The purpose of the clicker is to mark the behavior you want them to learn such as sitting, laying down, etc. As soon as they do the behavior you want you click and treat. Check out Karen Pryor's clicker training site - you can learn a lot from her.

Well funny Izzy was clicker trained within two weeks of me getting her. As time goes on and you know that your doggie knows the behavior you phase out the clicker and the treat. Izzy does not need them anymore for her to sit, lay down, etc. But it was so funny in training Cosmo she knew exactly what I was going to do as soon as she saw me get Cosmo's clicker and treat bag...she was all over it..hehehe.

I have hubby take Izzy outside or keep her busy somewhere else when training but lately I just have her on the other side of me when training her brother. She just does her thing next to me and she gets treated as well for doing the same behavior. They are smarter than we think.

Cyndi, I am a BIG fan of Clicker training too. I started with AprilLove then Nappy and Rozi. It is amazing how the clicker marks the behavior. I don't know that I would use any other way now. I LOVE it!!!

MaryKay it's amazing how quickly they catch on too. I can actually see Cosmo's wheels turning in his head. It's only the 2nd week of puppy training in our class and we are doing the cones with target training and our trainer was amazed on how fast Cosmo caught on..he is catching on way faster than Izzy did. Those Biewers are super smart!!

Hahaha now that I have two furbutts I can take pics of the zoomies..they are hilarious and I think they are going to pass out one of these days.
