The PetSmart in our area had a great trainer. She went through the basics in Beginner's class and then because there was just myself and one other lady, she pretty much let us decide what we wanted to learn in Intermediate and Advanced. So we went on-line and got a copy of the Good Citizenship Certification test and brought it to class with us. And that's what we worked on for those two classes. We then got in touch with the Delta Society (Pet Partners) and found a preparation class in Galvestion that we just completed last night. There is also a Home Study Course that you can order from Delta that they must complete before their evaluation. Sammie's evaluation is scheduled for next month.

The reason I went with the Delta Society is because they are the only organization that I'm aware of that can visit the Shriner Burn Hospital in TX. They also have access to MD Anderson and Texas Children's.

You can see their website at www.deltasociety.org and see if they have groups in your area.

Good luck and please keep us posted, as there are several YTr's doing the same thing. :D

Congrats!! I just talked to our local Delta Org representative and I'll be getting Izzy involved as well but we have to wait until she is one year old (12/29). So in the meantime they told me to attend one of their testing days to see how the animals are tested which should be very interesting. That's on 9/29 - based on what I see - we'll get the registration packet and all from Delta. I'm so excited since the hospital that we would go to is about 5 minutes from my house and they don't have a Yorkie in the program yet and the woman on the phone was so excited to hear that I have one. :D Seeing your post made me want to do this even more...thanks!

That's wonderful your pups are therapy dogs. You must feel so good knowing
how they bring joy to other's. Congratulations.

If there's enough of us on YT doing this - you can PM admin and ask them to set up a new forum called Therapy Forum or Delta Org Therapy, or something like that.

What a great idea! Sounds like Sammie is really well trained...much more than my girls. You will enjoy it so much!

I'm so glad to know that others here are getting certified. Abbie is certified through Therapy Dogs International. We haven't been told we can't go anywhere yet but so far it's been assisted living and nursing homes. We go to a Cancer Support Group for the first time at the end of this month.

Thanks for posting these pictures. That is a beautiful thing your doing with your furbabies!!! These little guys bring such happiness and it is an absolute joy to see the happiness on the faces of all who get to spend time with them!!!
