Puppy's First Haircut Gone Bad!!! Before & After - Mommy's so upset! 3 Attachment(s) My baby Darwin went in for his very first grooming today with a groomer in town that everyone raves about. I specifically spoke with her about giving him a "trim" and keeping his face round and full, I like his beardy puppy look. I also wanted his hair on his body to be trimmed, not shaved. I picked him up at 5pm today absolutely horrified, he has the haircut of a schnauzer on his face, and his little body is completely shaved. I paid $53 for her to botch his pretty puppy fur, and now I'm afriad he'll never grow his puppy hairdo back ever again b/c she cut the hair around his eyes and his nose even though I told her not to. I am so upset, but I'm trying not to let him see me upset b/c he is still so loveable nontheless, and there's nothing I can do about it now, but do you think he'll ever look the same again? Should I take him back to her to have her fix his face? I'm so sad about my baby's haircut, what do you do when a groomer doesn't follow your instructions? The first pic is his before, and the other 2 are after the botched cut. |
So sorry to hear about his hair cut..when it happened to me I refused to pay for the grooming...the last question they asked me was "Do you want them trimmed?" I replied no and came back to find two butchered dogs...I only knew they were mine because they were happy to see me! I paid by check and then when I was in the car I really noticed the horrible job they did and I stopped payment on my check and called the place... and told them I wa not paying for the horrible job they did.... |
Oh gosh.. I'm sorry you weren't happy with it but I think he looks absolutly ADORABLE!!! Although I'm partial to shorter haircuts on Yorkies. |
Did your baby's hair grow back into its original shape? I've heard that once you start trimming the hair around the nose and eyes, you constantly have to keep it up. Will he ever have his "beard" look again? I don't know if I should stop payment on the check, she didn't do a bad job, she just didn't give him the cut I had asked for. I am definitely not going back that's for sure. I feel like a chain petstore would've done a better job for 1/2 the price. |
AWWWWW - he still looks adorable - and I really love his little face (both before and after) Don't worry - their hair grows back pretty quickly!! :p :p It's always a shock to see them after they've been groomed - which is why I starting grooming Sadie myself. |
I am so sorry you had to deal with a cut that you didn't want. One of the members here, suggested taking in a picture of the way you want it done. That way, you will both be on the same page. There are a lot of wonderful groomers out there. I don't now how many, but I believe we have some on here at YT. Maybe you could ask them for their opinion on what happened. I am learning to trim my own. Then I know they are treated well and cared for like I want them to be. Am I perfect at this? Nope.. I am still learning. But I am getting better. Your baby is adorable. I love his little face. He is cute in his after pictures also. Sorry this happened to you. |
When do they listen to what you want? It seems you can give instructions they will write it down and then do they ever go back and look at it? I just decided not to use groomers anymore due to that issue. I wouldn't want to take them back and give them another chance. I would let it grow out again if you want it that way. It will grow again it just takes awhile and the pain of working with that shorter hair around the eyes and nose area. But at least your dog looks good it wasn't a bad hair cut. |
Awww... :aimeeyorkI think he's adorable, but you should have gotten what you asked for... |
Thanks everyone for making me feel a little better. I know he is still adorable no matter what his hair looks like, I'm just still in shock I think. This whole experience really makes me want to do at home grooming. I just don't know if I'd be any good at it. I thought a professional would be better than me, but if she's going to mess him up anyway, I'd rather his hairdo be messed up b/c of my own fault. I have little clippers, but don't know if they're big enough to clip his body. How do you scissor cut their face? Do your babies hold still when you hold up shears to their cute faces? |
I am also sorry you didn't get the cut you wanted. I think he looks very handsome. I am partial though, because I like Taz cut like that. |
I do my lil at home....mainly cuz I dont' want to worry about what the groomer will do to her....I used to do hair, and think that working on another's hair, weather it be a dog or human....the person in charge of the razor/scissors has a mind of their own.....I have called around to a few groomers and told them that I want to be there with them when they groom my baby...and so far none have agreed to that...soooooooo till I can be there..supervising...I will to it at home... |

