Everyone, Meet Bernie!!!! 2 Attachment(s) Who's Bernie? Attachment 88282 He's a sweet little rescue boy who came to live with us last night. (We're his new FOREVER home). Attachment 88283 The above pics are from his foster family, I'll post more when I don't have two yorkies :) :) clamouring to go for a walk. But,here's his story (as posted by the rescue): Crack! Whimper! Silence... What was that dirty bundle on the side of the road? Skunk? Ground hog? No, a dead dog... ah, how sad... No wait, it moved. His head moved ever so slightly. He's alive! Get him in the patrol car. Get him to the closest vet. Severe injuries... where's the owner? No one calls about him, no one comes to find him. He lays in a cage, waiting for whatever comes next. Finally, THEY call. "Put him down," they say. They don't want him. They won't pay for any of it. "Destroy him." Poor Burnie. Just a puppy, running loose, unwanted, alone. The vet won't proceed. There is no alternative. A woman, an animal control officer steps in. She takes the time to stroke him. She looks into his eyes and sees the hope, still there, along with the pain. "Give me a chance, please, a chance. I'm just a baby." She blinks away tears and picks up her cell phone. One call later and Burnie's fate is sealed. He is coming into rescue. He's been given a second chance. Now things start happening rapidly. Rescue races to pick up Burnie and rushes him to urgent medical care. X-rays show the worst. Medication for pain and the uncertain prognosis are provided. Surgery is his only hope and even then... Did we really have a choice? Could we have said "No!"???? The operation was very expensive - the vet's guess was $3500. Already we had spent almost $1000. No choice. Beautiful Burnie needed his chance. He'd been abandoned by everyone who SHOULD have helped him. If you would like to adopt Burnie, please fill out an application. He has the kindest big brown eyes... he's just a puppy... He is a great little guy. Beautiful Burnie is a special dog, very special. But he's alive, recovering, and begging to be allowed to play. If you are prepared to work with him, you may be the light we see in his laughing brown eyes. Now, Bernie's home with us. He has a plate and several screws in his pelvis, and is developing the muscle in his back side. Occasionally he has some incontinence, but it hasn't happened around us yet, and that's improving as his little back side is getting stronger. He's a sweet boy. As soon as Ginger decides to share here mommy, , all will be well! |
:) :) Congrats on your little boy, and Bless your heart for giving him this chance! I cried when i read the story, but i know he is going to have the best life with you and your family. He could not wish for better. Best wishes, and lots of hugs to the little one from us. Edit: I forgot to say what a precious face he has, he's a doll! |

drowning in yorkie cuteness Okay, I just took Ginger and Bernie on their first walk together. Matching harnesses (her's pink, his blue), and I used a coupler. I was really nervous that it may not go well, but seriously....they did great (like they've always walked attached to each other)! Yaaaaay Ginger and Bernie!!!!! |
Dobby's mom, Angela, Shannon, Sophie'smom, Bettyeanne, and Chelsey... Thanks! We feel lucky to have Bernie. :) |

Oh Bless your heart! He is a handsome guy and I bet he will never forget what you and the rescue did for him. |
This is wonderful!! Congradulations and good luck with your new baby. This is how we got our German Shepherd. My father was driving behind a station wagon when all of a sudden the window opend and some one threw the puppy out the window. He rolled across the road and was hit. The car just kept going. My father quickly pulled over and ran to the puppy, called my mom and they both took him to the Vet. He had surgury on his legs and got his shots and a clean bill of health. Bust most importantly he got a new home. We loved him like crazy and still do. Unfortunatly we had to put him down last year, but he is still in our hearts. I miss you Sammy.:animal-pa |

yay!!! You got Bernie! i've read his story a couple times online. Your so lucky to have gotten him and he's so lucky to have such a wonderful home now! |
Thank you all for your kind words! I truly appreciate everyone's support and kindness. If it seems like I'm spending a lot of time here today, I'm trying to give Ginger & Bernie a chance to get to know each other. I'm typing standing at my kitchen counter so that there are no battles over my lap:rolleyes: and keeping one eye on them while acting like I'm not paying attention. Ginger's been a bit pouty, but Bernie's not falling for her act, so she's becoming increasingly interested;) . We've been for several walk (the coupler is amazing) and cuddled a few times, but it's most important that the two of them bond...(right now they are very nearly snuggled up on the dining room rug):aimeeyork :aimeeyork |
