My New Little Girl 3 Attachment(s) Hello all. I'm new to the Yorkie world. This is my baby, Lacey Rose. Just picked her up Saturday. She was born 11-7-12. I am already under her spell. Should I have the hair on her ears trimmed now? The breeder cut some off her right ear to keep it from drooping, but her left ear droops now. Do they really pull the hair out? Doesn't that hurt? |
oh shes precious! congrats. they pull out hair from the inside......at the groomers but to my knowledge it doenst hurt. her ears are standing great i would leave as is...jmo. shes just beautiful. |
Welcome to YT. Lacey Rose is just adorable |
Oh my gosh - she is beautiful! The OP was right, they pull the hair out from the inside - when you take her to your vet for her first check up, ask them to check the ears - my vet did Izzy's ears for me because she had a lot of hair in the ears. As far as her ears standing up, yes, you will want to trim the hair from the tips if you want her ears to stand. Our Jack's ears stand and I did tip them but Izzy's flop over. I think they are cute both ways. Congrats on your little bundle. She is gorgeous! |
Welcome to YT! She is so adorable!!!!! :D |
She sure is a cutie and yes I pull the hair out from the insides of my dogs ears to keep them clean and free of ear infections. I do this when I am grooming them, they are so use to me doing this that they don't even notice it. If you are going to do this, I would have someone show me how the first few times. |
AWWWWWW she's beautiful!!! Does she like younger men? My Bentley is exactly 20 days her junior. lol The moment the breeder put Bentley in my arms a week ago this past Saturday I was under the Yorkie spell too. Welcome to the club. ;) I'm beginning to think Yorkies are like potato chips.....can't have just one. I'm already contemplating getting her a little sister about a year from now.:rolleyes: I finally trimmed Bentley's ears. He went from one ear up one ear down to both down. After much wailing and gnashing of teeth while trimming him tonight, I believe I will start letting a groomer do it. I'm just not taking him to a groomer yet. His vet does not want him at a groomer until he gets his kennel cough vaccine. |
Welcome! Lacey Rose is so darn cute. I always trim the hair of my 3 girls with a mini clipper. Mine don't seem to have a problem with hair in their ears so I have never pulled it out. |
Welcome Lacey Rose is adorable! |
Lacey is just precious. I would definitely trim the hair from the tips of her ears. Keeping the weight off of them will make it easier for her to keep her ears up. Some people pull the ear hairs out of the inside of the ears after using a special drying powder, and others don't. There are two schools of thought. It definitely helps to keep the wax out, but some vets say it makes it easier for infections to get in the ear. This sounds like a good topic for a new thread. I hope your life is filled with love, happiness, health, and laughter with your beautiful baby girl and that she will give you the wonderful, special life that I have had with my love bug Katie and her special sisters at the Rainbow bridge. They are all the loves in my life, and they taught me so much about love and commitment. Your life is forever changed because of loving your little girl. Good luck with her. We are here to help in any way that we can. |
Welcome to yorkie talk, she is a doll I love her face and the little head tilt makes her look just darling. |
Welcome to YT and thank you for sharing the pics of your new precious baby!! They don't pull the hair out, Sweetie. They just trim with trimmers - usually the top 1/3 and it will help with that droopy ear probably. Most recommend plucking the ears inside the ear..that may be what you were thinking of. That's a different part of the ear and for purposes of keeping the ear from "holding onto" water - which can lead to ear infections. I don't do the plucking tho. I just always dry Mandie's ears with a blow dryer immediately after I bathe her...before any other part of her body :) |
AWww! What a cutiepie & I love her name too! Welcome to YT. :) |
Thanks everyone for your sweet comments about my little one! I love her more every day. It is so hard to leave her each morning. I spend more time at work wondering about how she's doing than doing actual work. Lacey may have some separation anxiety, but I think I've got it much worse. Appreciate the info on ear trimming. She is not due for her final round of shots until March 1 so I don't want to take her to a groomer yet. She had an ear infection when I took her home supposedly from a recent bath. She is much better after six days of ear drops. No more scratching or shaking her little head. |
May i ask if you are useing a collar on her, in the pic's it looks like she has one on. If so please read up on the dangers of useing a collar and the benifit of useing a harness. She is such a cutie, welcome to YT. |

