ollie and bug are lucky to have found you! |
Awww....poor little baby. She's so lucky to have you. I'm wondering if the hair loss is alopecia or something like that. Hopefully you can get it figured out. She sure is adorable. Thanks for sharing your story. God bless you for being her Angel. |
Welcome to all of you. I think Bug is a Beauty in her own right. Have you considered seeing a holistic vet and/or acupuncture vet? My holistic acupuncture vet is absolutely amazing. You can read some very interesting case studies on his website http://www.apvet.com/index.html While none of them exactly match what you are describing with Bug, you will see that with herbs & acupuncture skin and hair condition can be changed (It saved my Bichon's life after a stroke that left him paralyzed!) Here are 2 different sites to find an acupuncture vet: http://www.ivas.org/member_search.cfm http://www.aava.org/pub/directory_links_public.html This is a site to find a holistic vet: http://www.ahvma.org/ Others on YT can tell you the amazing results they have had with acupuncture. My vet was originally trained and practiced as a traditional vet, so it is so wonderful that he can make the best assessment for how to proceed with a problem. |

Again Welcome!!!!! |
Solution for Hair Loss!!! Here is something you can try for her hair....my mother had a weenie dog that lost all the hair on her ears and was loosing the hair on her underside as well....we were told to put some Cod Liver Oil (make sure you get the Liquid)on her food every meal she eats. I cant remember how much it was...maybe like a teaspoon? Not sure on how much. Lemme know how much you feed her and Ill ask my mother and find out how much you should put on her food. But you can get liquid Cod Liver Oil at vitamin places like GNC (thats where we got ours) its like $10 I think for a bottle and it lasts awhile. The hair on my mothers dog came back and it came back really nice...it was actually THICK in some places! I cant remember how long we had her on it before all the hair came back but just be persistent and you will notice hair growin before too long. But dont quit if it takes a couple weeks...hair doesnt grow very fast so you gotta remember that when or if you think its not working. lol. You can PM me with any questions and let me know how much you feed Bug! She is precious and very lucky to have a home with you!! |

Coat and appetite Bug is beautiful! Thank goodness there are good folks like you around to take on little "lovebugs" like Bug! Don't be ashamed. My recently rescued Yorkie looks a lot like Bug... patchy hair, either oily or dry skin, and open sores. What seems to be helping him is a product called Missing Link. It is a powder that can be mixed in the food--a sort of super supplement. Stanford really likes it, and his skin is showing improvement after about three weeks on it. I give him about 1/8th of a teaspoon per day, mixed into the food. Give Bug some time on this, and high quality food. I feed Stanford Solid Gold, which he sucks down in record time. I also use a coal tar shampoo formulated for dogs. It immediately got rid of a lot of his nasty skin flakes, and reduced the itching by about half. All of these products should be available in your local pet store. Keep us posted. You are doing a wonderful thing, and as I am finding out, you will not regret it. |
Food too I almost forgot that Solid Gold is canned food, which is the only kind I feed either of my dogs. The big dog begins to itch, flake, and loose his shiny coat after about a week on any kind of dry food. I just have a bias for wet food, but it is more expensive, and some dogs refuse it. My vet told me once that dry food is the one of the biggest culprits for exacerbating any existing skin conditions, and causing dogs to drink more, thus setting up the dog for possible bloat. Stanford refuses any kind of dry food (even before I took him in, according to his previous family...but had to eat it as they felt this was "better than spoiling him with wet food.") Oh well. Then again, some persons swear by dry, and never have a problem. So who knows? Just try some different options, and keep us posted. |

I like the Missing Link Supplement too. Maybe you can try home cooking. I don't know any dogs who will not eat home cooked meals. You can get all kinds of different recipies here. I think that your little bug is just perfect. When I saw her pictures I just wanted to give her a big hug and kiss. Thank God for people like you!!:) |
You are a wonderful person for taking your little Bug in. She is beautiful :p |
Just wanted to bump this to say I would love to see you posting more in all the forums. It helps me to not feel like such a newbie ,teasing. Your story just touched me and I really hope you stick around so we can all get to know you. |
