Okay I usually dont get mad easy but,Tuesday I carried Sparky to the vet for puppy shots and he whinned and cried and the vets assisant(spelled)
made several comments about Sparky!! First she said he needed to go to puppy school (which for her info. he started Monday)Then she said I needed to call Super Nanny to get him straight.The poor puppy was scared so yes he cried.Am I wrong for feeling like this?? :mad:

no your not wrong. what a bi**h!! she doesn't deserve to work around animals!!!!!!

I don't blame you for being angry. What king of bedside manner is that?!! :thumbdown Was the vet in the room to hear the assistant making those comments? If not, I would definitely mention it. And if he/she was there then I'd think twice about going back. Of all the people, they ought to know that our pets are family. Jojo is definitely treated like a son and not a dog/animal. Oh my, I'm getting riled up just thinking about it!! :angry:

She should have kept her comments to herself! She has no business working there! Some people are so obnoxious!

she should have kept her mouth shut........ she could have said things in a more tactful way.... she could have said "oh hes crying an awful lot, is this normal? if it is maybe you shoud look into blah blah blah" or "has he started puppy kindergarten yet???? it would be really good for him, those classes are great for early training......" i agree that she wasnt very tactful in teh way taht she handeled things but some people arent, and a lot of those vet people are used to getting people that know absolutly nothing about dogs and what kind of care that they need, and (giving her the benefit of the doubt) being a vet tech is STRESSFUL, maybe she just had a bad day and didnt feel up to the task of talking to people correctly (is this is the case then she still shouldnt be working there because it will always be a stressful job)

Some nerve!!! You know, the assistant in my vets office where I take Luig, always has a coment to make about his behavior!!!! Well, we haven't been there since Feb, and we got him in Jan, but he was sick alot so we were there because of that!!! And many times she was in a round about way, trying to blame me. And would make coments like- Oh he's not sitting yet, and boy is he antsy!!! I was like- He's still a puppy!! 3 monthes old, and in a whole new envirnment, and you have the nerve to tell me he is antsy!!! I wanted to scream at her!!! So you have every right to be PO'D!!!!!

I'd probably talk to the doctor about her comments and if he didn't change her attitude for her, then I would find another doctor! :p

I would find a new vet. Period. And when I wrote requesting the records to be send to the new doc, I would explain why.

When you have an emergency, you need to have a skilled doc you can count on who staffs his clinic with knowledgeable caring people. I would hate to have to face that person if my little one was REALLY sick and needed some warm fuzzies.

It is not her job nor her business whether or not your baby is a holy terror. And she is a VET TECH so what qualifies her to make that determination, anyway?

Yuck, the Vet's office is a very scary place for MOST dogs. Must have been her first day on the job, really, what does she expect. I would consider changing vets also. If she is rude to you about your pup, imagine how rude and mean she would be to your pup if you ever had to leave him there alone. Not a good sign. Also, I would let the vet know. Good luck and I'm sorry you had to deal with that!

obviously this assistant doesn't work with Yorkies to much. Every one I've met is a Drama Queen or King. That is just typical Yorkie behavior, right? Starsky whimpers when he get's his shots too, plus he has reactions and has to get a second shot because of that! How would she (the assistant) like to get a shot or 2 in her neck!!!!!!!!! I am sure some Bull Mastif's whimper too!

Toby didnt wimper with his........ lol..... you could see his eyes sort of bug out when he got the thermometer up the butt though (it was like something out od a cartoon).......

I would have been furious! You can bet that I would have had a long discussion with the "head vet" about that person's attitude!

That would have been the last time I ever step foot in that Vet's office. I would reprot her to who ever was in charge. And I would be sure to spred the word of how I was treated

i wouldnt of put up with that she would of got a mouthful from me and then i would of told the vet what she said.
the nurses were i go love my rosie and always cuddle her when i go in there.
report her to the vet she has no right saying that to a PAYING customer, she should no our fur babies are very dear to us

That assistant was way out of line. I will get a new vet. No bedside manners at all, geez. Puppies get scared and they cried. What she expects for every single pup to be stay quite and still? Is not going to happen.

That VET Assistant needs a few classes in Charm School ....how coldhearted of her. I would have complained to someone ....aside from the stress of the shots - that atmosphere just made it worse for poor Sparky. She sounds like she's in the WRONG business. Poor baby - I hope he feels better and I would stay clear of that mean woman.

I thought everyone in a vet's office was supposed to be "professional"? If the vet is so good that I wanted Toto to have his quality of care, then I would address the actions of the tech ... otherwise I would request her records and find a more professional atmosphere for my baby!! I am fortunate that I have a wonderful vet here in Alabama and have found yet another one in Colorado! When Toto comes in the door, it's like she is the most important baby there ... to tell you the truth, she hurts my feelings by being so happy in their arms and showers them with kisses!! :rolleyes: I wish all our babies could feel that confident! I agree ... if you don't have that special love for pets, you just shouldn't work around them!!

