| 12 hours after C Section All, my Ponytail Polly was too sick to be a Mommy..she died about 12 hours after the c section that produced 4 puppies, one stillborn. She never bonded with the babies, threw up a few times, drank water but refused to eat. I made her lay down and the puppies tried to eat. I should have realized something was seriously wrong! I cant believe this has happened and her babies are so young...I just dont know if I can pull them thru this. She was a sweet girl, loved everyone so now she is in heaven licking everyone. I hope she isnt upset with me, I feel so bad. Thank goodness I didnt scold her for ignoring the babies. |

| So sorry to hear of your loss. What a bittersweet day to have welcomed the puppies into the world only to lose your precious Polly. Good luck with the puppies -- I know it will be difficult but I hope they can bring some love back to you.

| My deepest condolences for your loss. You can take care of her legacy she has left behind. A few years ago a local breeder dropped off two puppies left from a litter of five after the dam did not pull through. I would suggest that you check around and see if anyone has fresh goats milk and colostrum. It is very important that the puppies receive the colostrum. I would feed the puppies every 1 1/2-2 hours until they started eating puppy food mush. You can bottle feed, but tube feeding is more efficient. If you have not tube fed before see if there is a local breeder that maybe able to teach you the proper why to tube feed. Please make sure the puppies are voiding on their own. I just received a card from the lady that adopted both babies, they turned two this past October.

| puppies are 22 hours The puppies are 22 hours old and seem to be doing well considering the journey we had yesterday. I am feeding them every 3 hours, this seems to be their schedule, and stimulating them to void...if I can just get them thru the first few days I will be more hopeful of saving them. They all three feel strong and belly's are full after feeding...no crying or whimpering until time to eat again. I have never had to tube feed but am going to call my vet shortly to gather his thoughts on tube feeding AND to tell him about POlly's death... cant help but think he did something wrong!!! He has been a small animal vet for 40 years...he may be getting too old...(me grasping at straws) |

Keep feeding the babies every 3 hours and weigh them everyday (kitchen scale) to make sure they are gaining weight. Kisses suggested fresh goats milk which is an excellent idea. Otherwise, just supplement with the formula that you have but colostrum is the best...liquid gold. Pups can't generate their own heat for 3-4 days after birth so make sure pups don't get chilled. I know that you're using a heating pad under the box...a plus. Keep going as you are going.

| Makes it scary to be a breeder, huh? I know that I take a risk with my bitches everytime I breed so I shouldn't get too attached. I can't seem to do that though, I just love this breed and each one is so special. So sorry for your loss. Good luck with the pups.

You are fortunate though, you have her puppies. As I read this thread, you are a big hearted person and the puppies seem to be doing okay. I am sure they will be fine. As for you snuggle with each of them, they have Your Pontail Polly inside each of their little hearts.. Keep us posted, your in our prayers...
