Yorkie mix -- What is it's other part? 1 Attachment(s) I just got a 7 week old Yorkie mix. I only saw the mom who is a Yorkshire Terrier, but not sure who the dad is. He's 7 weeks, but I think its interesting he's not as furry as a Yorkie should be, right? I am not sure what else it's mixed with. Any ideas? |
Looks like beagle to me. |

So I have no idea what kind of person you got your puppy from, but I sure would question them. It's cute, but not likely any Yorkie at all. |
I would say it is part Min Pin, Chi, or Doxy, which are all very short hair breeds. Therefore it would be possible that this puppy will never grow long hair like a Yorkie. It all depends on which genes it inherited. Very cute though! I am sure he will bring you so much joy. |
1 Attachment(s) We met the mom and saw the litter - and the mom definitely looks like a full Yorkie with long hair. We didn't see the dad. I think it might be mixed Chiuauha although the woman claims the dad is a Silky. Here's a better picture. |

he is adorable. He definatly looks part yorkie, i seen a little puppy come to our vet clinic that was a yorkie/ dachshund mix that looked just like that! But i also seen a yorkie/chihuahua mix that looked alot like that too! Super cute whatever it is! |
Nothing like a puppy to make me smile :) I vote for Chihuahua / Yorkie /with a pinch of Jack Russel. Very cute. |
I think doxie/chi. I don't see yorkie at all. Poor thing to be taken from mom so early too1 |
My guess would be Doxie, or Beagle or Chi mix. |
yorky/ doxy Such a cute little boy. I say Yorkie/ doxy. But it makes no difference, he is so cute. If you really want to know, do a DNA on him.If you do, make sure all breeds that are possible, are on the list, on the test. It is a shame he was taken from his Mom so early. |
rat terrier, chi, or dachsund and some Yorkie. |
Looks to me like a beagle/dachsund/chihuahua and maybe some miniature pinscher or not, I donno. The tail is docked though unless it was born that way? Possible it could have some yorkie in it, but maybe the yorkie "mom" was acting as a surrogate mommy? Look at the pups paws, if they are big, it will tell you it probably has some kind of "larger" dog in it than a yorkie. They look to me in the picture to be larger paws, but pics can be deceiving lol. Whatever he is, he is a real cutie. Looks very mellow from the picture and so teeny tiny and fragile looking! Adorable! |

Meant to say he is adorable whatever he is |
chihuahua |
Looks like doxy to me, but if you don't know who the daddy is, it could be lots of things. Can't assume that the daddy is even purebred, it could be a mixture of lots of things, who knows? |
He is adorable!! My guess right off was beagle 'cause of the ears and the large paws?!? I have a female beagle that looks quite a bit like this one in the face shape/ears/paws~but it's definitely yorkie colouring!! He is a real sweet looking puppy!!:) |
Thanks for the responses everyone. Do you think a vet would be able to tell me what's the mix? - it is possible (likely) the mom could not be a yorkie purebreed. I love it no matter what he is - I'm just so curious. I asked a puppy trainer and she said he looks part Beagle to her but we won't be able to tell till he's older. The hair on his face is short, but on the body its a couple inches of long black hair - straight and silky. His nails aren't clear...they are black (not sure why they look clear in the picture). He's just a tiny little thing. Looks big in the second picture, but he can fit inside my husband's shoes he's so tiny. I love him to pieces already. |
3 Attachment(s) For all the non-believers that this dog is a yorkie mix, I offer proof of how yorkie mix puppies can look very different from their mommy. 6 years ago, a woman surrendered a pregnant yorkie to a shelter where I was volunteering. I saw her the day she arrived, saw the puppies soon after birth, and then adopted one of the litter. There is no question the mommy is a purebred Yorkie, but her babies look NOTHING like yorkies. Best guess is that the daddy was a Shih Tzu. I'm posting three pictures, one of the mommy, one of the puppies at 3 weeks of age, and what our dog looks like now. The last picture taken of our dog "at work" as a therapy dog visit at a local nursing home. To the OP, it might be worthwhile to have your dog genetically tested so that you and your vet can be on the lookout for health problems that are common to your dog's breeds. |
Very cute puppy! I vote for yorkie/chihuahua, although sorta see beagle as well. |
I would guess chihuahua or dachshund or both LOL? Too cute! |
I'm going with Chihuahua. I have a friend with two Chiuahua/Yorkie crosses and they both look like this. The paws look rather large for either of those breeds, though, so maybe a third breed? |
Just hope it wasn't a great dane (j/k). he's really cute! |
I would say Chihuahua/Min Pin/Jack Russell.Definetly a very cute dog no matter what he is! |

What a cutie. Enjoy your puppy! Your vet should be able to tell you what the puppy is mixed with. |
Maybe Beagle? |
Looks just like a little beagle pup to me -- sorry but I don't see the yorkie at all. Since you saw the mom and she is a yorkie, I would guess maybe she is not full yorkie either. But sometimes a pup takes on all of the characteristics of one parent or another. That is why a trustworthy breeder is so important -- appearances can deceive. If a mixed breed pup comes out looking like one breed in particular, next thing you know someone is calling them that and maybe even trying to get them registered with the fly-by-night registries. Not anything to do with your situation -- sorry I sort of went off on a tangent there. Old pet peeve! One thing I can say for sure -- you have a sweet looking pup there! Some of the best pets are mixed breed babies. So, I would not worry what all is mixed in there -- just love the little one! |
I just came upon this video yesterday and thought of your little guy!! To me they look quite a bit alike~it says this puppy is a miniature pinscher!! Maybe that's what it is mixed with?!? |
