Aww, I love happy endings. I too have an older girl who was a stray. Bringing her home has been such a joy! With a lot of missing teeth, she may need you to soften her kibble with some water if it hurts her to eat or you see her having trouble chewing it. I think she looks like a Silky, but I am no expert. Please have your vet check her over as others have recommended. I'd get her started on a good grain free kibble, and see if that helps with the red yeast staining I see. The weepy eyes and runny nose are most likely from the rotten teeth that she had. That should clear up as her little mouth heals. If her eyes continue to weep, try Gerber water (Walmart, water section, $1. a gallon). Sorry, I know you didn't ask for any of this advice, but I just get so excited to know what a wonderful life your new baby is about to have with you and your dear, compassionate hubby. The world needs more good people like you. Bless you for giving this sweet girl a home where she will be loved and cared for. This story has me in tears.....such a happy ending! I know that you have received a lot of wonderful advice so I hope it's okay for me to add one as well. :cool: ;) When I put my furkids on ACANA dog food, you would not believe the difference in their coats!!!! I would post pictures on Yorkietalk and people would send me private messages to ask what I feed because their coats are so shiny. ACANA is more expensive than other kibble, but my guys do not eat as much of it as when they were on a cheaper food so it equals out. But I swear, the difference in their appearance is INCREDIBLE and you will see the change within a couple of weeks. Plus, my guys have so much more energy on this food.

By the way, she is adorable! :) I am very excited for her, you and your husband.

What a story with a happy ending. So glad you were rescued by this little girl. Hope she continues to thrive in your household and brings you years of love and happiness.

This little girl was meant to be with you guys........I just know it! An angel sent to you guys to fill a sad void, and to be helped as well. What a wonderful husband you have. I had a little foster that looked exactly like her, thin coat and all and with just proper food and love, he ended up with a beautiful thicker coat. I love to watch them blossom like that. Bless you both for giving this baby a loving home to live out her precious life. Keep us up to date on her progress.

I've been calling her my Gremlin. I was stroking her hair lastnight while she was falling asleep and I had all her forehead hair spiked up like a gremlin. She looked so cute.

We will make sure that she thrives as much as she can. Our old dog never knew a bad day in his life and that's what we want for her for the rest of her life. Nothing but happiness with the job of keeping the couch warm.;)

I'll take all the advice I can get. Is this a brand from the vet or store bought?

Right now she's on Science Diet which was given to us by the pound.

As far as expense goes, anything I feed this 8lb'er is going to be cheaper than feeding the Dobi we used to have. I didn't even know how much to feed Petunia and had to read the bag. It's like crumbs compared to the big boy.:D

We'll be asking the vet lot's of questions! And thank you for freely giving advice.

Her eyes and nose seem to have already cleared up. She's much cleaner already. When we first brought her home they were full of boogers and moisture.

Because of her newly extracted teeth I did buy some soft, canned food. But she didn't like it. And chose the hard soft. She's chewing it okay. I didn't notice any problems and I was looking.

She is so lucky to have you and your husband:)

Yeh, the weeping eyes and nose were 100% caused by the rotten teeth. Her poor little mouth must feel so much better already. I can't imagine trying to eat with 5 toothaches. The runny eye problem can also be due to her diet. You can buy ACANA at a pet food store....we buy ours from a local doggy boutique. I am a firm believer in feeding a high quality food....you will see a great difference in her overall appearance and her energy level. :)

I feed ACANA and Love it! Riley does Best on it. I have switched
brands but always end up going back to ACANA. He just finished a
bag of ACANA/Pacifica and last night I bought a bag of the Duck
and Bartlett Pear. Am excited to see how he does on that.

I do Nature's Variety raw organic chicken for breakfast and the
ACANA Kibble, for dindin. He has been doing Awesome on that
combo!! :thumbup: :D

We found little Fizz roaming the streets matted and ill too. We were not so lucky as you. Little Fizz was very ill and left us far too soon...but they get inside you...I believe Fizz came to show me what a yorkie is and how loving they are. I rescued two more. Max and Titus...not a day goes by that I don't think about Fizz and how he opened the door to these little loves.

