attorney general's office. Here in Iowa, they have people who take these kind of calls - its their job & our ag is very on top of things |

Do not give the truck to anyone until you talk to an attorney. You had to have gotten the pick slip for the truck. Can you do a search on the name? I would make a report at the Police Station, and do a search on the guy who sold you the truck. Best of luck to you, I'm sorry this happened.:2hearts2: |
OMG, that is horrible!! I would hide the truck until you can get this straightened out. How was the truck paid for? Do you have a receipt? I would go to the police station and file a report. I would also contact a lawyer to see what your options are. Do you have any names of people at the car lot? In the meantime, keep the truck hidden. If you can't do that, then remove anything new that you may have added to the truck yourselves. Don't let them take it if you have put money into it. I hope you can get this straightened out soon. I'm so sorry this has happened to you!:( |
I'm sorry..I hope it works out for you. I hate scammers :thumbdown Why can't people just be honest and do things the right way  |

We're going to do some research over the next few days but i have a feeling we are totally screwed |

I must have missed it, but my husband told me he just did a report on car dealers doing this. So there is hope. I'll ask him more when he gets home.;) Hang in there! :ghug: |
OH NO Jodie!!! This is horrible!!! I would definitely get with your bank and attorney to see what can be done....AND I would NOT let the truck go until you no more about it. How much is the lien on the truck.....I wonder if this is ALL just part of the scam?? The car lot taking your money and then someone coming to get the truck.....I just wonder if it is all together?? You know?? |
That's horrible. I can't believe how low some people get these days. This is turing out to be a world full of a lot of nasty people. Thank goodness not everyone is nasty like this. Keep your head up, call a local attorney, and see what they can do to help. Were there other cars on the lot? I wonder if other people are in the same position as you? |
I'm sorry to have to tell you this, but legally, this is a civil case and, even if you win, you probably won't see your money again. I'm very sorry. This is beginning to happen more and more and for a reason. This is exactly why I get so upset at our elected officials when they start introducing flag burning bills, gay marriage bills, etc. They need to be introducing bills that will change this type of activity from a criminal offense to a civil offense. |

This is so depressing in more ways than one for us. :( My husband specifically went to a dealer to avoid having any problems! You can't trust anyone these days :( |
I'm so sorry this happened to you. I cannot believe there are people like this in the world... good luck! |

well, after researching online i found two other people that received shady dealings from this dealership. I wish there was some way i could contact the people. One was an old craigslist type ad and another was on a dealer review with no way to email or anything. I reported them to the police dept. Hopefully someone else has reported them too! |
