Oh no! Porcupine! 4 Attachment(s) Just when we thought we were safe from winter moose foraging in our backyard, today there was a porcupine on top of the bird house! It wasn't moving much, so I'm not positive Eddie knew what it was. But he definitely barked like crazy when I held him up to it and said "porcupine." Jack, of course, can't see that far, so he could care less. I've never seen a porcupine in the city, least of all the backyard, so I'm not real happy about it. Hopefully, he won't hang out here. He did make for some good pictures, though! |
Lol , soon you'll have to start a zoo . |
I've never seen one till now! They look kinda cute... are they harmless? |
He's so cute!!!! You have a regular "Omaha's Wild Kingdom" going on in your back yard! I thought porcupines were a lot bigger... Like basset hound big. Better check the yard before you let the boys out! |
Mike! What great pics.... I tell you what, you need to write a children's book series called Adventures with Eddie and Jack and illustrate them with some of your fantastic pics. You will be even more famous than you already are.... NO JOKE! I worked in an elementary school library for 13 years and ..... you have the material to make best sellers! |

As for whether they are harmless or not, no. They are not harmless. Check out this pit bull after an encounter with a porky. |

Mike, they WOULD buy a book about someone else's dog. Believe me they would. We had a traveling author with his dog visit our school. Of course Alaska Mike and crew would be totally awesome. Just think of the real life stories you could share. I'll be looking forward to you visiting Rome in the near future. |

When dogs go up and try to bite it, the quills go into their soft skin and don't come out. A friend's dogs used to tangle with them all the time, and she had to take the dogs to the vet to get them removed. |

I hope nothing happens to Jack and Eddie and the Pocupine stays high up! :( BTW, I like your new avatar... it's very artistic! :) |

First moose, now porcupines. What's next?:lol tears |
Wow that is amazing. And start writing it will be a bestseller. When you come to Chicago to be on Oprah's book club I can get Jack and Eddie's pawtagraphs! |
Moose, hawks and porcupines!!! What next?!! Definitely the makings of a "Eddie and Jack's Adventures in Alaska" book. |
Dog books are extremely popular! Pet lovers love the stories and photos! That's a very good idea, and I know it would sell. Like the Marley book, and he's even written a childrens' series of picture books about Marley's explotes. You have great stories, adventures, and pictures. . . definate buy/read! Finding a publisher wouldn't be difficult at all. Great looking porcupine. That poor dog, my gosh, I didn't realize how dangerous those quills could be. |
I've never been around one but i've heard how they stick those quills out and you cant hardly get them out. that one looked like he/she had a lots of quills too. I hope he dont even hang around there. Better keep and eye out before Eddie and Jack run out and up to it. ouch. |
aww, that poor pitt bull! how ugly!! Is it true that porky needles keep going into your skin farther and father? We one time had a porky in our shed. never seen one live before then. Hopefully he never meets with Jack or Eddie, or you may be visiting the vet!! |

I suppose you haven't heard of : Marley and Me Messages From Jamie Little Dog & Duncan Foxy's Tale Bandit The Blessing Of The Animals I Am Shadow Shep: Our Most Loyal Dog Hachiko The Diary Of Jinky The Bravest Dog Ever The Dogs Who Grew Me Java With A Little Faith Angel Dogs Dogs...Made Easy (my own two Yorkies, Zada and Azrael are in this book) For The Love Of A Dog I think the best selling books ARE ones in which are true stories, so get out your pen and pad and start writing. :D |
WOW, those are amazing pics!! Be careful :) |
I used to have a husky who would tangle with the porcupines every so often but he'd only wind up with a half dozen or a dozen quills. They are incredibly hard to pull out. We tried once - they're almost like having a hook stuck in you. We wound up taking him to the vet to have them removed. From what I understand they will actually work the way in over time and that's when they can really do some damage. My husky didn't seem to learn either - got hit several different times. Our other dogs never had a problem with them. They are kinda cute though - the porcupines. |
WOW neat and scary too. We have one at the Zoo. But If I walked out and saw that I would freak! |
