My son and his wife hav a beautiful 3 lb yorkie. The are both graduates of the University of Florida - hence, the name AlliGator! Alli is our princess![SIZE=2 I will have to try inserting a pic of Alli - the one to the left is of Alli's "Uncle" Reagan - my sweet baby! Named for the President as we got him just over a year ago! :aimeeyork

Maggie's name just kinda popped in my head. A lot of people think I'm a Rod Stewart fan because her name is Maggie Mae and that's not the case. I just thought it was a cute name. When I first started thinking about getting a dog, I was going to name it (either boy or girl) KC (pronounced Casey) because I'm a HUGE Kenny Chesney fan. But Maggie Mae just seemed better for a small dog.

Maximus from Gladiator....lol, his bark was HUGE...lol, and so after 2 days of deliberation it popped into our heads and that became his name, a 80lb. pit bull who goes to my vet is name TINY..lol, so they always say there name tags ans personalities must have been switched at birth..lol

Stomper!

My yorkie's name is Stomper. Nobody has heard of that name for a dog! My husband loves the Oakland Athletics. I had two choices...either Peanut (baseball game theme) or Stomper (Modesto Athletics mascot). I liked Stomper since I can call him "Stomp" or "Stompie". The name fits him well...he is big (11 pounds at 6 months), thinks he is SO tough and also gets "stepped on" every once in a while (not on purpose of course!). I love my baby!

This has been so fun to read--

We got Keeley less then a week ago, but have been planning on naming him Keeley for a while, after a good friend of my husband who passed away last October. Keeley, was his last name, and that is what his friends called him. At his funeral they talked a lot about his love for animals and so it was a perfect fit.

We are not sure of what his full AKC name will be yet. But I am sure it'll be fun.

It took me forever to think of something good for my baby 'Tini. It finally came to me one night when I was out with friends.....I decided to name her after my favorite drink.....a Bombay Sapphire Gin Martini.
So...her full registered name is Sapphire Martini Guennewig (I had to include my last name since she is my kid) and I call her 'Tini for short! It also works due to her small size. Most people think that is why she is named 'Tini!

Love this thread! So interesting :-) We named Romeo after my husband's uncle Romeo. My husband is italian and I wanted something that would sound italian to go with our last name. We tossed different things around for a week or two before we got him. I thought of Bruiser...one night he just came out with Romeo and it sounded good...I said maybe...when I actually met my puppy...I immediately said yes, because I fell in love with him and he just looked like a Romeo to me! Everyone gets a kick out of his name. The breeder was calling him Jody but he hadn't learned it. Took about a week and a half and he knew his name once he was with us. To me, it was meant to be!

saturdayslots 06-07-2005 10:54 AM

We named him Keno after my husbands favorite lottery game and his middle name Byrd after my father who passed away a few years ago. He would have loved him

A friend of mine got a boston terrier puppy about a year ago and she asked me what she should name him. After I met him, I was totally sold on the name Tucker but she didn't want to name him that because it reminded her of a dead aunt or something....

But I fell in love with the name and while I considered a whole list of names, Tucker kept coming back to me as the favorite.

When he was 6 weeks old, I got a call from the breeder with an update on how he was doing and she asked if I had any names under consideration. I told her about Tucker and she just gasped and said it was PERFECT for him. Not only did he look like a Tucker, but he also liked to "tuck" himself under the other puppies, mom, or whatever he could find and he was so cute doing it.

So, it stuck. :)

My non-yorkie is Memphis. He was named after Nic Cages charactor in Gone in 60 Seconds since that is my favorite movie. I was going to name my yorkie Venice but thought that I would get the opinions of people here before deciding on a name. Everyone liked the name Venice but then Redneckwoman suggested Preslee. And it stuck I love the name and she is the one that put me in touch with my pup so there you have it, Preslee is her name.

Thanks Red.

My name list was mostly just two; Lola and Coco. Lola was because my nephew watched this cartoon with Lola in it and he said it really cute. He pronounced it wowa. Coco was because I LOVE Chanel (Even though I can't afford it). So when I got her she just looked like a Coco. I usually pick names that have more than one meaning. Such as Coco for the chocolate powder also. But mainly it's because of the designer Coco Chanel. :p

Ann 06-07-2005 05:55 PM

Copper's name was inspired by the little dog on "The Fox and the Hound" Disney Movie. I just loved his personality on the movie...then when Copper came out chocolate colored, it really kind of fit him, because he has a lot of copper color in him. So far, he has a really cute personality, too!

Believe it or not Cocoa Killer has his name set a few years before we got him. :D My fiance and I had been wanting a little yorkie for the longest time, but we never had the "right time" to do it because I was so busy with my school / work. So instead of giving up on the idea, we began thinking of names for our "future" dog.

