Finally, Positive reaction to a larger yorkie
 

I was in the pet store yesterday with Buddy and a lady was
behind me in line. Believe it or not she actually recognized him
as a Yorkie and loved his size.:D :D :D She asked why he was
so big, which I really could not really answer and then she said
his size would be great for a family with children. I finally
received a positive comment regarding his size. She also loved
his silky coat and his handsome face. I walked out of the store
on cloud 9:p

He is so handsome. I am glad someone had the good taste to tell you!!! My first Yorkie was 18 lbs floppy ears and wavy short coat and AKC. He had quite a personality and my father talks about him to this day and we had him from 1970 to 1983.

Aw, Buddy! Hooray for you!! You are SUCH a sweetie! I'm glad you had a nice day at the petstore! You are SUCH a cutie!!

Your Buddy is just beautiful. I remember what happened with you guys a couple of weeks ago. Just remember, stupid people make stupid comments. My sister has a large Yorkie, and he is our cuddle muffin:) At least I can smush/hug him without fearing I'll crush him;)

I think Buddy is beautiful I always love to look at the avatars and yours always catches my eye. Big or small or even in between Yorkies are all loved in my eyes:)

When I take my two out together no one ever pays a mind to Kodi who is only 6 pounds. They all ooooh and awww over Daisy who is 5 pounds. I feel bad so I take them seperate alot so they both get love.

How could you not go nuts over a 6lb yorkie? People are strange for sure.
It does seem like the smaller the cuter in some folks eyes. The reaction
I usually get is: Is that a real Yorkie? I have said once, he's breathing
so I guess that makes him real:D I just walked away and did'nt wait
for an answer. It was really nice to get a sweet comment on Bud for
a change.

I have the Same problem Lori does, since I've had Jewelina every oogles over here because she is super tiny and Jaden gets attention too but not the same amount that he used to and he's barely even 4 pounds and very petite!! In real life you'd guess he'd be right at 3 pounds because his bones are really petite. Because she's so small and petite though, she looks even smaller than she is and I guess she makes him look "big" :rolleyes: It makes me sad sometimes though, that all people see is size anymore. All I ever hear when I take Jaden and Jewelina out is T-cup this and T-cup that and where did you get those T-cup yorkies, I want one really small like that :rolleyes: It gets so annoying after a while! It's too bad people can't see ALL yorkies for the loving wonderful creatures that they are!

At last, there is someone who knows what they are talking about! :D And I am so happy for you and you must be beaming! :D The only person who will not complain that I have a big yorkie is the boss of the pet supply and grooming store near my house. She actually loves loves loves Siu Pao and complimented on his size...everytime I go there I just feel so happy and buys more stuffs :D

they ignore a 4lb dog when there is also a 3lb around.

I don't usually post here as I'm somewhat new and just getting started but your post caught my eye. My Cooper is 11lbs with floppy ears. He is a Yorkie thru and thru. The reality is that the Yorkie was not as tiny as they are these days and even though my Coopers sister and brothers were tiny at 3-5lbs. he ended up bigger. I will tell you, I personally prefer it for pratical reasons. Don't get me wrong, I adore the little ones and am always tempted to add to my gang with a tiny, but I also work and when I had my smaller baby 4lbs (she lives w/ my mom now) it was so hard to get the potty thing under control etc. My Cooper is fully potty trained, and even though he may not get the looks/attention that an adorable tiny will get, he is the absolute best dog I've ever had, we have a great bond and I adore him. Now, I've also just added a Biewer to my home recently as well he is 7lbs and will probably top out at 8-9lbs. He is doing great on potty and loves to rough house w/ Cooper and my Golden. I think I would not get a tiny baby until I can go either Part Time or be home all day..Anyways, as all Yorkies are, your Buddy is beautiful!!

Yes, the larger ones sometimes don't get the attention they so
deserve but we as owners know just how special they are.
Your Cooper sounds very much like my Buddy. I do believe the
larger ones are easier to housebreak. Maybe because they have
larger bladders to begin with. Who knows? Just wanted to welcome
you and enjoy this site. Everything in one place:D

Aw, you are so sweet Carol. I know Jaden would appreciate you sticking up for him! I love both of my babies regardless of their size, I just wish people could see past how small they are and see what loving great dogs BOTH of them are!

I am so glad they recognized Buddy and gave him compliments. He is such a cutie! It's true nowadays all people care about is size. The other day I took London downtown and it was blazing hot so I took her out of her carrier. This lady walking by me said "OMG SOOO TINY!!! CONGRATULATIONS for such a tiny baby" I was like why would I get congratulated for having such a small dog? lol But they're not always like that. Everyone that sees Teddy (8lbs) go crazy over him. He is so friendly and wants to say hi to everyone he sees and stands on his 2 feet so I guess ppl think that's cute. But they do not care about his size, a lot of them don't even know what a yorkie is. So there are always some ppl that just care about the tiny ones and then good ppl that love the bigger ones too.

I'm actually sad you've never had comments like that...I always compliment people on their dogs ....when a dog has a sparkle in their eyes, you just know they're special ....and Archie has that sparkle.

