does your yorkie lick you alot? My 1 year old quincy licks me and anyone he's around all the time.I really don't mind but it bothers my company i have over sometimes.i know he's just showing them he loves them but are there any suggestions from anyone to get him not to lick so much? :( linda |
lol....... you could make everyone that comes over take a bath in bitter apple :p |
My Higgins is lickerish, too...... |
my toby has an abnormally LONG tongue...... he tries to go for the ears too :p now he gives an AWARD WINNING wet willie  |
Hercules is a licker too. Maybe it's because they are still young. I don't know though. But I can tell you that Hercules licks my boyfriend different than he licks me. My boyfriend lets him mall him. I say that he's making out w/ him. It's a little gross but funny too! He'll put both of his paws on top of his face and go at it. Well he isn't usually quite that intense with me. Maybe because he can tell that I don't like it quite as much. He'll lick a little and then move on. |
What is is with the ears? They must like the taste of ear wax! Higgins tongue practically reaches my brain through my ear canal! Guess I'm brainwashed by the Yorkie! I think I have the cleanest ears on the whole Ease Coast! Higgins plays ROUGH with Don because Don encourages it. I wish Don wouldn't play rough with him. But they LOVE going at each other.....sigh. Then the two of 'em cuddle like crazy. Higgins licks Don's hands, but not his face -- Don has a beard. Higgins is a perfect gentleman with me, though. NEVER chews on my hands or is rough in any way. And he is a perfect gentleman with everyone else, too, thank heavens. They just KNOW who is who and who will let them be "boys." |
Toto's a "licker" too!!! :) Sometimes she wants to lick strangers that I would really prefer that she didn't!! :o I even caught her licking a door facing one day!! Go figure ... they just like to lick! Mary Ellen, Toto will lick Pat's beard ... Pat says she is "crumb mining"! Uggghhhhhh!!! ;) |
Oh yeah....Higgins cleans Don's beard after a meal! LOL And he mines both of our "shelves" after a meal, too.....little devil. Love "crumb mining"....gonna steal that. |
My little Beaker boy does alot of licking too, he doesnt miss a day.... i also love the kisses but sometimes its a bit much.....its just not me, my son, or hubby or our boxer does he lick. its got to be our shoes, carpet, our ears too, but worst of all we somtimes catch he licking not only his own but Triggers (our boxers) poop.... i hate that.... and wish i knew how to stop it..... |
Otis will lie there and lick the air for as long as 10 minutes. We don't understand why he does that. It bugs the crap out of me because all you haer is "smack, lick, smack, smack" for about 10 minutes before he finally decides to settle down and sleep. What is wrong with him? Does anyone else's Yorkie do that? |
junebug, i know its not funny to you, but i did have a little chuckel reading that your dog licks the air for about 10 mins, it almost sounds like when a dog licks when you blow in its face..... the only thing is yours doesnt have any air being blown in his face... maybe just a habbit, but who knows.... |
Penny licks all the time...me, "dad", chair, pillow, it doesn't matter what, she's always been a licker! I don't mind it for a little while but it gets to be old pretty quick. We've always wondered why she likes to lick so much. Does anybody know why yorkies do this? |

My girls are lickers too maybe it is a Yorkie thing but I have tried to calm them down with the licking but it is not working they see no stangers when someone comes to the house it takes them about 10 mins and they are fine. They even followed one of my friends into the bathroom. But the look on a yorkies face is the cutest thing I cant get mad at them Lilli is the one that knows how to get her way!!!Kristi |
Yup, I got a licker in Yoda, he'll lick all over my face and skin. It's actually a bit hard to get him to stop, but he only licks Mommy and Daddy and not gross strangers. :p |
my girl Paris, is an obsessive licker...especially when we wake up or come home.. she will never turn down an oppurtunity to lick, she also has a nervous knawing thing. lol. she like to knaw on clothes or hair, but doesnt slobber or chew holes. never understood that. lol. |
I am so glad to read that I am not the only one with a licker. My Cutter will lick the air like the earlier post said. He will do this forever until he tires himself out from all the licking and finally goes to sleep. He also licks hands and toes. Not only is he and air licker, people licker and own self licker, he loves to lick on the furniture and the bed sheets. It drives me crazy!! I have a light tan fabric sofa that shows and wet spot, and thanks to his licking fetish, there is always wet spots all over it. It's so hard to try and explain to company why there are all these large wet round spots all over the sofa. And at night time he puts himself to sleep by licking on the sheets, kinda gross to rollover on to a big wet spot when your trying to sleep. It's bad enough just trying to go to sleep listining to all the licking and smacking. And to top it off, once the licking is over and he is finally asleep, then he snores like a freight train. I finally talked to my vet about all of these crazy little problems he seems to suffer from, and he told me that it all was related to allergies. Can't decide if I totally agree with that or not. I tend to think it is more of a habit that anything else. |
