Here's my SECRET!!! 4 Attachment(s) I got a baby girl! Her name is Tawny, she is a yorkie poo, and she's 5 weeks old! She will be 6 weeks old this coming Thursday. Now before anyone says anything let me explain why I got her so young. The people that I got her from tonight said if I didn't take her now they were taking her to the pound in the morning. They also said she was weaned and eating hard dry puppy food. Which I know is not true! Her little teeth are just now coming in. She weighs exactly 2 lbs. I am taking her to the vet in the morning. When I got her she was so covered with Fleas! I called my vet at home and made sure it was ok to give her the extra capstar pill I had. She told me to quarter it and give her a bath in Dawn Dish Detergent (which I knew that already, thanks you wonderful people of YT ;) ) Well I did all that when I got home and I counted the fleas as they fell off of her. So far the count is 125 Fleas!  Poor baby is still got fleas falling off of her! I have kept her and Little Man apart except for about 10 mins after her bath. I introduced them and then I put her in her pet carrier and took her to the bathroom which I have gated so Little Man can't go in there with her. I have soften, grinded up some puppy food for her and some fresh water in there with her. She ate a little bit and drinked a little bit. But I can tell already she will be a guzzle gut with the water. I did have to give her a little bit of Karo Syrup on my finger so she would try eat and drink. Little Man will go and check on her every 30 to 45 mins. It's so cute! Well ok I know ya'll want pictures so here ya go! All these were of course after her bath!;) Attachment 226152 Sorry it blurred...she moved! Attachment 226153 Just sitting there wondering where she is! Attachment 226154 Isn't that such a sweet face! Attachment 226155 The meeting of siblings! |
YAY what a sweet lil' secret! |
She's sooo cute. She's lucky to have you now, her forever mommy.:) |
What jerks. Thank you for taking this sweet baby and taking care of her! Congrats on your new addition! |
Congratulations! Thank you for taking care of her...125 fleas :eek:poor baby!! She is so sweet and cute. I absolutely LOVE the picture of her and Little Man!! How exciting! |
Aww she is so TINY!! At leats she looks super tiny in the 3rd pic with your hand in there, lol! What a cutie :) Was she the only one the people had? I hope so, it woud be terrible if her littermates were sent away tomorrow like she was going to be :( Some people have absolutely no heart :( I'm glad she has you now and a forver home :) |

I did however give the lady (that got the little boy) my number cause she is a new puppy owner and if she thought she couldn't handle him or if she had any kind of questions she could call me. I've been thru this before with Little Man, but its been so long ago. |
She's so adorable. What a pretty little face. I can't believe that, 125 fleas! on that poor little body! How horrible! I'm glad you found her and will take care of her. What a lucky little girl! |
Aww, she is so adorable!! That is wonderful that you rescued her. Were the previous owners the "breeders?" Keep an eye on her and make sure she stays hydrated and I would take her to the vet as soon as possible for a check up. Having that many fleas at such a young age would have made her anemic. You will want to deworm her as well since fleas can cause worms such as tapeworms. If you hadn't gotten her and took care of her, she could have died from the fleas alone, kudos to you for rescuing this sweet little girl!! |
what a sweetie. What a fab life she is going to have! Praying the next few weeks go smoothly and the fleas all die quickly |
Aweee, what an adorable lil one you have threre & I love her name! Ya, I'd say she's gonna need some extra time and eyes kept on her with her being so young and having had all those fleas and booted out from Mom so soon. Please keep us up to date on how she's doing. She's adorable!! CONGRATS! |
That is horrible! To be so young and covered in fleas...How do her gums look? Are they nice and pink or are they pale and tacky? She is adorable! Normally I'd be upset about a pup being taken so early, but this is a case where the pup was better off!!! I'm so glad you got her and are taking care of her!! I can't wait to see more pics of her! |

