Awww what a sweet little face! Congrats! |
Very adorable! I understand how hard it is to wait. I wasn't supposed to get a puppy until later this summer but someone decided not to take home their little girl so she became available. I snagged her quick. I love her and I know you will love yours😀 |
I am new here too, I will be bringing home two little girls on the 10th any advice would be awesome. I'm getting everything ready at home for them is there anything you guys suggest to have before they come home? :yorkieg: :yorkieg: |
Not knowing if these are your first puppies- I don't know how much experience you already have. These are some things that surprised me with my first puppy. So...just some suggestions from living with Izzie: 1. Crating my Izzie at night was the best thing for my fur-baby. I put in a small alarm clock that ticks, soft blanket and a chew toy. During the day, when she was not being held, played with or right near us, we put her in her ex pen. No, she didn't like it, but she adapted. She is 7 mos. now and was potty trained by six months. She is still crated at night but loose all day now. (she just went on a 5 mi hike with me the other day, she is fine, I on the other hand am not!!) 2. Make sure you have "leaving plans". Where does the dog go when you have to be away from them? How long are you needing to be away? If you work, who will take the puppies out during the day? If you need to board them-then you will have to research, you will need a vet, have all shots caught up and sometimes even fixed. They might need to interview the dog--well, the point is--it all takes time so plan ahead. 3. Do you want to take your dog(s) with you in the car? I have a small dog and strapped a small clothes basket in the passenger seat, put in a big pillow and "voile" instant car seat. She loves to look out when traveling. 4. What do you do with dogs when they are with you in the car and you need to stop in a store to get milk and bread that is desperately needed, but it is 20 degrees outside? a. Leave them in the car and run in and out quickly? b. Not take them in the first place? c. Make sure someone is with them in the car and leave car running? d. Bring them in the store with you? 5. Make sure wherever you go you have a bottle of water a some type of bowl. All of these are situations I did not plan for, so we are learning together, my little Izzie and I. |
the only question I really have is about is grooming. do you use reg puppy shampoo? and when do you start using bows and how often do you take them to the groomer? my fur babies I have now have short hair but id like for this one to have longer hair |
Boy, I sure wish I had known about the groomer in advance!! At 5 months Izzie was terrified!! In preparation for the groomer wish I had: 1. Brushed puppy everyday. 2. Pretend to cut hair with scissors. Open and close the scissors around the puppies body to let them hear the sound to get used to it. 3. Put scissors near eyes (carefully!!!) and open and close them. 4. Grasp the fur under chin and hold while cooing sweetly and/or treat. Bows, barrettes and baubles for puppies. Cute, but too distracting. My girl is a tomboy. They don't stay on. Shampoo, from petsmart, something light, I worry about allergies (so far so good). Make sure you line up a good vet. Instead of bows, I paid for shots and the examination. |
I have a vet I've used for about 10 yrs now. I was planning on taking the pup for a check up when I get her just to make sure everything is fine. |
First Yorkie Having owned a Yorkie for 11 years and my first, I received some good advice from a friend who owned Yorkies. First, they are indoor dogs and get cold easily. My dog always wore coats in the winter and likes soft, fleece blankets all year to stay warm inside. Second, they are prone to tartar buildup and I recommend brushing teeth or using the anti-tartar gel at least twice a week. Third, they are prone to stomach and kidney problems. I had always fed my dog Royal Canin as was recommended by her breeder. My new vet recommends the frozen diets like Primal or Stella & Chewys. Yorkies have a tendancy to get matter buildup in their tear ducts. I use moisture only drops about once a week.:):animal-pa |
What a lil doll:love: |
for my fur babies now I use grain free blue buffalo the breeder uses this brand as well but ill wright the other brand down incase I have any issues |
First I want to say all your guys advice is awesome, so thank you so much. I have had other puppies chihuahuas, and a boxer it's been a few years since my last fur baby losing him was hard and now I'm ready for my two little loves to join my family. I grew up with my friend who has a Yorkie he is around 20 yrs old now but having my own is different. I have done extensive research and talked to vets in my area to choose the right one for my girls. I really just think the best advice comes from people who have a Yorkie/Yorkies in their families. I have a car seat, but wish I would have thought of your brilliant idea of a laundry basket that's genius. I also have a soft carrier/crate and an exercise pen for them, haven't found a groomer I like yet I've seen some reviews that made my skin crawl one groomer shaved a ladies Yorkie bald and claimed the dog was matted when she was a show dog and very well pampered so I'm very cautious on who to trust. I posted the allergy list to my fridge so no mistake is made food wise, I picked up maden pin brush and comb for their everyday brushing along with a leave in spray. I bought glass bowls to keep the facial hair from becoming discolored ext.. I feel like I'm forgetting so much though. I'd rather be over prepared then under prepared. My biggest fear is I have a two story home and I can block off my stairs with my baby gate but I have a black iron railing I'm scared of them falling I don't know how to post a photo on my comment or I would so you guys can see. I've thought maybe I should make a long bumper guard filled with rice or sand so they can't fall or maybe a regular crib bumper will work. Oh and clipping their nails do you guys clip or use a dermal tool and how many of you guys pluck your babies ear hairs and who gets the vet to do it (I don't know if I could do it I wouldn't want to hurt them) I know this is super long sorry, oh and I'm going to be dropping off a blanket at the breeders so will smell like mom for them to help the transition of them coming home do you think it's a good idea or what is your guys opinions thank you again!:aimeeyork :aimeeyork |
I think the blanket is a good idea the lady we are getting our little girl from is sending us a blanket that she has been putting with the mom |

My girls are named Shiny and Wink. Oh and how exciting your baby is coming home!!! I have a couple pics on my profile that the breeder sent me and some when I went to make my down payment for them. Oh question are you going to use revolution on your little Molly? My breeder uses it and I have read up that it is very good I am going to ask my vet at our first appt. I just curious if anyone has experience with it. |
I was going to wait and see what the vet recommended |
