i tried so many names. when someone said nala i just let it go in one ear and out the other but then i realized nothing else fit her and the more i thought about the lion king the more it reminded me of my baby. she's a girly girl but also acts like a tomboy(beating her brother up, lol) and she always pounces around and acts like a cat.

Mystify79 04-15-2005 07:36 AM

My DH & I came up with the name Pixie long before we even started looking for a 2nd dog. We just were sitting around thinking that if we ever got a girl dog we would want her to have a really super cutsey girly name that wasn't a people name (my DH is highly opposed to naming dogs w/ people names, though I have no idea why. ) Since our Maltese is named Tuffy we decided that the name Pixie would be a perfect counter to his name. When we finally decided to get our Yorkie I was worried that the name wouldn't fit her personality, but we lucked out because she is such a Pixie. She romps around like she is sprinkling Pixie dust. :D

She-ra's Mama 04-15-2005 09:13 AM

When I got She-ra, I thought she really looked like a princess, but I didn't want that to be her name, one morning, I was thinking about a cartoon I watched when I was younger called "She-ra, princess of power." She was also on He-man. So that was perfect for her, it wasn't original so I knew alot of people would'nt have it!!!!

I wanted to name Frankie something Italian, but every word I could think of was too long and had too many syllables so then we thought of a lot of the men in my family have Frank as either a first or middle name, and then we thought of Frank Sinatra. So we decided on Frankie and then instead of Ol' Blue eyes, it's Frankie Brown Eyes!! Also we all like yelling "Aye, yo Frank-Kay"... ;)

PIXIE 04-15-2005 05:17 PM

I had a real hard time with naming mine which was strange to me because I never had problems with names before. I went from Bear, Toby, and another name I can't even remember now! :D My husband just didn't think it fit so out of the blue I suggested CHico and he loved it so it stuck. On his Reg. he is La Chico Royal (The Little Royal), Royal coming from both his parents had it on there Reg. papers so I wanted him to have something of thiers.
But my little 2 year old Kayla still calls him Bob Bob for Sponge Bob! :p

Anyhow, I LOVED the name Esme. It's different and cute! So, we got Esme shortly after I finished this book, and that's the name she got.

I would actually like to contact the author and let her know she was so inspirational, I decided to name my dog after her! I would be so honored if someone named their dog after me. :)

I am a teacher too and when I found out the name of your dog I was like, I know that name from somewhere... Now that you mentioned the book, I made the connection.. I read it last year and its been a good motivational book for me because I am a teacher too

[COLOR=Teal]Our "Reagan" was born at the time of Ronald Reagan's funeral. We love the name and decided to name him in honor of the President! He is almost a year old and is the sweetest - and spunkiest companion! My husband spends the days with him and I can't wait to get home from school (work) to see the lilttle bugger! Maybe we should have named him "bugger

lickthestar 04-16-2005 06:35 AM

Kiwi's mom 04-20-2005 07:58 AM

Food for thought

The wedding pictures are stunning. They have such a nice bohemian feel to them. You both look very carefree and happy. Congratulations!

My husband and I were originally going to name our puppy Truffles, as we are both interested in gourmet food. But we ended up getting a female instead of a male, and truffles didn't really work for a little girl. We figured that we will stick we the food theme, and Kiwi soudned very girly and diminutive. So now we have our Kiwi, and she really suits the name.

Marlee 04-20-2005 08:25 AM

Passion, your wedding was beautiful, just like I would have liked insted of the stuffy one we had...lol

Originally her name was supposed to be Sadie, or Princess Tia, but neither fit. I actully named Bridget by listing out a bunch of names I liked from a baby website ( I was frustrated with finding one on my own)Took them into the front room, and Bridget was the one she responded to, so it stuck.

Not so sure on the next litte guy, I love boomer, but who knows

myguyalex 04-20-2005 09:29 AM

When I got my little guy the money I bought him with was from birthday presents. I am a big baseball fan and so I started thinking about sports names. One of my favorite ball players shares the same birthday as I. So I picked Alex for Alex Rodriguez. The name stuck and he was the best present I ever could have gotten. Plus now, he is the mascot for my boyfriends fantasy baseball team.