For people to not pay attention to a yorkie that's on the larger side blows me away. Big and small they're full of personality and spunk. The size thing is an obsession these days:(

I went through the same thing w/Bentley my yorkie poo. In the beginning he got all the attention from people, then I added in Emma who weighed about 2.5 lbs when I got her *she's 7 now* and people would always ignore Bentley and only comment on Emma. He's only 10 lbs! It bothered me so much =p

I love that someone reconized your beautiful boy! I, too, have a large Yorkie. We were at Petsmart once when he was younger and had a very rude woman approach us just to stare at Harley. She stopped and actually, wrinkled her nose like she was sickened by him and said, "Is THAT a Yorkie?!" We smiled and politely told her that yes indeed he is. She continued to stare and then, get this, told us, "Ewwww, MY Yorkie is beautiful and is only 4lbs.!" Then she strolled off. We were so stunned that we just stood there, speachless and staring at each other. We were, and still are, very proud of our sweet guy! Mind you, we had no children at that time and he was our baby completely. We were soooooooooo hurt and then irritated when it actually sank in. :(

My Tini is 10 lbs of beauty. She was from a litter of 4 that ranged in adult sizes of 4 to 14 lbs. Anyone who would criticise her size isn't worth the reply. Unfortunately not everyone is familiar with the history of this breed.

I reallly am sadened that the larger yorkies don't get the compliments they deserve. They are as loving,sweet and beautiful as any other yorkie out there. Each dog is special in it's own way and it's so sad that people treat people and their pets this way! :( :( :( I have two tiny ones, a 4 pound boy and a 1 pound 11 ounce girl and I always compliment yorkies, big and small, because I think all dogs deserve a special pat on the head and a little treat to make their day. I was actually in Petsmart once and I had Jaden out with me, Jewelina was in her bag and a lady came over gushing over Jaden and wanting to see him and reapeatedly saying how small he was and how nice that was then she asked if I had any others and I say yes, I had a little girl too, and opened my bag to show her and she shrieked "Oh my, she's even TINIER how wonderful!!" she went on to tell me that she had a yorkie too but not a "good one" like either of mine. She said hers was 9 pounds and 1 years old but when she bought him she thought he'd be a T-cup and she was looking for a new one and could I reccomend my breeder :mad: :mad: :mad: I told her that if she felt a 9 pound yorkie wasn't a good one she probably shouldn't own any yorkie regardless of size and I walked off. I had tears in my eyes just thinking about that poor dog and how he must feel if his owner feels free enough to talk to a stranger about him like that :( What is wrong with people these days :confused:

My Tootie is 16 lbs of WONDERFUL! He is the bestest little boy in the world! I get comments, mostly those freaking because he is so big but I wouldnt trade him for the world! When I have them out together, Hope gets the ooo's and ahhhh's but Tootie always gets the WOW! I havent really ever had tru negative, just surprise!

i love all yorkies.. no matter how small or how big.. whenever i see a yorkie i always STOP what im doing and go AWWWW A YORKIE!!!! hahaha once at my last job i was helping a customer then i saw a yorkie walk by outside i was like OMG A YORKIE!!!! everyone stopped and stared at me like im crazy :p

It's really wonderful news that there ARE people who appreciate big yorkies!
Yorkies big or small are just adorable and full of spirit dogs!
Not just yorkies, I love to see dogs of different breeds and sizes.
I go gaga over Huskies and Goldies as well.

I've a silky and three yorkies.
Shadi who is a silky was often mistaken for a yorkie when she was young.
We stopped explaining to others she is actually a silky when another one comments, oh she's a yorkie??? LOL

Tintin who weighs 8.8pounds is a big yorkie but to me he's my precious baby.
We had a very nasty lady before, who asked : ' Is that a yorkie?' And we answered yes. She was shaking her head and staring at Tintin. SO RUDE. later, she said, NO, that is not a pure yorkie, it is a mized for sure. My yorkie is only this tiny. She then proceeds to show me how TINY her yorkie is.
*Roll my eyes* She has that smirk on her face that i felt like slapping her!!!

Then we had Junior, 4.8 pounds pedigree yorkshire (we just love yorkshires so much that we cannot stop at 1!) We have lots of people who recognise him as a yorkie but there is this incident where a lady asked:.' oh, what a cute silky.' I was like, he is a yorkie. And she said, 'oh, that is a BIG yorkie you have there. BIG, 4.8 pounds big??????? :confused:

We currently had a lil girl Oreo. Have not brought her out yet so will let you guys know if there are any stories (good and bad) to u'all.

Sorry for the long winded post. But I totally feel what the rest of the members are going through. :thumbup:

Awwww, Buddy, you are a most handsome little guy! I'll bet in a "Protect your Mommy" competition, you'd win - paws down;) . Face it, everything is cuter when it's "tiny". Maybe 'cause you can't see any imperfections as well, or maybe 'cause it's easier to hold, who knows. But, tiny doesn't always make for a great personality, more trust or loyalty, or a healthier baby. People can be so stupid! Would they go up to someone and say "My goodness, is that a real skinbaby? He's so big!"? Don't pay any attention to the idiots in the world, Buddy - just like people: It's what's on the inside that counts. Besides, "Bigger is Better" :) . All the more to hug and love!

I am glad Buddy got a good comment. He is such a cutie
