TOTORO! My new 10 week old! Have Photos & Qs Guess this is where we show off some pics :D Lol in some his head looks giant compared to his body.. little bobblehead :) I also have some questions about his appearance: 1. What type of coat do you think he'll have based on the pictures? It's wavy and feels soft on his body. 2. Weighs in at 3.1 lbs, 10 weeks old, think he'll stay within the standard? Breeder told me none of her pups went over 4lbs and that he's had his growth spurt.. I think she's full of it.. :D Does he look like he'll be a big boy from the photos? 3. Also, have you ever seen puppies with their ears down like his? Will they stay down? I'd love either way! :) Here's links to his pics :) http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/pic...ctureid=104361 http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/pic...ctureid=104358 http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/pic...ctureid=104356 http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/pic...ctureid=104220 http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/pic...ctureid=104360 http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/pic...ctureid=104218 http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/pic...ctureid=104357 |
He's JUST PRECIOUS!!!! Congrats!!! My Tulips ears were floppy...until she was around 12 weeks and then they started standing up....if you want his ears up and they are still floppy you can find out how to tape them up so you can set the cartilage...but for now he looks perfect!! His fur looks alot like my Daizys...and she has the cottony double coat! You can double his weight at 12 weeks..and that can put you pretty close to his adult weight...He'll probably be 6 pounds + full grown...but that's just PERFECT!! Congrats he's just adorable!! |

Tulip is sooo cute, I just looked at her pics in her album!! I did hear about taping them but I couldn't bear to look at him like that even though it'd be harmless and knowing him, he wouldn't stand for it, he's a tough guy :) I just wanted to know if others have seen ears like his at his age and if they'd stood up on their own :D |

Aww I love Daizy's ears! I'm torn :D I'll just have to see how things go and which I prefer for him and which he prefers, I might shave 1/3 and if they still go dont up then maybe it wasn't meant to be for him hehe |
What a cutie! LOVE THE NAME!!! hehehe :D 1. he will have cotton coat...just like Carmel! It will be hard when he gets matted so make sure you brush it often. Otherwise, it becomes a disaster! 2. Yeah, he will definitely be over 4 lbs. I think you should look up the growth chart. Carmel was not even 2 lbs at 10 weeks of age and he's now 6 lbs full grown!! You never know though! Emma was 2.5 lbs at 12 weeks and she's around 4 lbs now. 3. I think his ear will be down...Carmel's is sometimes down (the hair is heavy). Right now, it's at one up and one down. haha Either way, I don't care, I love him too much to care! :p Also, your baby is a CUTIE!! I love his tail! I also like his tag a lot!! Super cute!! It fits him perfectly! |

a fellow canadian! totoro is adorable!!!! congrats! continue posting pics of totoro! i love looking at puppy pictures! makes me miss the days when mickey was a puppy! <3 1. its kind of hard to tell with the pictures. im not expert on coats but people say if its cool when you touch it then it'll be silky coat if not it'll be cotton coat. its best to ask your breeder. however if the dog will be a silky coat it still get very knotted. i remember when mickey was a puppy his coat would get so knotted he & i'd be crying as i combed it out. he grew up to be a beautiful silky coat 2. standard is between 5-7pounds i think. you can google yorkie growth charts. according to a chart i found your puppy should be closer to 8pounds? they stop at 2.4 lbs and that is 6.5-7pounds. however this is just a guideline. your pup can grow bigger or smaller :) 3. Yes ive seen many puppies with their ears down! some will stay down and some will pop up. my new puppy when i first met her at 5weeks point and her ears popped up while all of her siblings had their ears down. mickey's ears popped up without taping or trimming it. however mickey's half sister casey's ears remained flopped down. super cute! |
It wouldn't hurt to trim the hair on the ears. Sometimes the extra weight makes it harder for them to stand up. I've never had to tape either, but I hear that's an option if you want to improve your chances of them standing up. She is absolutely adorable. LOL, oops, I wrote this earlier and forgot to post. By the time I'd posted, others had same suggestion! |
Thank you everyone for the replies! :D Very helpful Now, if his coat will be cottony instead of silky does that mean he will be a shedder? Or do all yorkies have no undercoat, and only lose hairs through brushing, etc.? I may make a board of this in general chat if people miss my post :D |
You little guy is so cute. He's right up there with my Kody. At last weigh in (which was last Thursday) my Kody weight 3.8lbs. He will be 12 weeks on Feb. 22. So I'm thinking he may around 7-8lbs full grown. He has another wellness check appt. this weekend so I can do the 12 week guesttimate regarding full grown weight at that time. I'll have to post some recent photos of him. I tried taking some this morning, but he wouldn't keep still. Also Kody's ears arent standing either - they've come up some though. What type of trimmers would you use to trim off the 1/3rd also - do you use a measuring tape? |
Aww he's just adorable, welcome to yorkietalk |