I cut Gracies hair... for the first time... that way you get what you want... and if your like me... you cant leave your baby ANYWHERE!!! lol its sooooooooooooooooooooo hard on me to leave her... lol but I just got SueNcricket2's dvd and its AWESOME!!! your little guy is ADORABLE!!! but I would have been sooooooooooooo upset if I saw that they did what I had asked them NOT to do... :(:thumbdown:thumbdown Im so sorry this happened to you! :( |
Ok you might not want to hear this, but he looks FABULOUS! I think she did a GREAT job! Im sorry you don't like it. Is this his first cut? When my boys first came back from their first groom, I was in SHOCK! I felt the same way soooo upset that they looked like little men, all grown up and not puppies anymore.... bbbuuuttt aaahhh they do grow up! :) He looks so handsome! :) |
Oh...I think he looks good! |
So sorry this happened to you! (But I think your furbaby is adorable either way!) There are so many horror stories about bad groomings out there! For this reason I'm scared to get Scooter groomed! I think I'm going to find a cute puppy cut here on YT, print off the picture and bring it in. I might even tell them that if I hate it, I will not pay for it! Maybe then they'll look closely at the picture and do what I want! |
sorry you are upset about the haircut! but i think its adorable...especially around the face...hehe... |
Awww, I think he looks darling!! HOWEVER, I recently had a very similar thing happen to us, and I even took in a picture. I was devestated. Oh well, it's been a few weeks and is really starting to grow now. I have since decided to groom at home and am very much enjoying it. I used the videos by Marcerella02 in the grooming sections to help me get started. About the hair around his eyes, yes, it's going to be an absolute pain to keep tamed while it's growing out, but it will be ok and you'll get through it. Just make sure you wet and comb it down (when it starts to grow out) every AM and PM. Good luck!!!!!!! He is such a cutie! |
I know exactly how you feel as it just happened to us too! I have a theory about these groomers. You explain to the groomer as you are about to leave your baby with them just what kind of cut you are wanting...hours later the groomer probably finally gets to your baby and has totally forgotten the discussion and proceeds with what she/he thinks is the cut best at the time. I think they have too many dogs to cut and totally forget the instruction. Your baby looks darling in his new cut...but I know, you miss the "old" look. |
He looks handsome to me...it will will grow back quicker than you think..it's just the after shock of after seeing him in his new cut..he is adorable! |

I laughed so hard for a few hours at how funny he looked. But everyone I've showed the pics to says he looks great for my first time... Mom and dad even agree that he looks sooo cute! I know the shock of expecting something totally different when seeing your baby. I know it's hard to deal with. But to be honest, hair isn't that important in the grande scheme of things.. As long as he loves you and you love him and you both are as healthy and happy as you can be... That's all that matters. Even if you had a bad haircut, you may feel bad about it but its not what's important in life. Being happy is important. Who cares about hair or nails or matching the purse with the shoes. Yes it may be nice to be able to do that, but it's just material. Love is forever. HUGS Brittany and Bentley:aimeeyork |

I think he looks fine. Everytime I think I have the courage to take Bernie to a groomer for a trim I read a horror story and get scared. I think I'll just leave him long, cause I'm really hard to please too! It's just hair, it will be back like you like it before you know it. |
Thanks everyone for being so supportive. I am slowly coming out of Darwin's post-groom shock. His big boy cut is growing on me a little bit more each time I look at him. BUT - I still do wish he had his yorkie puppy hairdo, and not a face cut like a schnauzer. The nice thing is he smells so nice, I don't think he smells this nice after I bathe him at home for so long - does anyone know what the groomers use to make the fresh scent last? Is it powder? He's also been itching and biting at his bum a lot since the groomer's....I find that very strange. |
.....he is adorable in all the pictures!!!! My husband keeps suggesting we cut my baby's hair and I keep telling him No Way....(at least not yet) I think that taking a picture next time is a great suggestion. The one thing about hair is....It will grow back. :) |
oh my gosh i think he looks adorable with his new cut!!! i know its not what you wanted but wow what a cutie:) |
I think he looks very cute :D i might feel the same way later as my 2 have a grooming App. today. I like my groomer but she is not the greatest grooming yorkies ;) |
i took my little girl, Bopsey, in at 3 months of age for her "Puppy package" or whatever they call it so the puppy gets used to grooming, and the groomer cut the hair between her eyes that would go in a top knot. never the less, little Bopsey is now over 9 months old and its still not long enugh to put in her top knot. the hair just hangs in her eyes:( |
Your little guy is adorable. Don't worry. Their hair grows pretty fast and will come back soon. It is good to have the grooming experience while he is young. I started taking Daisy in for baths and trims at an early age and she is so good now. We get to the groomer's and she runs in wagging her tail an jumps into the groomer's arms! So sorry they did not style it the way you wanted. That is very frustrating. Your pup is still very very cute! |
Darwin looks absolutely PRECIOUS!! Relax...his hair will grow back just fine, perhaps even better, a good trim never hurts, hehe. My girlie is 9mos and from the beginning, I decided to groom her myself. I'm not fond of the treatment from groomers, like an assembly line or something. Believe me, learning to do it is by trial and error for me, but getting better at it. It will grow out really fast, you will be so surprised. :) |