Sounds like she's already so attached and settling in beautifully. Your story brings tears to my eyes. :clapsmile

My guys thrive on ACANA as well. :) They are currently on a combo of two different flavors (Wild Prairie and also the Lamb & Okanagan Apple). Another great kibble is Fromm (my guys love the Beef Frittata).

If I could give you and your hubby a ginormous hug right now, I would. This is one of the sweetest happy endings ever :love:. It brings tears to my eyes.

I hope you post lots about her as she turns into your spoiled little girl...I'd love to see all the heartwarming changes she goes through. Sounds like she has you both wrapped around her paw already.

She's so sweet - and I'm so glad she found you for a new family.

She has a vet appointment this evening so I'll get an overall health status on her. My main concern right now is her hair loss. She continues to loose small balls of hair. I put them in a zip lock so the vet can see what she's lost in a weeks time.

I stopped by a groomer yesterday and made her an appointment for Friday. I guess I'm gonna go with what's she got. And shave the top of her back which is already loosing so much hair. And keep it longer on her belly. With a trim around the face, butt, and legs.

Congratulations on finding Petunia! She certainly needed your help, home, and love from the sounds of it. I, too, LOVE how she changed your perception of small dogs...Brody and Mia did that for DH as well. Yorkies have the power to paw-wrap even the unsuspecting! lol

With all the issues she had when your DH found her, the hair loss may just be continuing temporarily until she is healed better and her nutritional deficit is vanquished or considerably improved.

You also said she was wearing a shirt when your DH found her...so...if she likes clothes, you can just dress her up while her coat grows back and decide later how to keep her hair...what style you like best on her. Brody and Mia LOVE their clothes...and they are so cute wearing them.

I'm so glad your hubby changed his mind! She looks so much better cleaned up. And she looks all Yorkie to me! :D

She might have an allergy, or picked up fleas while she was roaming around. Both can cause hair loss. If so, the vet should be able to give you something to help. Give us an update when you can!

Our Vet thinks Petunia's more like 10 yrs. old.

She is missing a bunch of teeth. It's not cataracts in her eyes but scratches on her corneal lenses. Her incision from being spayed is healing good. And her heart is good.

Since we never had a flea problem with our other dog, we don't anticipate one with Petunia either. So, for now, the Vet gave a sample of Heart Guard to see if she'd eat it. (She did), and in a month from now, well see if fleas are a problem, or if she just needs Heart Guard to prevent worms.

I explained to the Vet that the first 2 days she was here with us, she would squat many times when she went outside but nothing would come out. She looked like a male dog trying to mark. She'd pee once, but then kept walking around squating all over the place.

She did an ultrasound on her and said her bladder was thickened, but there wasn't any urine in there for her to get a sample.

She thinks she may have a UTI and prescribed her antibotics. In 2 weeks I need to get a urine sample from Petunia for further testing.

Her hair loss has her stumped. Visually, there doesn't appear to be any itchy spots, flea problems, or infections. It almost seems natural that she doesn't have hair there on her back. The Vet said she's 'tanned', and can tell it's been like this for some time. She also doesn't have any hair on her ears, and her feet are basically hair free as well. They look like rat feet.:animal-pa

She said it's possible that she may be mixed with Chinese Cresent. She said Petunia reminded her of another patient. The Vet tech mentioned the name. So, IDK, maybe she'll dig around and give me more information on her potential mix.

I showed her the zip lock bag full of hair she's lost just this week with us. She said give it 2 months. Let things settle down. She's been through so much, is in a new home, etc all. If it continues she'll do some testing.

I also got to see the attack-dog side of the little ankle biter while were there, lol. She was ready trying to hop outta my arms and wanted a piece of a big dog. It was the funniest thing.
