Puppies Born Last Night 1 Attachment(s) SEPTEMBER 29, 2005 @ 11:50 P.M. :littleang :littleang :littleang Hi Everyone, Just want to share this experience with everyone. I hope it's helpful to those out there that want to breed. About 5:00 PM Sept. 29th Lily Belle started acting uncomfortable After only 20 minutes of hard labor, a puppy presented her head only about 6:00PM. After 30 mins she went back into the birth canal,6:30. Lily's labor stopped. I stayed calm for about 2hrs, okay that was enough. I called my Vet, we meet at the office at 10:00PM. Still no more contractions. He looked at Lily, said she is in distress, Her color was bad and she was slightly dehydrated. He put an IV in her, then told me she needed a C-Section, one of the pups seemed stuck and Lily stopped labor. Lily and the pups will not survive if we let her try normally. At 11:30PM the C-Section started. Two pups were in distress. The 1st one was difficult for the Vet, Her head was stuck in the canal, but he got her. Her tongue was blue grey with a slight pink, after 1 hr she was revived. The 2nd pup need stimulation after 1/2 hr he was okay. The 3rd (Moose) was fine. I have always was been prepared for this, and this was the 1st C-Section for my Yorkies. Just to let everyone out there know. It doesn't hurt to read, read, read about ALL the PROBLEMS that may happen during Whelping. All is fine and doing well. Girl 4.9oz, 1st Boy 5.9oz, 2nd Boy 5.5oz Enjoy the pics |

1 Attachment(s) One more pic to share Lily Belle and her Puppies ( still learning about pic size ) |
OMGosh, they are darling...I can't get over how tiny they are at birth. I just love 'em. |
Aww They are adorable and im so happy mommy and babies are all doing good. Was wondering why it took so long for the vet to start the c-section? from 6:00-11:30 is a long time. |
Glad to hear that all is doing well. I don't know how these dogs do it...the ones that have to have a c-section and then nurse where they're the sorest! Such troopers. Thank you for posting this. It's something that all people must consider if they want to start breeding! |
congratulations on the litter. they are beautiful! sorry your Lily Belle had to go through that, but she looks like a good mommy! |
As I wrote she stopped contraction about 6:30, and that's not common. We didn't get nervous until about 8:00, that's when I called the Vet. Maybe I should have called earlier, but then again she wasn't having regular hard Labor either. Infact she never yelp or nothing. I didn't get to the office until 10 and 1 1/2 hrs later, after examing and evaluting he started. Now it took about 30 mins to prepare her. I thought everything went smoothly and as quick as he possibly can. |
Congrats! Congrats on the new babies....they are precious! I am so glad both mommy and babies fine and doing good! Keep the pictures coming..... |

Thanks for asking, they All are doing really good. Lily is eating, drinking and being a very protective Mommy. The pups are sqeaking, eating, holding up there heads. They are acting like newborns. It's as if last night didn't happen. We go tomorrow for post operative exam. Lily infact snuggled with me awhile ago. I had to take a nap today. I'll update you all with pics maybe tomorrow. Thanks for letting me share my new additions. |

Thank you, very much for your concern. :thumbs up |
Hi and congratulations on the new litter. Was this her first? I didn't even know they could nurse after the c-section....wow...incredible...I mean I nursed my baby after a c-section but my anatomy is a little different....LOL What part of California are you in and what did the vet charge for the c-section? If you don't want to answer that I will understand...I am just curious. |

I don't mind answering. I'm sure everyone who is considering breeding would like an idea of costs. I live North of LA and the C-section was $914.03. This was Lily's 1st litter. I was surprised my Vet let me take Lily home. Then again he commented that she would probably do better at home instead of staying there. Thanks for your concern. |
Gracy, glad to hear things turned out okay. I know how scary things can get first hand. Sometimes we aren't that sucessful. But I am glad that your female is okay as well as the pups. They are some cuties..... :p |
I am so happy that the situation worked out well even with the c-s.. You have shared a very typical whelping in these babies. My Biewties were hard to manage too. But, we managed with Oxy and and very old nurse (that would be moi) pulling and coaching and oraying, lordy, was I praying. Your babies are large enough to do well and I look forward to seeing more pics.. |
Just checking in to see if there was any new pictures of the babies. I will keep checking. |
Gracy, first of all a huge CONGRATULATIONS to Lily and you on the birth of the new babies. They are beautiful!!! And thank you for sharing your story. I love happy endings! The puppies ARE beautiful, beautiful, beautiful!!!!! I hope to see many more pics of the little ones growing up. Don't you just love puppies? |

I'll try later today to take more pics. I have to take the pups & Lily to the Vet this morning. Just been too busy caring for Lily, the pups, and my other animals. Poor Poor Woody (the daddy) and Grandma Lulu. :fallen: Lily is very protective, won't let anyone in my bedroom. I have never seen her so mean, Yet we understand. So the gates are up to keep her at a safe distance from the other dogs. I'll get some update pics soon. Thanks for all the nice notes and concerns. :yorkietal |
