OMG>...It was breaking my heart watching him. I would too think its some kind of a seizure. I'm glad you got it on film...You are not crazy, If you ask me the vet who said you were over reacting is the crazy. I'm glad you are talking to another vet. I sure hope you find out what is wrong. I'm sure it was very hard on you filming that but you did the right thing so you can show them. My heart is breaking for you beacause I know you are sick with worry. If you need to talk, I'm here. I'll be praying for the both of you. May God Take this Away from Murphy!!! |
Caren! Oh my goodness! I had NO IDEA Murphy was experiencing this! I am seriously in tears after having watched those videos! POOR BABY!!!!!!!!! You are absolutely NOT over-reacting!!!!!!!!! I'm am completely here for you and I am SURE you're new vet will get to the bottom of this. Since I've never had any experience with seizures, the one and only advice I have is for you to look at this website. It is a vet who specializes in allergic and epileptic dogs and controlling those things with diet. It helped TREMENDOUSLY with Hobbs' allergies and maybe a diet change will help Murphy's seizures, too (if that is what he's experiencing). It's worth a shot anyway! It's alot of info to read through but if he's having seizures, this diet change may make all the difference in the world. Who knows...he may not even need medication!!!!!!! Here is the site: http://dogtorj.tripod.com/id2.html |
That was so hard to watch and I pray the new vet can ease alittle insight to what is causing this. I would try to find a vet who knows about neurology issues, it appears to be affecting the control of his legs. Whatever it is I pray you find an answer and can control it for him with medicine. I wish you the best in your search hun!!! You are not over reacting this looks exactly like a seizure, cause it is one IMO. |
I am so sorry that Murphy, and you are going through this. How long do these last? Thumbs up for the video...I wish I had done that with Winston, but fortunately I was able to get him to the vet during an episode. She initially thought it was heat stroke...but he was inside in air conditioning. His blood sugar was dangerously low...in the 20's. We are still trying to figure out which comes first the seizure or the hypoglycemia. We took him for a 2nd opinion, the new vet put him back on puppy food, 4 times daily. He has not had another episode since June23rd. I will keep your baby in my thoughts and prayers...please do keep us updated, I am very curious as to what your vet thinks. Winston started these at the age of 2...he was not tiny he weighed about 7.5 pounds, and he has always eaten well, never had low blood sugar as a puppy. This is what brought me to YorkieTalk...looking for answers...Winston is now 3 years old and weighs 7.8 pounds. So obviously he's eating well. I hope to never see this happen to him, or your Murphy again. I agree they are frightening...but NutriCal always brings him out of it. Good luck, best wishes...get well little Murphy guy!!! |
GREAT job with the videos. My Shi Tzu Reggie has seizures. He always knows when he's going to have one and comes and tells me so I can hold him. He is so scared. I don't know if this makes you feel better or worse, but his are actually worse than these two because his back arches in a way that shouldn't be possible. He also drools and/or spits up and his eyes roll back. The first time, I called the vet crying. I thought he was dying. The vet was so nice and told me that it's way worse on us than it is the dogs. My vet said that a lot of dogs do have seizures but they are mild or when we're not home so often go unnoticed. He chose NOT to put Reggie on medication because Reggie's do not occur often enough for the additional problems that come with the medication. Reggie sometimes has several over a few days and then will go a couple months with none. He said that until they are not stopping, coming one after another, he did not want to medicate until it was absolutely necessary. Reggie does fine after, but he's very tired. The thing that breaks my heart, though, is that I'm sure he has them when he's home alone, and he must be so scared. I hope you get a comforting answer. Seizures aren't fun, but if everything else is ruled out, they are not necessarily lifethreatening. Good Luck!! |
Your videos of darling little Murphy also brought me to tears. Poor little sweetheart...and poor you. I know how worried and filled with fear you must be and my heart breaks for you and Murphy. Shame on that vet that told you you were overreacting. I wish you could take Murphy to my vet. He would listen to your concerns and would give it his all to figure out what is is and what can be done to prevent it. I'll be praying for you and your precious Murphy. I'm sure the new vet will have much more empathy than that other one. *HUG* |
Poor little Murphy. It looks like some type of seizure to me too. I hope the new vet will be able to help him |
Poor little guy:cry: certainly looks like he needs some type of medication then he will be fine. We all trust someone when an emergency arises.....sometimes that person just is not right. But it happenes to all of us over something. Even though your old vet IS a big JERK don't blame yourself. Hope Murphy get over this soon. Good luck Saturday...fingers and paws crossed:getwell: Tina |

:( :( I could only watch the first video as I cried watching him struggle. :( :( I just couldn't watch the second video (sorry). It must have been hard for you to video it, but great that you have a record now to show a vet........a good one..........that will give him help. Hope it is a simple solution. |
Caren that was a hard video to watch. Poor Murphy struggling so. Your old vet is heartless. I am so glad your going to a new vet. Video in hand also. I have no idea what could be wrong with your baby but finger's crossed it can be worked out with meds. Murphy is precious. I would be scared out of my mind as well. You have every right to be furious. Don't forget to call the old vet with the new diagnosis. He should be ashamed of himself. |
I forgot to add that you might want to start keeping a record/journal of his seizures. Include the date, time, duration, what was happening right before, any routine changes, diet changes, etc... This is one of the things my son's neurologist requested. |

Thanks....I hated to tape it but I just need proof and something to help a better diagnosis. I actually stopped when it started to get worse because I just HAD to hold him. Thanks you for your prayers! |

Thanks for the link Rebecca...you know I spoke to Murphy's breeder for a LONG time last night - bless her heart she was trying to calm me down. She too talked about Diet being a factor and possibly a way to help him. She is going with me to the Vet on Saturday so hopefully we can get him some help finally! Thansk again for your prayers and support! |
