OH MY GOODNESS!! I can NOT wait until you get a poodle!!! I will live thru you! hee,hee  For a long time, we search for a small black female poodle...that is what my daughter wanted. We never could find one...we found the silver, the apricot, so on, but no small black girls!!! Then, LilyGrace happened and it was love at first site.....so we stopped our search for the black poodle girl! I just LOVE them to pieces!!! They are one of the best dogs EVER!!! Besides Yorkies...OF COURSE!!! My aunt at a tiny little male (black) from the time I could remember...his name was Buttons.....he finally passed from old age (I mean, he was way up there in years) and she has never gotten another dog! He was the best dog! I have several friends with poodles (of all sizes) and I just love each one of them. They seem to be so well mannered and easy to train and so loyal. Good luck with your search and keep us updated! :justahug: |

My friend has one that is very cute, are you planning on getting one? |
I had the night from Hell last night!! The direct tv guys came at 2:30 and didn't leave until 8pm. They carried leaves all over my house, at least they took their shoes off, but I have already spent most of the morning cleaning. UGH!! So my family and I didn't get to eat dinner until almost 8:30, I missed my Weight Watcher meeting and I didn't get to go so the little boy poodle. Then I got home and the direct tv still wasn't working so I spent an hour and a half on the phone with them. I was so stressed and tired I didn't get any sleep. So I am hopeing to go see him today...I will get some pictures. I took some last time with my cell, but they are crappy. Then everyone that knows about poodles can tell me if he looks like he should as a puppy, not being able to see the dad has me confused, as I like to see both parents when I get a puppy if I can. Thanks for letting me vent everyone...and a happy note Good Morning To Everyone!!! |
I grew up with a miniature apricot poodle so naturally that was the first thing I wanted when I moved away from home. I searched and searched for a toy black female but after hearing that a lot of blacks turn silver/gray, I was leary about the color. I was really set on a black one. And then I went to see a litter of RED toys. OMG.... I fell in love. Had never heard of the red color. I wanted a little girl but this one little boy just stole my heart and picked me so I had to take him home. He (Daxton or Dax, for short) was copper penny red until he was much older..... then he kinda faded to a color that was a little darker than apricot. I guess that's their way of "going gray". His normal weight was around 7 pounds until his later years when he had heart problems. He was on heart medication for his last 3 years or so and did just great with it. We lost him about 3.5 years ago at the age of 15. I tell you he was our world..... our "first-born" before the children. The most loyal, laid-back dog there ever was. If you get this pup, you won't regret it. The only word of advise I had was to look between the paw pads for any white or silver because that's what I've been told would mean that a black one will turn silver/gray but I see you've already gotten that info. And no... "toy" is not a "bad word". There are three sizes for poodles.... toy, miniature and standard. Dax was a toy, a miniature is maybe around 20 lbs (can't remember exactly) and a standard is really big. Good luck! |
Love the name Dax Quote:

I think if you find out for sure about the parents' size, you should be able to pin down a good estimated weight. I didn't think poodles were any different in that aspect. You have to take into consideration the parents plus past generations for the size issue. You said you didn't see the dad but did the breeder say what color he is and what his weight is? And of course, ask about any health issues the parents may have. Poodles, same as Yorkies, can have issues with luxating patella and collapsed trachea. Dax had a very mild case of LP in one leg but it very rarely bothered him. He also had a mild case of collapsed trachea but that could have been from us using a collar and leash - this was way before I knew of the dangers of leashes attached to collars. We now use a harness for Tatum. Good luck in your search! Edited to add.... we loved the name Dax too. The one I grew up with was named Max and I wanted to go similar for sentimental reasons. :-) |
Aww, sorry you had such a horrible night. I can't wait to see pictures of this little boy. I know nothing about poodles but reading this thread makes me want one.:p |

Just so everyone understands, Poodles are not classified by their weight. It goes by their height. From the AKC Website: "The Standard Poodle is over 15 inches at the highest point of the shoulders. The Miniature Poodle is 15 inches or under at the highest point of the shoulders, with a minimum height in excess of 10 inches. The Toy Poodle is 10 inches or under at the highest point of the shoulders." Soneal, I am sorry you had a bad night, and hope you get to go see the puppy today! I am anxious for pictures!! |
4 Attachment(s) I got pictures!! I took my son out of school to go with me, he was dyeing to see him. Tell me what everybody thinks, does he look like a toy poodle should look? He has NO white between his pads, so I guess he will be black for sure. He was a ball of energy too, so cute. The girl said I should not try and potty train him to the outside right now, it is cold, to use pee pads. i hate the pads, so should I wait or go ahead and take him out doors? I don't want the little guy to get sick from the cold so any suggestions on that? I trained my last two in spring/summer. |
OMG! what a beautiful puppy. You should definitely get him:thumbup:  :D |
