My huge 3 year old 1 Attachment(s) Im new to yorkie talk, but i have had 1 and a half yorkies for 3 years. My Tuli weights about 10- 13 pounds she's enormous and hopefully she will be breeding soon. This is her a a pup she's akot bigger now but i can only upload this one picture right now, so enjoy |
Welcome to YT !:) So you want to breed your girl ? Have you done ALL the research & has she & ALL of her relatives back for years been health checked & tested for any congenital & hereditary defects ? Is she AKC registered ? There are Many things to consider before Breeding your girl, if you are not breeding for the betterment of the breed then you need to seriously reconsider breeding |
I have had her checked out plenty of times and shes perfectly healthy. I bought her from a place that i now know mis- treats their dogs, and may even falsify documents, so i am questionable about her past. Im not breeding to sale the puppies. I want a boy, and a chance to start over and do tings right, also i want her to know what it feels like to be a mother. Am i in the wrong? |
What is considered betterment of the breed? |

Don't breed. |

We have a "Teapot" club here full of proud members over the Yorkie breed standard of 7 pounds. One of the most important questions to ask yourself when considering breeding is why you want to breed your dog. I love my boys and think they are adorable, but they are "pet" quality, slightly out of standard or ideal. Therefore, they are neutered. To me, "betterment of the breed" means choosing the best representatives of the breed to reproduce. That way the best genes are passed along. There are so many dogs in this country without a home. An alarming number are euthanized for no other reason than being homeless. That is one of the many reasons many dog lovers support selective breeding. |
Not you maximo the other person |
I see you answered the question of why you want to breed your girl. Go to the breeder section here to talk to experienced breeders. What they have to tell you may change your mind about wanting your girl to experience motherhood. |
Wow, I never called you a name (pretty sure you called me an a**hole) and yet you spout off about me being condescending?? Pot meet kettle. |
hanifduncan, check out the breeder section for info on genetic testing and all that goes into breeding before you make up your mind. Best wishes. |
Ok i understand. I have beend studying this three years i didnt just wake up and decide to have puppies. I love my dog and i will love her pups. She might not be pretty but she has plenty of other charecteristics and abilities that make her special. I also have a 5 pound yorkie named india who would be a perfect canidate for bettering the breed, because she is small and obedient, but my tuli is physically superior to every yorkie that i know she is strong, atheletic, and affectionate. Are these not traits that i want my pups to have? Should i only want a small, petite, show dog looking yorkie? |
It take more then just a cute, sweet, and smart dog for breeding. What if she has babies and one a blue born? What if she needs a c-section? What if the pups she delivers end up getting liver shunts or an lp? Are you prepared to drop up to $6,000 on an emergency c-section for your baby? Since you said you've read up on things, I'm sure you know that toy breeds are notorious for needing c-sections, so I'm hoping that if you go on with this, despite the many people on this forum that will tell you not to, that you've already started saving up money or applied for care credit. |

I have more replies that need to be reviewed before they get posted, but one of tem includees an apology for the a**hole comment, hopefully we can finish this conversation like adults. But my theory is that maybe since she is so big she should have a succesful delivery, and yes i am prepared to do and pay whatever it takes for my tuli. |

Bottom line i want my tuli to be a mother. I dont care about the betterment of the breed when it come to her, just because she isnt tiny like other dogs does not mean that she doesnt deserve to reproduce. I know that alot of dogs sre homeless and end up dead but i want to keep the pups so they will have a home and they will be loved by my entire family and will be well taken care of. |
Genetic testing and studying previous generations in your girl's background. |

Thank you, for your support. She actually is with Momo her hopefully soon to be mate right now, she stopped bleeding on tuesday, but for some reason he isnt interested in her yet, she is doing everything in her power to get his attention but he looks annoyed. And yes he is a perfect image of health and the most well behaved yorkshire i have ever met |
You may want to try to find a breeder/mentor in your area that could educate you and help you answer any questions you have about what is best for your girl if you go forward with breeding her. Some people on here just dont understand that all breeders had to start somewhere, you are not just born a breeder. Most members on YT just want to be certain that the animals health and wellbeing are being put first. Than there are some who just want to cause trouble. There is a lot of great advise in other simular threads about breeding and whelping that you can also look up. Good LUck! |
That is a great i dea. Thank you i will look for a breeder in my area today, im sure that they will be able to tell me everythin that i need to know, because its easy to read what to do but to accualy do it is a completly different story, again thank you, and i think that i am glad to be a member of the yorkie talk community |
Hello and welcome to Yorkie Talk, I'm glad that you are going to get help from a vet with the breeding process..I wish the best for your babies... |
Welcome to YT:) I see you've already gotten some good advice and was just wondering something. In one of your posts, you said you wanted a boy puppy. What happens if she has all girls (it does happen)? Would you then breed her again, trying for that boy? For what it really costs to raise a healthy litter, you could buy a very nice quality boy puppy from a reputable breeder. I bought my Luna from a pet store and she's from a puppymill. There's a website where they'll trace your puppy and tell you where they came from. PetShopPuppies.com, they found the mill where my baby had her rough start. She's got LP, seriously jacked up teeth, and has always been delicate. Please think before you do this:love: |
Your dog would be very fine not being a mother and if you really love her don't take the chance of her dying and just go get a boy puppy from a good breeder. If you cant afford a puppy from a good breeder then you cannot afford to breed your female! |