Also, and this is the hard part. When you get ready to leave do not acknowledge her. Sometimes anxiety they express is actually from what they feel from us. It really makes a difference. I forgot myself one day and did the bye bye thing. He was barking even after I closed the door. When I just put him in his pen and get my stuff and don't say a thing he is in his bed quietly and just watches. When I return he is in the same spot. No he does not stay there all day lol. My girls get home before I do. My 16 year old is in a walking boot atm so basically his entertainment is left to my 12 year old. She just sits in his pen and plays with him. She told me that when he hears me unlock the door he goes and gets in his bed. I guess it's his way of saying "see mommy I've been a good boy all day long." :littleang |

Hello and welcome to YT. . . She is adorable. Congrats. Another Nov baby. Galen was born the 6th |
Thanks for the advice. She is currently being crated. In one week, she already recognizes that putting on my coat means I'm leaving. She starts whimpering and barking as soon as I put it on. I can hear her barking as I leave. I don't say anything to her before leaving, but she keeps an eye on me if I'm up and moving around. I bought a pen for her, but don't know if leaving her in the pen (36 X 36) would make it harder to housebreak her. I so new to all this. I just pray that she is not barking the entire time I'm gone. I live in an apartment complex and am a little worried that someone will complain if she is. I listen at the door when I come home and don't hear her, so maybe she gives up after a few minutes. |
Just Adorable! |

Of course your "mileage may vary" but I started Bentley off in a playpen with a pad in one spot. Playpen was always accessible when I was at home so he had a "designated" potty area while I was home or away. He took to it right away. He's now got a 2 section crate that has bed area and pee pad area, and I have now got fencing around the one end for him as a play yard. He's got 95% accuracy in just the few days he's been in the new setup while I'm away. 99% while I'm at home. The couple of accidents while we are at home I can easily attribute to me either not paying attention or "I'm so excited I need to pee now". At this point he's pee pad training. Will work on outside when the weather is nice again, but since I live in an apartment I prefer his main potty to be pee pad. Beside on the couple of outside walks we have attempted he is not keen on the idea of being outside and on the ground. He loves outside but rather be carted around like the little prince he is. lol |
Grats, she is adorable and I can see you really are making sure things are right :) |
Hi and welcome to YT"! Your girl is just adorable! Congrats on adding to your family and look around on this site as it has lots to offer new owners, like you and me!! Have fun and again welcome!! |
She's adorable! Welcome to YT and to yorkie mommyhood! :) |
Beautiful name for a gorfeous little girl! Absolutely precious....My concern was about the collar, but I see you have already addressed that issue! Two great books that I recommend to all my new owners are "Yorkies For Dummies" and "Yorkshire Terriers: A Smart Owners Guide"....they are great books and will be a much appreciated addition to your "Yorkie library". About her ears....I would shave the hair from the outside top of her ears....usually this is only done 1/3 of the way down...but at this age, I like to take it down to about 1/2 of the ear...this lightens the load on those ears and will allow them to stand easier. Also be aware, it is not unusual for these babies ears to go up and down as they teethe,,,,,just keep the hair off the ear and they should go right back up. As far as the hair on the inside of the ear, the groomer will sprinkle a little "drying" powder inside that allows them to grasp those hairs and pull them out...it doesnt hurt them at all...but like some have already said, some people allow this, orther do not like it. I like the hair removed from inside the ear if there is really alot in there...if there is just a little fine hair inside the ear, I wouldnt worry about it, but I have a couple that are really hairy and I dont like all that in there...dark, moist areas create issues! |
Precious Congratulations! Once you have had a yorkie, you always want more! I have three right now and that is my limit, LOL. She is a doll! |
Welcome to YorkieTalk! Your pup is adorable :) I would just trim the hair on the ears, you don't have to pull the hair inside... That won't help them stand up. |
