The claim Denise is making that she will be featured on Animal Planet, Dogs 101 is airing next Sat, November 15th (that's when the Yorshire Terrier show will be on). I'm going to watch and see if she is really featured. I cannot imagine Animal Planet would have someone like her on one of their shows... we'll see. I will be so disgusted if she is on. Kristen |
Country Home Yorkies Hello all, I got my two adorable yorkshire terriers from Denise about four years ago. She was one of the first local breeders I found after I lost my yorkie of twelve years. I guess I was one of the lucky ones. When I initially called her she spent over an hour on the phone with me talking about her pups and what to look for in a yorkie and what to stay away from if I decided not to buy from her. My husband and I went to her home. It is beautiful, as depicted on the web-site, she brought each puppy to us one by one to spend time with them. My puppies were very healthy, clean and well cared for. She said if for any reason I changed my mind about the puppies she would take them back. She even offered to keep them if I travelled and was unable to find care for them. I know several people in my area who have gotten beautiful puppies from her as well. This being said, with all the info in the media about puppy mill dogs, I realize that she is a reseller. Although, I feel guilty for having supported this, I was unaware of these mills at the time. I am grateful that the pups I did get were in a clean environment, a groomer was on site which I personally saw, and the puppies were playing together outside. I guess I am grateful that I was able to give two puppies a nice home and that her puppies were in a nice home instead of a pet store in some wire cage. I love my puppies and feel badly that some have had a negative experience with her. Again, I must have been one of the lucky ones. |
More money than brains? It stuns me over and over again how people fall for this "beautiful, professionally decorated country home" bla bla bla stuff, and they happily pay Denise far more for her UNREGISTERED junk than they'd be willing to pay for a fabulously well bred champion sired puppy raised in humbler surroundings---NOT less clean or safe, just not as pretty a house or fancy an address. Very few really good breeders can afford beautiful country homes, and I never met one who has the luxury of an on-site groomer. A groomer being there should be a huge red flag saying "high volume brokerage operation." A good breeder's money goes into great dogs and shows, and if there's any left we think about nice things for the house. Wake up people, ask for pedigrees, ask to see the puppies' parents, insist on AKC registration---yes, AKC is the only legitimate registry. |
I would like to make it clear that I do not support these re-sellers that may have received puppies from puppy mills. The media has alerted many of us to the inhumane conditions that these dogs are subjected to; at the time I got my puppies, I was unaware of this. I was only trying to say that I got healthy puppies from her. They were clean and appeared well cared for. Denise owned two herself. She also didn't want her dogs to be sold for people to breed them and she was very clear on that, so I think her intent may have been good. It may be slightly unfair to assume that just because a "breeder" lives in a nice home in a nice neighborhood that that breeder is dishonest. That would be making the assumption that all "good honest" breeders do not live in nice houses. My point was, I was just glad by whatever means that I saved two dogs from what ever there destinies may have been, because Denise happened to have them when I was looking. I certainly wouldn't recommend her to any one if there is even the slightest chance that what others have said people have said to them is true. |

a professional website can make these brokers very rich while the dogs are slaves |
I think so many people still don't have any idea about puppy mills, pet stores or breeders. I bought my Yorkie 15 years ago and did not know a thing. We got her from a woman who's yorkie had pups and we had a wonderful 15 years with medical problems here and there, but nothing major until the end (2 months ago she passed from kidney failure). I probably only learned of the puppy mill horrors a couple of years ago. That's why websites like this are so great. I'm doing lots of research for when I decide to get another Yorkie and I will be sure to stay clear of Denise. I feel so bad for people who didn't know and got sick pups from her. |
See glassyorkies.com Go to the breeder listings on Steve Glass' web site for some interesting reading about Denise's selling practices. From what I gather, she is a very attractive and charming sales closer who talks people into paying high prices for puppy mill junk. Her story about selling dogs without papers because she doesn't want them bred is nonsense. Real breeders hold the AKC papers until they receive proof of spay/neuter, then issue "limited" AKC registration. Real breeders also have the parent dogs on site and are proud to produce pedigree information. I have heard that there is a kennel building behind the lovely house. |
here's a link |
denise from sutton... what is her last name? what is the name of her website? there are lots of complaints and witnesses to her schemes..on the link you provided. cant something be done to stop her? she buys entire litters for 500.00 then sells them for thousands each.. with no papers.. and sick with parasites and liver shunt diseases.. imports from canada too.. isnt there a law against this somewhere..karma is gonna take her down. what a liar she is:mad: if she is on animal planet, shouldnt they be made aware of the truth about her sick puppy selling business.. keeping dogs in cages in her basement, and the bait and switch schemes.. you can put lipstick on a pig, but it is still a pig. i hope someone sues her big time and puts her out of business. maybe the IRS should investigate too..:thumbdown |
