We hate springtime! 3 Attachment(s) Summer cannot arrive soon enough. My apologies for the length, but I need empathy, lol. (The pics are not from today) I decided that today would be my day to scoop the poop during my walk with Eddie and Jack to the local park, so I brought a garbage bag and a scooper. Since the snow is soft and deep, I wore snowshoes. On my way down there, a couple neighbor kids, 5 and 4, decided they wanted to join us as they often do. No problem, I thought. Once we got there, the snow was particularly punchy and soft. The Yorkies and the kids were miserable in the slushy stuff. About 100 yards into the park, Eddie had had enough. He turned around and headed home, much to my dismay. I couldn't leave the kids, so I decided to let Eddie fend for himself on our relatively isolated street while I found a shortcut to try to head him off. Hauling what was now probably 15 pounds of dog doo/snow, I ran into a soggy mess. Even on my snowshoes, I sank in up to my knees and fell to my side a couple times. The kids, meanwhile, were starting to panic and whimper. The water was spilling over their rubber boots. I finally decided to pick the kids up one by one and carry them to solid ground. That worked just fine until Jack decided he didn't like being so far away from me. With a kid in one arm, a bag of poop and scooper in the other, I watched Jack dive off a ledge of snow into what for him was neck-deep slush, soaking his fleece coat and booties. I still couldn't drop the kids, so I sloshed my way to firmer ground and flung the 4-year-old. I then scooped a now-shivering Jack out of the pool of ice and grabbed the 5-year-old too. We made our way toward home and found Eddie giving us a bewildered look as he waited patiently at the edge of the park. I hope the neighbors weren't watching, because the thought of a 50-year-old with two Yorkies and two kids in tow fighting for his very life in a city park not 100 yards from his front door is embarrassingly comical even to me. Summer can't arrive soon enough. |
it sounds positively miserable!!! Poor Jack, poor Eddie and poor Mike!!! |
UGhhhhh that does sound horrible - I am so sorry. I am wishing you, Jack and Eddie bright sunny skies from Florida! Murphy and Mia send lots of warm hugs and kisses to Eddie and Jack. Poor babies! |
Thanks for the sympathy, lol. I don't really deserve it. It's not as though we were in the wilderness or anything. We were 5 minutes away from a hot shower! |
We're in Canada and while we don't have a lot of yucky slushy mess right now, we usually do at this time so I totally know what you mean. We've still got some now, though! Ugh I hate it too! Chloe's not allowed outside in the slush. She's too small & even in her coat & sweater shivers like crazy. She's an inside-only dog until summer *sigh* |
ahh Mike that sucks. I'm glad we're done with snow (hopefully) over here! I hope summer comes soon for you guys! btw - I adore your avi. |
Oh My Gosh - BIIIIIIIIIIIIG HUUUUUUUUUUUUGS! I'm sure you didn't think it was funny at the time but to read your story, it is pretty funny. I could just picture that. We've been lucky with snow here in Indiana - Don't envy the weather there but I'll bet you've got more comfortable summers! ;) Thanks for sharing! |
I'm sorry that the weather is so yucky, In our summertime when its 110+ I will be wishing for some of that |
It really has been a Monday for me and your last paragraph made me laugh - thank you for that. :) Now that I'm done laughing, you have my empathy. |
OH no! :( It sounds absolutely dreadful! *Sending you a huge cup of tea and sympathy now*;) I'll go to the store tomorrow and see if I can find some sunshine for sale and then I'll box it up and mail it to you! :D Hope it warms up there soon enough! |
Thanks, everyone. Yes, you have my permission to laugh out loud. I would have paid money to see the show if it happened to neighbor instead of me! I told the story to a friend and her comment was -- why the heck didn't I drop the 15-pound bag of poo??? LOL. NOW she tells me! |
Awww... I can sympathize. There's nothing worse than the slushy mess at the end of the season. There's huge snow puddles at the end of every street and you just can't walk anywhere without getting splattered with the wet stuff. Soon it will all be over, so hang on! Hugs to Jack and Eddie from Snickers and Baxter. :aimeeyork |
Sounds miserable. |
"flung the 4-year-old." How far did you "flung the kid"? As usual, it was enjoyable to read your visual "a day in the life of Mike, Eddie and Jack" plus the neighbor kids. Ever try a "hot toddy" to warm up and buy some tulips...spring is here in Seattle. Oops! That probably hurts, doesn't it? 70 degrees on Friday and Saturday. Flip-flops, no coats but cooler today. Can just see you with that huge bag of poop. Too funny! |
YUK! I couldn't handle it! Time to move South!!!! |

I am still laughing. |
YUUUUKKKKK.... DEFINATELY sounds miserable to me. I HATE HATE HATE snow!! As far as I am concerned we got too much snow here in Oklahoma this year. Glad spring is here. Be careful in the "quick snow" until it is gone. :D |
:cup: :ip: :roses: :wrose: :daisy: :island2: :martini: :beermug: :coffee44: Comfort to Mike & :aimeeyork Hugs to Eddie and Jack |
I sympathize. But I've always admired how you get outdoors with Eddie and Jack in spite of the weather. I admit, I'd probably turn into a hermit during the winter and spring months if I lived in Alaska. Also, I'll confess I was laughing by the end of your story, but I still sympathize through the tears of laughter. . . really, lol. . . :lol tears :lol tears :lol tears |
First of all just having to put on snowshoes would have been enough for me to stay in. My hat is off to you - when we get about 12" of snow in IL I have every excuse not to go out the front door. You write with such visual effect - I could actually see you hauling a bag full of poop, childrens boots running over with water and snow and dogs soaked and miserable. |
I don't blame you at all ... I hate spring too! spring thaw is worse sometimes than winter itself. this is one of the reasons that I moved south. by the way.......... have you ever thought about writing a book about your adventures? |
PS How long did it take for the boys to become used to their boots because they are so agile in the snow? |

And SophieRose, it took about two weeks of daily use for them to tolerate them. Once they stopped fighting me, they forgot they had them on. |

Eddie proves once again what Evil Wee's known all along that He's one smart dog! I love it when they look at you like you're crazy cos you haven't figured out what they already know. I'm pretty sure that kiddie flinging is a sport in the highland games - maybe you could get into competitive kiddie tossing - an excellent way to wile away the hours. |
I know it wasn't funny at the time, but after dealing with auditors all day yesterday and looking forward:cool: to it again today, I cracked up. All I could think of was how smart Eddie was! Those kids now have an official adventure to talk about! Thank God the moose didn't put in an appearance:) |
I am never complaining about mud season again. |
omg poor jack stuck in a slush puddle. i could just see it too because that would be morgan. sloshing around not being able to get out. I love that eddie was just like 'whatever guys im going home'. i agree with your neighbor, why didn't you drop the bag of poop? LOL :D |
Sorry, but that was so funny. I give you kuddos for not dropping the kid as I would probabluy have done!!!! That would definatley been a You Tube clip of the week if caught on film!!! |