We name Gucci after my sister yorkie boy. She had to sell him cause her husband is in the navy and they were moving a lot. I was so angry at her that she didnt let me keep him since we love him so much. At that time we decided that we were going to get our own "Gucci". So when we saw our little one, the first name that came to our mind was Gucci.

jackandjill 04-20-2005 10:39 AM

What inspired your yorkie's name

There are a couple if reasons that I named my little 6 months old today "Jack".
First, my name is Jill, and I am forever being asked where "Jack" is? So now I can point to my puppy and say, "there he is".
Being British I am still very patriotic to England, even though I have lived in America for 40 years and am a citizen. I am what Julie Andrews refers to as a Mid Atlantican. When I register Jack his name will be "Prince Union Jack" in remembrance of the flag that I was born under.
Reading the reasons for naming the yorkies is fasinating, and really
interesting to see what influences peoples lives.
Thank you for thinking of it.
Jack and Jill

trio 04-20-2005 05:25 PM

well he's the third born out of hs litter and my business associate came up with trio one night and it was cute, not too girly and i liked it. so trio is his name. the breeder was calling him number three for thse longset! lol

Mydogkelsey 04-20-2005 06:04 PM

I've always liked yorkies..obsessed over them and how cute they were before getting mine. I saw a little stuffed animal that was a yorkie and it had a name engraved "Kelsey" on it. So every since I saw it, i would always call the yorkies I would see out in public, pitctures etc. a "Kelsey Dog". So when I finally got Kelsey, there was no doubt I would name her that! :p :animal-sm

ldenise 04-20-2005 08:18 PM

Heya everyone! I thought the newbies could join in our name-stories! I know there have been a lot of ppl join since this post was up and running :)

Newbies, what inspired you to name your yorkie what you did?

kewtee 06-03-2005 11:31 PM

What a great read to know how you all got the name for your cuties :)

We were told that since yorkies are small dogs with great personalities they were often named after great humans; Cleopatra, Caesar etc.
So we thought about it and Kali was our first and she was a killer - we were convinced she saw herself as very dangerous.
Therefore we agreed on giving her the only name that fit her personality: Kali. Kali is the name of the queen of all demons! And yes there is also a hindu god called Kali :)
http://www.deliriumsrealm.com/deliri...ology/cali.asp - and of course we are her human victims :p

I found the name so when we got no. 2 it was my husbands time to find a name. He loves the sea, so he named her after the greatest element of all: Mare means sea in latin.
And of course she is black as night and therefore a nightmare :D
And of course she loves to sleep on my chest:
http://www.randomhouse.com/wotd/inde...?date=19990618 - "'a spirit supposed to sit on people's chests as they sleep and cause them suffocating pain"

We discussed calling them Reagan and Merrin (The Exorcist)but decided it was too corny. We also had Pain and Suffering as options, but decided those were not subtle enough and people might be offended.

I am pretty happy with their names :)

Dinero

Well....haha. Dinero's name is a long story. But here goes....around Thanksgiving my brother got a Yorkie from a breeder north of here(Shawnee)..I don't really thing it was a full blood Yorkie. He was the right colors but didn't look like it other than that. He bought it for a girl that wanted one..but hadn't checked to see if pets were allowed in her apt. So when she found out she couldn't have him my brother went and picked him up. He had to go to the denist that day and it was nice outside. I was fixing to get off work and take the pup home with me. It was nice outside so while he was in the denist he just put the pup in the back of his pickup. Well about 10 minutes later...well maybe not that long I went out to get the pup and it was gone....We(my brother & I) both cried. I went and got a Daily Oklahoman and started looking for another Yorkie while he went around and told the security officer. We never found the pup(Hopefully he has a good home) but I found a breeder in Sterling, OK. I called her and she said she had a little boy. He was about 7 weeks old. I told her I would meet her somewhere that nite. So I drove 1/2 way to a town between here and her and picked up Dinero(both dogs cost $1000 together). I brought him home and my brother said he cost alot of $$ I think he should be named DINERO...so thats how he got his first name. I got his papers out later and was going to register him. I noticed that his dad was Digger Dakota Dancer. I thought Dinero Dakota was such a cute name. And since we got him from my brother and his last name is Morgan. I named him Dinero Dakota Morgan-Parnell. WOW POOR PUPPY...He won't ever learn his FULL name. But he knows Dinero..and Dinero Dakota(when he is being bad) haha!!!
See told you it was LONG!!!!!!!

My daughters yorkies were named by them. Pierce is named after Pierce Brosnan  and Crystal after the champagne. She is in love with the James Bond guy :p . His full name is Pierce Crystal Polanco 13 months. .
While on vacation my middle daughter bought a yorkie, naming her Mia meaning hers only  and Alize after the liqour as well. Her name is Mia Alize 6 months, her registered name is Mooremannor Miss Lady Di :( given to her by the breeder.
These are my little darlings, my daughters are 25 & 16 and as I figure it would happen. I'm the one taking care of Pierce & Mia. It's so much fun to be around not one but two kissing bandits! :kiss2:  :kiss2:

Thank you for the invitation to join this thread. I have been on for a while reading lots of good advises. These are our first Yorkies. :yorkiesar

My husband is a graduate of Texas A&M University. The university calls the males Aggie's and the females are Maggie's. Her registered name is Texas Aggie's Maggie. Figured I had better give hubby some credit for her, since he is the one that pays her bills.