^^^^ This is so strange! Otis does the same thing, but not as severe as Cutter. I've occassionally seen several wet spots on my comforter, but he mostly likes to lick the air, esp right before bedtime. He does it for a long time, too. He sounds like a suckling little baby with all that smacking. I couldn't figure out why he does this, but he'll usually stop if I say "CUT IT OUT, OTIS!" What type of allergies did your doctor say Cutter suffered from? |
I like to refer to the "licking" as "kisses" from Schatzie, LOL :D She gives a lot of kisses but just to my husband Robert and me. She is pretty unsociable with other people. She isn't one to lick herself much at all, thank goodness because my Schnauzer does it obsessively and it drives me insane. And, our Schnauzer never licks us?? Just herself?? Schatzie just pretty much wakes us up in the am with her wet kisses either up our nose, in our ear, on our lips, or non-mentionables. (wet is putting it mildly, more like sloppy wet ) A couple through out the day and some more at nigh-night time. :p I love it when she does it, it is so affectionate. It's like I can see the love in her eyes and has this expression of "ooohhhh I love you soooo much"...She's just so darned sweet!! She seems to be so appreciative of how much love she receives from her Daddy and me and I think her kisses (licks) are just her way of saying "thanks". :D |
I wouldn't think that licking is from allergies. Your post is hilarious littlelizzy! :) Yoda loves to lick me and his Mommy, though Yoda is more of a Daddylicker than a Mommylicker, and a select few other people he sees a lot. If he sees me, he'll jump on the couch, jump onto my chest just to lick my mouth. Sometimes I wonder if he's just thirsty and too lazy to go to his water bowl. He also loves to lick skin, my forearm and legs are easy targets for him. At night, I hear him licking his lips or something, and I often give him a bit of water when he does this, and he usually stops after getting some water. Luckily our couch is black and leather and it's easy to clean up the wet licked spots. |
kayser licks lot , he is allways sleeping and licking :o |
Luigi loves to lick also!!! He licks, me, Daddy and anyone else who will let him. He is such a lovable little guy that is what he does. He will be almost asleep and out of the blue plop his head to give you one last kiss and then he's out like a lightbulb!!!!!!!!! :p |
Licker baby is a serious licker too! She sits on my stomach and waits for me to say something in the morning when I wake up and then the kisses start. Plus, once she starts it doesn't do any good to try and get her to stop! She will not stop kissing until she is done. SHe is soo sweet and i love her kisses. They are simple and sweet and not slobbery at all! |
Roxy is only a 'self-licker' and I wish she would stop. TJ will lick lick and lick anyone, thing, himself, Roxy, etc. Sometimes I think his tongue has to break off at some point, but it nevers does! He is so cute! |

Maggie is a kisser too. Our only problem is keeping our lips tightly closed, or you will be in store for one big "French Kiss". Then forget about lotion after a shower. She will lick it all off, everytime. |
Katie is a total daddy's girl. She will lay in bed and lick (kiss) him until he can't breath. Then when she's finished w/ him, she'll strut over to me for my daily dose of lickey-kisses. Katie ONLY kisses on the mouth, whereas as Codie will lick/kiss whatever bit of skin comes his way. He's an EQUAL OPPORTUNITY LICKER!! :D |
Mellie is a serious kisser and she has to get right down your throat and as far up your nose as possible. She also has to lick anyone's toes who come into the house that has sandals on. Her favorite feet to lick are my husbands. ( no licking me after that) I think she knows it drives him nuts. Mac on the other hand only licks me and my daughter. :D |
so do we know WHY THEY LICK? It seems everyone's yorkie is quite the licker ... mine too! Her routine is to lick any skin she can (typically outstretched legs) for 10 minutes, then she settles in to sleep. I know playtime is over when she starts the licking & soon enough she'll nap. But do we know WHY they lick obsessively? Also, I want to be sure that this is not a sign that they think they are the pack leaders ... that even though they are licking us (grooming us like their mama's groomed them), they realize we're in charge? I could be over-thinking this ... :) But I'm curious! Anyone know? |
