As I said when I gave the gene example, I was oversimplifying it greatly to explain it to the people that don't understand why a dog can have a gene and it doesn't show up. I didn't get into incomplete dominance or co-dominance because that would be a HUGE can of worms. There are also instances where other coat genes (there are separate genes for color that intermingle with each other) mask even dominant genes, such as the case with tan/gold coloring. In the end, everything works together, but in order to get anything close to looking like a parti, you must have the correct set of genes. Therefore, the parti gene is actually a set of genes that interact with another set to create the coloring. It's kind of like a rock-paper-scissors situation. Because the overly dominant genes are blue/black and tan/gold, that is why they are seen so often, but it does not mean that they were not there to 'begin with' (take 'begin with ' as whatever you may, as someone said, all dogs originated as crosses.)

For instance, I bet many of you didn't know that the dominant gene for humans is to have SIX toes. Yes, dominant. So, why doesn't it show up very often? It is because the majority of humans are carriers of the recessive 5-toe gene. If somebody with 5-toes would ever have kids with a 6-toer, 6-toed kids would have a 50% chance or better of showing up.
Did we outcross with another species to get this 'messed up' trait? Of course not. It's just not prolific enough in the gene pool to show up. The same happens with parti coloring.

These dogs are not crossed with anything. They are the product of two traditional yorkies just like the Biewers are. If there was a maltese mixed in or any other dog, it was way back before the breed was a breed of its own.

There were no doubt parti yorkies showing up way back when, but because they did not meet the standard they were probably culled at birth. We're a bit more civilized now.

The breeder that my parti is from the Crownridge/Summit yorkies. were show breeders of traditional yorkies for years before they got their first parti yorkie. Each of these puppies have been DNA'd extensively before being registered.

The pedigrees are available at the AKC website, if you want to investigate this for yourself. I'm sure if you do a search under Crown Ridge or Summit, it will all come.

It also says for alternate colors visit akc colors dot org. in that section there are three boxes for color you enter 01p for parti yorkie coloration.

I didn't know that. That's very interesting. About the toes I mean.

I have seen them as much 7,000 but they tend to run between 4 to 5 thousand.

That will be up to the powers that be to determine how they are going to classify them or show them or separate them. they could just divide them into color groups or they could be put them in a class by themselves.

My guess is, that somewhere down the line the parti breeders will get their own breed club and set their own standards. Or they might get some people in the YTCA that are a little more open minded. they got the AKC to recognize them, that is the first step.

The Biewers, on the other hand are well established in Europe, so they probably have their own breed club.

Just because you know a lot of breeders that have never had a parti show up doesn't prove a thing. I don't know any people with 6 toes either. But that doesn't prove Alliec1 wrong

Some people need to be shown, and will not take things easily. that's OK cause I'm sure the originators have everything well documented.

I have a Question? Why is it that Cockerspaniels come in black, tan , and partie ? So not knowing a thing about this just learning :) Did they always come that way or did the parties have to convence the other to let them join? If they did why is it so hard to let parties and brewiers be a color with the regular yorkies??????????????

well im new to yorkie talk and at the time i posted i didnt know there was a place for sale ad not to mention i wanted to get the word out there about parti yorkies because i have had so many people ask if they are mix including on yorkie talk. I understand there are people on here that have more knowledge than me! rare to me was just a way for me to say there not as well known as your black&tan. if i was using rare to try to boost ability, i would have said something more like rare and exotic. just wondering what do you feel a parti should go for?

When you said you bought them online - are you saying they're selling for 7 thou ?? holy cow - that's NUTS :) The ones I've seen are selling for approx 3,500.00 which is pretty high too when you look at the 'big' picture....I can't believe the prices of small breeds these days ...I'm glad I got my girls when I did :D

The $3500 is in the price range that CrownRidge is selling them for. Since they cannot be shown that is quite a hefty price.

I'm not sure how these other people get more. May it's the Jeff Dane syndrom. The mentality that if you pay more you get more.

I would warn any buyer to be very careful on buying these. Make sure they are AKC registered and check the pedigrees. Because I am sure there are some mixes out there and some of these registries don't care where they came from.

JMHO But if they did not come from the Crownridge/Summit lines then I wouldn't buy them.

I just want to add that I know of very reputable breeders who are selling Biewers that can be traced back thru their pedigrees to true German bloodlines, for between 3,000 and 4,000....but to have a parti sell for that much, which dosn't have a standard set for them or anything, I think is quite alot of money, just my honest opinion.

And one more thing, for those looking for Biewers, please look for a reputable biewer breed club. There are a couple here in the states, and would be willing to help out anyone looking for true biewers. Just make sure you do your homework, as with buying any breed of dog. There are more unethical breeders out there than ethical. Always do your research!!!!!!

i don't think dogs should EVER be considered rare....you purposely mate these dogs so it cannot be RARE.