Not that the vet tech deserves any defense but maybe she was new or insecure about her handling of Sparky and was saying those things to cover her own inexperience??? That doesn't really excuse it though. It's very important for you as Sparky's mom to feel respected by the vet's staff. That way you are more confident about the care he gets there. And if you're unhappy, you can bet Sparky is. I nervously joke and call Bo "shiver boy" when we're at the vet. They're so sweet and just love on him. But nothing will stop his shivers. He is the drama king!!

I use to work as a vet assist. years ago. And she was not suppose to say that to you. That is not proper "bed side manner." Yes, your vet would want to know this. :mad: I would call him or better yet go in and talk to him about this situation. He may end up loosing valuable business because of her and if he is a great vet - worse end for the dogs. Our dogs need the best care possible - just like humans.

Definately, talk to your vet! You might be surprised at what happens. My mother was getting rude treatment from a new assistant at her doctors, finally she just told him about it and how she did not appreciate the side comments the assistant was making to her. Next time she went - new assistant! Her doctor said that his assistants reflected on his care, if they were rude people expected him to be, if they were kind people thought he was, so that one got the boot!
I think it's a priviledge to be able to work for a vet and it takes a certain kind of person to handle that job! Kudos to all the great VA's out there!

Hi Guys Thanks for supporting me,my normal vet was not there but the subsitute vet was in there when the commet was made.

Those comments would not have angered me if they were said to me but what do I know.

I would call the vet and explain to him/her the situation and perhaps have the assistant spoken to. If you really like your vet then continue to go but, anytime that person trys to handle your little boy just tell her "no" that you would like someone else to help. If she asks you why, just tell her you treated my little boy badly and you didn't appreciate it. If she doesn't appologize then I would definately choose another vet. Remember are pets can't speak for themselves we have to speak for them. Let us know what happens. We are all 100% behind what ever you do. :yorkietal

Oh my goodness Reagan screamed so much when she got her's I'm sure the people in the waiting room were wondering who was killing her. She screamed so much that I had to laugh. Don't think I'm a bad mommy, they hadn't even touched her with the needle and she had already started. After the vet saw me laughing she kind of chuckled a little herself but the lady who was holding her didn't seem to mind one bit. Actually she kept telling Reagan "Its not my fault its the vet's". Then the next time we went in she came running into the waiting room talking baby talk to Reagan and carried her off with her to be weighed while I was still filling out paperwork. I have to say its not just important to have a good vet, but rather a good vet staff. I love everyone at my vets office, even the people behind the desk.

I personally think she needs to get used to it if she isn't already some puppies just don't like getting shots and chances are she's going to have to deal with more than just yours.

I wouldn't be too happy if I were you but at the same time chalk it up as a bad day and see what happens next time. If you still aren't happy with how things go then think about changing vets. You wouldn't want to be worrying about you baby anymore than you have to if, for some reason, you have to leave her there in the future for a longer period of time.

The vet we use is great, but several years ago they had a vet there that really got me quite upset. I had a cat he was 20+ years old and was in for some kind of a problem(i dont even remember anymore), but he checked my cats teeth & started making gagging noises & actions, due to the cats bad breath. Needless to say I wasn't impressed, when I went out to the front desk I told the girls about it & they noted on our file that we will not see that dr again. I was back with another animal about 6 mo later & he was no longer with the practice. So I obviously wasn't the only one who felt that way.
Definately tell someone, even if it the girls at the front desk, you probably can have something noted in your file that you dont want that assistant again.

I worked as a vet tech in highschool, I thought I was going to be a vet, but couldn't handle the declawing surgery. No one really ever explained to me what I was supposed to do during exams, but I took it that it was my job to help the dogs relax and make the environment as unscary as possible and i was there because I love animals. I would talk soothingly to the animals and pet them and then love on them afterward. If you work in that position you have to understand that all dogs will react differently to the stress and the fact that your pup was just wimpering is pretty good. During my years at the vet I was bitten and scratched more than once. But that's part of the job, it was never my job to give any kind of advice to customers.

At my vet visit on tues. my vet has a vet from romania that's over here for training. After my pups visit the girl from romania started petting him really hard and brushing the hair on his face the wrong way. I could tell he didn't like it so i tried to ask her stop nicely saying he didn't like his hair messed up. When she didn't stop I took him from her. I didn't want his trips to the vet to be an unsetting experience.

My little boy loved all over the vet tech after he got his shot because she was very gentle and soothing with him.
