my girl Paris, is an obsessive licker...especially when we wake up or come home.. she will never turn down an oppurtunity to lick, she also has a nervous knawing thing. lol. she like to knaw on clothes or hair, but doesnt slobber or chew holes. never understood that. lol. |
I am so glad to read that I am not the only one with a licker. My Cutter will lick the air like the earlier post said. He will do this forever until he tires himself out from all the licking and finally goes to sleep. He also licks hands and toes. Not only is he and air licker, people licker and own self licker, he loves to lick on the furniture and the bed sheets. It drives me crazy!! I have a light tan fabric sofa that shows and wet spot, and thanks to his licking fetish, there is always wet spots all over it. It's so hard to try and explain to company why there are all these large wet round spots all over the sofa. And at night time he puts himself to sleep by licking on the sheets, kinda gross to rollover on to a big wet spot when your trying to sleep. It's bad enough just trying to go to sleep listining to all the licking and smacking. And to top it off, once the licking is over and he is finally asleep, then he snores like a freight train. I finally talked to my vet about all of these crazy little problems he seems to suffer from, and he told me that it all was related to allergies. Can't decide if I totally agree with that or not. I tend to think it is more of a habit that anything else. |
^^^^ This is so strange! Otis does the same thing, but not as severe as Cutter. I've occassionally seen several wet spots on my comforter, but he mostly likes to lick the air, esp right before bedtime. He does it for a long time, too. He sounds like a suckling little baby with all that smacking. I couldn't figure out why he does this, but he'll usually stop if I say "CUT IT OUT, OTIS!" What type of allergies did your doctor say Cutter suffered from? |
I like to refer to the "licking" as "kisses" from Schatzie, LOL :D She gives a lot of kisses but just to my husband Robert and me. She is pretty unsociable with other people. She isn't one to lick herself much at all, thank goodness because my Schnauzer does it obsessively and it drives me insane. And, our Schnauzer never licks us?? Just herself?? Schatzie just pretty much wakes us up in the am with her wet kisses either up our nose, in our ear, on our lips, or non-mentionables. (wet is putting it mildly, more like sloppy wet ) A couple through out the day and some more at nigh-night time. :p I love it when she does it, it is so affectionate. It's like I can see the love in her eyes and has this expression of "ooohhhh I love you soooo much"...She's just so darned sweet!! She seems to be so appreciative of how much love she receives from her Daddy and me and I think her kisses (licks) are just her way of saying "thanks". :D |
I wouldn't think that licking is from allergies. Your post is hilarious littlelizzy! :) Yoda loves to lick me and his Mommy, though Yoda is more of a Daddylicker than a Mommylicker, and a select few other people he sees a lot. If he sees me, he'll jump on the couch, jump onto my chest just to lick my mouth. Sometimes I wonder if he's just thirsty and too lazy to go to his water bowl. He also loves to lick skin, my forearm and legs are easy targets for him. At night, I hear him licking his lips or something, and I often give him a bit of water when he does this, and he usually stops after getting some water. Luckily our couch is black and leather and it's easy to clean up the wet licked spots. |
kayser licks lot , he is allways sleeping and licking :o |
Luigi loves to lick also!!! He licks, me, Daddy and anyone else who will let him. He is such a lovable little guy that is what he does. He will be almost asleep and out of the blue plop his head to give you one last kiss and then he's out like a lightbulb!!!!!!!!! :p |
Licker baby is a serious licker too! She sits on my stomach and waits for me to say something in the morning when I wake up and then the kisses start. Plus, once she starts it doesn't do any good to try and get her to stop! She will not stop kissing until she is done. SHe is soo sweet and i love her kisses. They are simple and sweet and not slobbery at all! |
Roxy is only a 'self-licker' and I wish she would stop. TJ will lick lick and lick anyone, thing, himself, Roxy, etc. Sometimes I think his tongue has to break off at some point, but it nevers does! He is so cute! |

Maggie is a kisser too. Our only problem is keeping our lips tightly closed, or you will be in store for one big "French Kiss". Then forget about lotion after a shower. She will lick it all off, everytime. |
Katie is a total daddy's girl. She will lay in bed and lick (kiss) him until he can't breath. Then when she's finished w/ him, she'll strut over to me for my daily dose of lickey-kisses. Katie ONLY kisses on the mouth, whereas as Codie will lick/kiss whatever bit of skin comes his way. He's an EQUAL OPPORTUNITY LICKER!! :D |
Mellie is a serious kisser and she has to get right down your throat and as far up your nose as possible. She also has to lick anyone's toes who come into the house that has sandals on. Her favorite feet to lick are my husbands. ( no licking me after that) I think she knows it drives him nuts. Mac on the other hand only licks me and my daughter. :D |
so do we know WHY THEY LICK? It seems everyone's yorkie is quite the licker ... mine too! Her routine is to lick any skin she can (typically outstretched legs) for 10 minutes, then she settles in to sleep. I know playtime is over when she starts the licking & soon enough she'll nap. But do we know WHY they lick obsessively? Also, I want to be sure that this is not a sign that they think they are the pack leaders ... that even though they are licking us (grooming us like their mama's groomed them), they realize we're in charge? I could be over-thinking this ... :) But I'm curious! Anyone know? |