creepy broker that is denise ronayne country home yorkies in sutton, ma of course a great website.. she sure has the money to spend at the expense of those poor dogs:mad: |
that was strange My east coast connections say Denise put out a lot of hype about her Animal Planet appearance but I didn't see any evidence of her on the Dogs101 show that was supposed to so prominently feature her and/or her dogs. See the comments on a piece in the online Boston Magazine. Not one nice thing said about her, such is her reputation. A legend in her own mind? |
I watched the Dogs 101 episode. I looked for Denise and she was not on it that I could see. Maybe there was a picture of her dogs, but no mention of her or her kennels at all. Maybe Animal Planet had complaints and heard about her reputation?? It really bothered me that she was going to be "featured", so I'm very glad. |
Thank you! Wow! I am happy I found this. She did sound great and she had been interviewed a number of times. She did seem a bit talkative to me but all the reviews and her website and Animal Planet.....wow talk about looks can be deceiving! |
I know that some people wrote to animal planet about her being on their show and sent some information about her and how she is a broker.....so it sounds like maybe Animal Planet looked into it...they replied that they would... |
Not impressed by the "country home" was anyone else taken aback by the formerly living stuffed moose, coyote and other little creatures in her living room? what animal lover surrounds themselves with hunted and then stuffed animals like that. it was very creepy. and she left us alone for about 20 minutes and came back with puppies one by one. they were so adorable, but we got a bad vibe when she said she also showed dachshunds and chihuahuas. very unsettling. Although I dont know this person... someone mentioned that a breeder would never ship a dog. We had our maltese, when I lived at home, shipped to CT from TN. The breeder was excellent and he is a 9 year old healthy dog today! Some good breeders do ship... they just make sure they know who they are shipping to! |
Does anyone know if she really was featured on Animal Planet Dogs 101? |
I don't think so. I watched the episode and she was NOT on it. I've noticed on her website she is still claiming she was featured. |
I don't think she was on either...I did not see the show but my friend did and did not recall her on there...I hope she was not on....I know a few people wrote to the show about her and asking them to look into her further than they had..... |
Good News I am so glad that she was not on animal planet... I have posted about her before... I got suckered in while mourning the loss of a fur baby and eventhough I absolutely adore my Emmie... I am still so angry that I fell for the lie! Emmie has kidney damage that we found when she was young but so far she has not had any issues... She will be 3 this summer... I wish there was more I could do to keep people from falling for Denise's lies!!! |
re Country Home Yorkies (and more breeds) :thumbdown:lightning I too was first intrigued by the ads I saw for this -at first look- lovely place in the "best of Boston Mag." But...then I read all the reviews here and luckily did not pursue her. She seems simply out to make $$ and a very decietful woman at best. All of you that did get dogs from her and are happy w/ your dog...you lucked out..and i'm happy you had a good outcome. however, i have heard just as many horror stories. Also...a VERY reputable breeder and woman who shows dogs warned me about her- the new breeder was not trying at all to sell me solely on herself- just letting me know to aware of her and stay away!!! - and yes...sadly they do sell multiple breeds of dogs- most likely shipped from puppy mills!!! so sad- no one go to her and maybe she will be forced out of business!!! "business" being the operative word! (sorry or the mispellings- spell check does not seem to be working) Sarah and Chloe |
sorry folks, got to vent--- I like to check Steve Glass' web site--glassyorkies.com--every once in a while and always look at the bottom of the Massachusetts breeder listing section for the latest complaints against Country Home Yorkies/Doxies/Chis, whatever else she's peddling. There is a new complaint from a woman who just purchased a 4 year old female Yorkie for $2700 that needed to be spayed and extensive dental work. I'm a very hard working hobby breeder/exhibitor (sometimes wannabe exhibitor) ,trying to do things correctly, but I have to say it dents my spirit to have people begrudge me $1500- $2000 for my champion sired puppies when this woman is pulling in that kind of money for dogs she won't even back up with any kind of paperwork. I'm not usually a jealous, envious person, but this is really bothering me today. ps. decent breeders take very little money for their retiring adult dogs, I take no money at all and am grateful to have lovely homes to send them to. |
Arghhhh!!! Gosh I wish there was a way to shut her down!!! Everytime I get a message that another person replied to this thread it just infuriates me!! I spread the word to everyone I talk to about breeders but it's just not enough!!! |

I emailed her a couple times because I didnt want a puppy , I was looking for a retired breeder or a dog that needed to be rehomed and I was willing to pay whatever fee was associated, I looked high and low and could not find one, I met all the critera too, I have older children a good income I can afford the vet , I am home all day but still I could not find one!! When you really want a puppy and she has so many to offer thats how people get taken in!!! I see people EVERYDAY and they said OMG I have been looking for a yorkie, where did you get her and tell them they want the number, ( she wont be breeding for another year) but I wish I knew a reputable breeder because my friend wants one so badly with OUT the 2000.00 price tag. It seems in Mass that 1800.00 -2500.00 is what is out there! I took Laci with out papers from a SO SO breeder for 950.00 , I am lucky she is healthy with no problems but I probally would have gone to a few more places if they had been available!! If you can PM me your info I have a very good friend who could provide a GREAT life to a puppy, she owns a home, works part time, has no children and is very well off, she just cant seem to find one LOCAL |