MeganS 06-04-2005 07:57 AM

We named our old yorkie Bandit Bandit becasue he stole our hearts. and we are naming our new yorkie Tucker Tucker because he is named after Dr. Tucker, one of the vets who tried to save Bandit.

lycansmom 06-04-2005 08:03 AM

ok so here is the "odd" side to me and my husband when we were teenagers we were both into vampires and werewolves so we chose the name Lycan which is short for lycanthrope which is another word for werewolf. Since she died at such a young age as a tribute we will be naming the new puppy Luna (another word for moon) this way the names are kind of linked. Toby is just toby but i call him toggle cause he reminds me of the little guy off of Labrynth.

Naming my Yorkie

Hey everybody - I am new here and I have enjoyed all the stories of how your Yorkie names came to be.
I live in England UK and I had my Yorkie on Christmas Eve 2004 as a present. Originally, I had picked out a name for her as well as toys and food bowls, bedding just as any expectant new Yorkie owner does (or is that just me??) anyway, I originally named her Tiffany and it has that name on her pedigree documents. About 2 weeks after I had her, I was in our local Pets At Home store and this guy who told me that he was a Yorkie breeder told me that Tiffany was, in fact a boy - shock horror - but I thought that it was destiny that I picked that puppy - so regardless, I loved 'him' just as much and so I was thinking of a name when I saw some cookies on a advertisement so the name Cookie came to be. I had a slight doubt of this guy's judgement, and as Cookie or Cooks as I call her, was the smallest of the litter, it was difficult for me to tell what sex she or he was. I called her Cookie for weeks and then I went to the breeder as I promised I would take Cooks to visit her once a month and I relayed my confusion and Mirriam (breeder) assured me that Cooks was, in fact a girl - so I am glad I picked a 'neutral' name. BTW she still answers to Tiffany, poor baby - she has two dog tags on her collar bearing both names.

MEMnGIRL 06-04-2005 08:52 AM

well, we got memphis from 2 places... Memphis the speaker, and Memphis Raynes from Gone in 60 seconds. And Paris just came to me. It was a good complimenting name for Memphis.

[COLOR=Blue]I have 2 choc. males who are named Truffles and Snickers. My parti male is Rini's Remington Whatta Pistol cause he was such a bratty baby. Skylar is Rini's BluSkiesSmilinAtMe for the song. Cruiser's reg name is Austin in Germany, but his butt looked just like the back of a white PTCruiser conv. with a black top. Ilsa's reg name is Bridgit Bardot( the French actress) but we liked Ilsa as she came from Germany and not France. Chrystel Marinda had to be named with a "C" cause she was in a "C" litter in Germany. I had just found that my great grandmother's name was Marinda so I used that as middle name. Whisper's name is Rini's WhisprinHopeForTomorrow (her mom's name is Primrose Voice of an Angel).. My heart of hearts that died recently was named Rini's LilOutlawJesseJames after the outlaw who was a distant cousin and Jesse was so spoiled and ornery as a puppy.
My poor babies have gone for as long as 2 months before they finally named themselves.. Thanx for starting this thread. It is a fun read..

daisysmom 06-04-2005 11:19 AM

It started when we named our first dog Meeju from a girl that was on a Korean Soap Opera type Drama Show. When we got Pochi aka Pochacco(pronounced Poe-cha-co) we wanted to keep with that same flow and have him have a Korean name and having looked everywhere for Korean names I couldn't find anything that fit him. So oneday I happened to be looking at the Hello Kitty website (I loved Hello Kitty as a kid!!!) and found that he looked like one the character and it fits him so well (the character is the little white with a little bit of black dog that plays soccer) which is named Pochacco and from then it caught on. Chopstix we call him Choppi (Choppi is another Hello Kitty Character) and Daisy's middle name Pinki Lili (Pinki Lili is another Hello Kitty Character).

Luv My Prince 06-04-2005 12:23 PM

When l first entered the pet store with my fiance, I fell in love with Prince. He was gorgeous, friendly, and he had big ears like me. HeHe. I knew I had to get him. So on the train ride home, I was contemplating names and thought King was fitting because he was my new king. But then my fiance got jealous and said he was my king, hence Prince. He still is my king though, between us.