After a few names, "Killer" stuck out because of its uniqueness. My fiance loves the name. He think it's funny and cute for a little dog to have such an aggressive name. (What a sense of humor...) ... I like the name too, but personally I also want something a little bit "softer"... So at the end, we compromised on "Cocoa Killer."

That is so funny! Every time I take Sully in to work with me, my coworkers (especially one of them) always calls him "Killer". This particular coworker, a late-50s Harley Davidson fan, just thinks it is a crime that Sully doesn't have more of a vicious name in his defense, haha!

I didn't know that there was another Memphis on here and the even funnier part is that Paris was one of the names that I considered for my little girl but settled on Preslee. :)

Honey's_Mom 06-08-2005 06:08 AM

My husband and I had Honey's name picked out long before we got married. Her full name is "Honey Magoo" and Magoo's was a restaurant in Chattanooga we used to go to all the time while we were dating. They had the best chicken fingers and honey mustard dip. One day over lunch at Magoo's, we were making future plans like young dating couples do and I told my then boyfriend, now husband, I wanted to name our dog after something sentimental to us. That's how we came up with Honey Magoo! Seems silly to name your dog after food, but when we finally picked her up years later after we were married, we always knew that's what her name would be!

By the way, passionfruition, my husband graduated from Carson Newman too!

I love this story. So romantic. I love the name too. Honey will always be a reminder of your love for each other. Oh by the way is not silly at all.

Willy's name

My husband is really into Jeeps & several of our animals have had references to Jeeps in their names. Naturally when my husband mentioned Jeeps again I wasnt to thrilled. However this time he said how about Willy, and I thought he kind of looked like a Willy, so that stuck. And he is registered as Willy Overland. (Which is a old Jeep, before they were called Jeeps.)After we got his papers back we found out that his fathers name is also Will. So it fits him perfect.
Desiree

When I started wanting a Yorkie, I made up a list of 20 girl names, and 20 boy names. When I got my little girl (nearly 10 yrs. now), That evening and the next day - we "tried out" names. Little tiny thing at 6 weeks - when I got to the s's - she started cocking her head - and when I said Sabrina, here she came!

And no, she doesn't come now when I say Sabrina, come - she heads in the other direction - oh well, I had such hopes.

Buddy 06-08-2005 09:37 AM

My fiance wanted to name him after beer! He wanted to call him Carlsberg, but I said no way! Then he said 'Buddweiser', and then my daughter suggested Bud for short - then we settled on Buddy! (his middle name's 'Bramble' though, which is what my son suggested!)

Olivia's full name is Olivia Nannette Eny.

One of my best friends was scheduled to be induced to have her baby the day I was getting Olivia. This is her 4th child and she and her husband had no names picked. Her other kids have older, more traditional names and she was hoping to go with the same theme. My boyfriend found a website to search for the most popular names by decade and we began looking in the early 1900's for names and found Olivia. She rejected Olivia and it stuck with me. It was between Olivia and Lola, but she just looked like an "Olivia!"

My Olivia is a Brazillian baby and was given the Braziliian registration name Eny. The "American" name given to her was Nannette. I thought this sounded cute with Olivia and it stuck.

Coincidentally, my cat's name is Theo. So, we have a whole Cosby's theme going! (Olivia was played by Raven Symone)

Name game

I have not gotten my yorkie yet but have put down a deposit on a female yorkie. I named her "Muffin" in remembrance of a chihuahua I had as a kid . Unfortunately Muffin was run over by a car which broke my heart. I named her for the old Muffin I once had.

My 19 wk old puppy's name is Miso. My cousins and I both got new puppies and the other puppy's name is Mochi, and in order to keep with the M tradition in rememberence of my recently passed away uncle's name which started with M, my family picked Miso...not the soup, it stands for smile in Korean :) The bad part is though everyone gets the two dog's names mixed up haha

jbarile 06-20-2005 04:12 PM

When we first brought Sami home he reminded me of a little chinese boy(because of his little eyes) So we named him Sami Yin he is my little samurai :D

Deegan's mom 06-23-2005 01:04 PM

Hi there,

I just got my pup a week ago Friday, and we named him Deegan. My boyfriend named him that because he's a total motorcross freak, and Brian Deegan is one of the pro riders. I wasn't crazy about the name in the begining, but now I love it - it's original!

BeanSprout 06-23-2005 05:22 PM

BeanSprout

I always wanted a Westie. I fantasized about little Jack. Until....

One day, about 2 months ago, I was watching TV. A commercial came on for Green Beans--- the ones in the can. Well, the Jolly Green Giant was talking to his little friend "Sprout." At that Moment,I looked at my husband and announced: I am getting a Yorkie, and his name will be BeanSprout.

A month later,a breeder called to say she had a little boy that she could not breed due to his large size....

He is sitting next to me on the bed now!!

I am in love:)