I have a yorkiepoo too! She is adorable! How great of you to take her! My Gabby is a yorkiepoo too and I got her at only 6 weeks (long story). And she was only 1 lb at that time (at 4 months she was 5.5lbs!). For the most part I haven't noticed any problems with her being taken so young. At first she would bite a lot, but got over that and is now the sweetest puppy. I used a playpen for her to sleep in and stay in while we were gone and that seemed to work well. She just recently moved to the kitchen! Oh and when she wasn't eating I would put some Nutrical gel in her food and that helped. Good luck with your precious new puppy! :D |
Thanks everyone! The good news is the fleas seem to be dead. Because they seem to be falling off of her and the ones that are on her aren't moving they just slide right off. Her vet appointment is at 9:30 a.m. While she is there I am going to make sure they get all the fleas off of her. While she's at the vets getting that done, I'm coming home and cleaning the bathroom and santizing it really well and going to give Little Man a bath in Dawn Dish Detergent for precaution! I'll update about her vet appt when we get back tomorrow. Oh, I got some exciting news!!! I went and checked on her. She ate a little more and drank a little more. She walked over to me and let me get what fleas I could off of her. Then walked over to the pee pad. She had a poopy and pee pee on the pee pad!!! YAY!!! :D Then she walked over and climbed on her pillow bed (I did pick the fleas of it too). I'm hoping she will be easier to potty train. Having a baby in the house brings back some sweet memories of when Little Man was that little. |

Weaning I am in the midst of weaning my pups they are 5 weeks old tomorrow. I got a tip to put grinded up dry food in a dish and give them a dish of water. I tried it but they liked it better if I poured some milk (Newborn supplement or Esbilac) on the dry food. I went out and bought a coffee bean grinder and it works wonders. They like it and it is working for me. It is so fun assisting them in getting to the food and watching them. Trying to keep them out of the food. Trying to keep there mom out of the line waiting to get to the mixture. All my pups are 1 pound and or a little bigger. They are cutting their teeth. I am putting out the pee pads. If I put them on it right away after taking them out of the tote I have them in now they go right away on it. I was going to try to use doggie litter, because of space. who knows it may work. I like the idea of play pen, my friend gave me a old one today. Good luck with the wee little one. |
awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww poooooooorrrrrrrr baby!!! but Im sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo happy she found you!!! shes a doll!!! |
Awww, Little Man has a Littler Sister. Congratulations. That breeder should be run out of business, but I'm glad it's you who rescued him. You'll do great. Good luck! |
Wow, your baby is soooo cute and in good hands. |
I checked on little miss Tawny this morning. I do believe the fleas are all off of her. I didn't see any on her pillow bed or on her this morning! She is still using the pee pad! :D She ate a little more this morning. She seems to be doing great. Her little gums have more pink in them this morning! And she is all over the place. When you walk in there with her, here she comes! She loves toes. She is still trying to nurse on mine or hubby's toes. She definitely loves getting attention from her brother. She whines and he goes and check on her. Once she knows that he's not there, she will whine again. Here he goes back to check on her! It's too cute! He's actually being good about not going up to the gate. Well I'm off to get ready to take Tawny to the vet. We're going to go pick up her grandmomma, then we got a couple of stops to make before heading to the vet. I'll update as soon as we get home! Have great day everyone! |
Congratulations on your new baby! I can't believe they were going to take her to the pound, what horrible people! She's a cutie!! |
POOR BABY with the fleas :(:( but she is just adorable - I LOVE the name Tawny - it suits her perfectly and good luck with her ~!!! ps...did you really count EACH flea ??? hehe |
Until I joined this site, I had never heard of using Dawn to get rid of fleas on a dog. I learn something new everyday here. You are a great person to take on that beautiful little baby. She is gorgeous. Someone higher up, brought you two together. She is a little angel with a forever mommy that will make sure she is loved and wanted. And a big brother who is already protective of her. Congratulations on your new baby. Hoping everything goes great at the Vet's. |
Congratulations on your new addition. Tawny will never realize that you saved her life, but she will repay you with tons of puppy kisses. Poor litle one, I HATE fleas. I hope that you are able to get them all and not wind up with little critters in your house :D |
That is so sweet. :) I hope the "breeder" later realizes what she did and feels very guilty. How cruel to take pups away so early! |
Congrats Larissa!!!! She is adorable! |
AWWW what a sweet face!:aimeeyork What a wonderful new mommy she'll have. Shame on those terrible people who bred her.:thumbdown |
Congratulations! She's adorable! I think rescuing this sweet pup is very admirable. She's lucky to have you!:) |