jeanm1963 makes a good point--- Denise advertises heavily and caters to the impulse buyers or those who are too busy to look around, either way not good candidates for my puppies. She doesn't appear to be acting illegally, so we probably shouldn't be bothering her. I have to establish a rapport before letting someone leave with my puppy, and my clients appreciate that. My moderate, but not cheap, pricing assures me a good number of people willing to wait to see my puppies. I'm not here to drum up business, got enough, it just creeped me out that she could sell a 4 year old dog at all, let alone at a very high price. I have to take money for my puppies, this is a very expensive hobby, but my adult dogs have been with me for years as pets, it's like selling a family member. eeeeek |

Wow, I should have read this thread over 1 month ago as I just bought my Maddie from Denise. However, (fingers crossed) she's in good health and has a wonderful dispostion and is just the sweetest puppy! I couldn't imagine not having her in our home now! She's been checked out by my vet and all is well (knock on wood). However, admittedly, buying her was bit impulsive as I wanted a puppy that day (without doing further research ) so, I guess, pretty dumb on my part :(. I did get lured in by the website but I did have that voice in my head telling me this women was creepy when I chatted with her on the phone and when I met with her (however I choose to ignore it)! She definitely is a saleswomen through and through. Nevertheless, the minute Maddie jumped into my lap, I was hooked. What everyone said (on this thread) is very accurate in how she goes about the whole process. She did bring out 3 female puppies for showing and took a long time in doing so.....The first she brought out, did look a bit sickly to me as I recall. She does carry on about the puppies not being registered giving her orchestrated speach as everyone on her has talked about. For me, I guess it didn't matter but I truly understand how this is important. I did sign an Agreement that includes a 1 year warranty period (from the date of birth). She does overcharge!! Maddie was $3,000k  However, my husband and I make a good living so this for us wasn't that big of deal. We love Maddie and we're so glad she came into our lives....be it by way of reseller who makes it off like she's a breeder . I'm saddened that this women does this, however, I do take responsibility for not doing my homework and being too impulsive. I read this thread last night and went and gave Maddie extra hugs & kisses as I truly don't know what she went through. This saddens me the most! My poor baby!! |
more shock and awe--- Well, it is very lucky indeed for the dogs that most people do not make quite such a good living that dropping $3000 on an impulsive purchase is not a big deal. Impulse buyers can't get my dogs because I worry if they will discard the dog just as easily when they tire of it. |
Dear MagicGenie, Well, that was blanketstatement if ever I've heard one. Your certainly entitled to your opinion, as am I...and I'm sure since you're in the business you've seen/heard of your fair share. Thankfully, I have the means to hire a nanny for Maddie, if the event I tire so easily of her :). |
I have been reading the threads and I am so sick to my stomach. I guess I fell into the trap as well. I bought my baby girl Riley in December and she came home with me in January. I would agree with the other postings regarding Denise and her smooth talking ways. It all clicks now...not getting AKC papers and her getting angry when I pressed her on this issue, saying that she wouldn't let me take the puppy if I had such a "issue" with it. Also, she would have me sit for hours in her living room while she dissappeared to get the puppies one by one for me to look at, saying that her husband liked to have the puppies with him. There was also an incident where I had picked out the girl I wanted then went back to pick her up and she brought down 2 girls and told me that I would have to pick again bc she couldn't remember bc the puppies change in appearance so much week to week!! She then almost didn't let me take the puppy I had paid in full for in December bc she said another woman had put a deposit down after me and she needed to get a chance to look at both females in the litter. She then asked me if I had a camera phone and had been taking pix of the the puppy I wanted...I said yes bc I thought it was odd she was asking, and figured she was probably going to switch puppies on me. Another thing she does is that she gives her own injections to the pups instead of a vet, she said she was trained appropriately but now I wonder if she even gave the vaccinations!! Looking back now, I see all the red flags and am so mad at myself!! My puppy unfortunately had a parasitic infection, coccidia, which she actually had no symptoms of and her stools have been bug-free since. I had left several messages with Denise to inform her of the infection but she never returned my calls! But now I am freaking out about the liver shunt disease. Riley is known to easily vomit, also she salivates like crazy; and I had actually had her urine checked bc I noted that she drinks water like crazy and pees like crazy!! I am going to the vet tomorrow!! I am utterly disgusted with Denise and feel very betrayed!! |
