Pita's pet Skunk Actually, Fifi was MY birthday present, but Pita tolerates her well, I can't say she likes her but they don't fight. They are so cute in this picture, don't you think. (yes, Pita has a skunk costume, I need to get pictures) |
Here's the picture 1 Attachment(s) It's been so long since I 've done this i forgot how! Attachment 249350 |
i totally want a skunk too!!!.. i was in clermont.florida and was about to buy one for my birthday...he was teh sweetest thing and loved my attention..I just did not know if I could give him the attention he needed. How are you keeping up? I love Fifi!...how is it raising her? do you have to play with her feet alot? and do you keep her in the box ? (i've heard thats what you do ??) im so interested! |
Fifi lives in the laundry room with a gate across the door when we are not home. This is for her own safety cuz she will find every nook and cranny to squeeze into. She is very loveable to me but she is very skittish around new people. I was surprised at that because I didn't think she would know the difference. My main problem with her is keeping her weight down, she loves to eat! And i swear she gains weight on air. (like me:)) I have been told she is bulking up with for winter. (So am I HA) She is a great pet, different than a cat or dog. She goes in her litterbox but I have one on the other side of the house too cuz she won't run back to it. Once I figured out her habits I was able to put boxes where she wants to go and so she has 2 but she only goes twice a day if I stay on her feeding schedule. You have to be careful where you live if you get one, not all states allow them. I live in FL and I have a permit for her. It's something to do with them not being able to be vaccinated for rabies. Also if you get one make sure you know a vet that will treat it. I love my Yorkie but she defected and decided she was my husband's dog. So now it's him and Pita and me and Fifi. We are quite the hit when we go to Petsmart. Amazingly Fifi is very good at Petsmart as long as I hold her. For as skittish as she is around new people in the house she loves to go out and doesn't mind the attention. Otherwise she just follows me around the house. I love her! Sorry about the skunk ranting Yorkiepeople! I love my Yorkie too! |
I can't say I ever knew anyone with a pet skunk.... do they do anything?.... fetch a ball? :D Thanks for sharing!.... very interesting... and cute!! ;) |
She plays with me like a cat would but no, she doesn't fetch anything except marshmallows. |
I love that picture. I just showed my fiancee and he was cracking up. He now wants a skunk. :D |
I've always wanted a skunk. Pita, and Fifi looks so cute together. |
wowie i had no idea skunks could be pets. fifi is soooo cute next to pita!. under what conditions do they spray? i ask only b/c that's the only thing that i knew about them before, that they spray and you better run b/c the smell is hard to get out. lol. but that's a pretty ignorant view i realize, and i'd love to know more about life with miss fifi |
I had skunks under my porch in NH. I had a new litter of babys to watch grow every summer and loved it. They would eat my cat food and found out that was bad for them so I started feeding them fruit, veggies and all kinds of nuts and seeds. They were so much fun to watch. They showed up on my front stoop every night at dusk looking for their dinner. |

That is a SUPER sweet picture! My uncle use to have a pet skunk....said it was the best pet he have ever had! |
Fifi is descented, she had her glands removed before I got her I had to get her spayed at 4 months and it was the second scariest day of my life! (the first was when Pita got spayed) It's funny cuz when she gets mad her tail goes up if she's really pissed it will plume out, if she's REALLY mad, like if you don't put cheese on her salad, she will turn her butt to you and stomp her front feet like she is going to spray. When she is calm her tail stays down and relaxed. It's hilarious, it was funnier when she was little. She was so tiny when I first got her at 5 weeks old, now she's 5 months and weighs around 15 pounds! Maybe it's the cheese on her salad??? |

You have a pet Skunk?! I've never seen a Skunk as a pet before, had no idea you could actually do that! How cool is that?! She's so pretty! Gosh, how incredible! Jess :heart to |
15 lbs! thats bigger than my sheltie! is he a happy pet all around? do you need to anything especially special for her ? is it true about touching their feet all the time ? |
 Fifi is beautiful ... her fur looks the texture of mink!! I know she must be so much fun! :) Our neighborhood borders undeveloped land and there is a 4 ft. stucco wall that runs the entire length of the property. I can peek over the top and there's wildlife over there. Last winter we had deer prints on our patio in the snow! I would love to see them. There's also a skunk that lives out there .... I peek out there all the time just hoping to see it. I know when it is out there because I can smell it! :p The weekend of the air show, the Blue Angels were here and flew really low over the rooftops. Patrick was across the street at a neighbors and came running in to close a window ... he said he guessed the planes got so low, they scared the skunk!! Yep ... it was mad!! ;) |

Fifi and the cheese theory cracks me up? Another ignorant question -- do you have to worry about her biting or clawing like a cat? |
We were out at the golf course when my son was 3 and he saw a skunk and went running to it he thought it was a cat LOL thank god it didnt spray him. Yours is adorable! |
Okay well I TOTALLY want a pet skunk now!!! How COOL!!!!!!!!! How much are they? How long do they live? Lets see more pics! :) |
Fifi is VERY happy! She's in my room with me now going thro my purse. She doesn't chew cords or anything, she could do damage with her claws but she doesn't. She sleeps and eats mostly. She will play rough with my hands but I put a sock or a puppet on so she can play with me like that. She is a bit overweight. She loves to eat so much and so it's really hard not to overfeed her. I am hoping that she loses some around springtime. In the wild they would be bulking up for winter when food is scarce. She also will get more lethargic as the time goes on through winter. (so I'm told) I live in Florida but Fifi's inherited genes don't know that. I love having her. She is different from a dog or a cat but very cool. My husband didn't realize she would have to live inside when he bought her as a surprise for me for my birthday. I've always wanted a skunk. He is good about her as long as I don't let her steal his socks. She will collect things and take them into her bed so that it is more snuggly. Yes ,having a skunk is great!! |
That is so cute! What a pair. She doesn't try to escape over the gate when you put her away when you aren't home? Does she respond to her name like a dog would? |
She really can't climb that well, skunks front feet are very developed like bears, her back feet, not so much. She is very bottom heavy and thank god she can't climb the gate. She can go upstairs and things but she has trouble getting onto the couch herself. She does come when I call her, although today she didn't want to come out from under the bed so i waved a cold piece of pizza under there and POOF a skunk appeared! I gave her only a bite of it as a reward. I take her for walks outside or really i follow her around while she snuffles everything. I tried a dog harness on her but with her odd shape it really doesn't work very well so I put just a collar firmly behind her front legs and that works quite well, she doesn't feel confined and she can't get out of it as her but is so much bigger than her middle. She is very soft. I give her the occasional bath but she stays pretty clean and she doesn't shed very much which I was worried about! |
I would love to have a pet skunk! I have seen skunk shows on TV and the variety of colors is astonishing. I would love to have a totally white one. |
