Sully conquers the bridge!

The newly-opened New Cooper River Bridge in Charleston, SC, has a span of 1,546 feet (464 meters) and a rise of 186 feet (56 meters) above the water. It currently holds the record for being the longest cable-stayed span in North America! (Here's an arial view of the bridge.)

Yesterday (January 21, 2006) we had 75° weather....so we figured it was a great day to walk across the bridge! It has a really neat walking/biking lane and it's a popular way for Charlestonians (and visitors) to exercise!

Anyway, here are a few photos I took while walking the bridge yesterday! This 4th one is my FAVORITE! :D (Scroll down for more!)

The wind was blowing and Sully loved sniffing all the smells of the salty air!

BUT.....he didn't like going to the edge! LOL, not at all! If we even walked NEAR the edge he put on the brakes!

The 3rd pic is a view of the Mt. Pleasant side of town (where we live) from the top/middle of the bridge.

Those are really great photos, and Sully looks gorgeous as always. I'm pretty jealous of that 75 degree weather...

You get the COOLEST Shots and do the most fun stuff - WOW IS THAT BRIDGE LONG ! I'm scared of bridges.... but that one is majestic and that picture of Sully with his hair blowing is AWESOME !

I love the pictures and wow - You guys must have been tired after crossing that one....

Sully The Wonder Dog - King of the BRIDGE ! :thumbup: I love it - those pictures were just outstanding Val...and he is very smart to put those breaks on - I got a little queasy looking over the edge and it's only a PICTURE ! lol -

He's SO cute :) What a good sport

Wow those are so good!! Looks like Sully had a blast! I am deathly afraid of bridges! I wouldn't even be able to step foot on it! :p

Heh. If you're afraid of this one, you should have seen the one that was here earlier this year before this one opened!!!

The state gives safety ratings from 1-100 to each bridge...and the old Cooper River Bridges received a safety rating of 4!!!!!!!!

This new bridge is 8 traffic lanes wide, not to mention the walking/biking lanes so it barely even feels like a bridge at all. :p

Thank you very much! He is pretty photogenic....but I admit I did take my professional digital with me as well :p

OH! And I forgot to mention that Sully wore his Superman shirt (Super Sully, as I call it) and I wore a Superman shirt too (got it from Lands End). People commented on how brave little Sully was and I pointed to my shirt and said I was just a proud Mom! LOL.

Yeah, we matched. How pathetic is that. Obsessed? No, not me! :cool:

OMG!! A 4!!! I would throw up if I had to cross it even by car! :p

When I was growing up here in Charleston I used to take a life jacket in my parents' van with me JUST IN CASE!

The TV News channel would have specials "just in case" your car was ever submerged in water, what do you do?

POGO!

Pop your seatbelt, Open the window and Get Out! (You can't open the door at underwater pressures, so that's why it's better to have manual windows you can roll down and escape in times of danger!!)

Haha, crazy I know that stuff right? :p

Val,

I haven't been over the new bridge yet, but I had my one and only almost panic attack :eek: while driving across the old Cooper River Bridge! I'm GLAD that it is gone and I never have to drive over it again!!

Sully was very brave walking across the new bridge!

What a brave boy Sully is!!!! Sully looks sooo cute and you can tell how brave he is!!! LOL!!!! So seet!!! And Sully and Weegie can be twins!!! They have the same Superman t-shirt! I, on the other hand, do not--unfortunatly! LOL

Looks like you all had a ball!!!! What a beautiful area you live in!!

SuperSully!!!! It looks like he's ready to take off!! I'm tellin' ya! That dog has way more fun than I do!! :D

The bridge is such an improvement over the old one! I just LOVE Charleston. I've always said that that's where I want to retire.

WOW...I loooove your shots (especially the 4th one)! You are a great photographer! You have a very handsome model as well!! Sully is adorable! Now I know why Chanel has such a crush on him! :D

Sully- you are our hero. Great pictures of King of the Bridge. I love them and Sully is very smart not wanting to get to close to the edge. Love the matching shirts too!!!!!!
