Just lost my yorkie this week to a tragic accident
 

I have joined this forum in hopes I can get some needed support. My sweet yorkie of 4 years died this week. It was tragic in that I personally ran over her and initially thought I had broken her leg and rushed her to the vet and she had internal bleeding and died very quickly. My daughter feels she has lost her best friend and I am full of guilt and have truly lost my truest friend and companion. I think we need to find another dog to make our lives complete. So sorry to hear of your loss. God must have needed an new little Yorkie in heaven.

My mom went through the same situation with my dog that we had for 15 yrs. when I was growing up....it was very tough for her, but time will ease the pain...eventually. My prayers and thoughts are with you and your daughter.

We all wish we could put our pups in a protective bubble to keep them safe from all of the dangers that lurk for tiny dogs, but that would be robbing them of the spirit that makes them so special. I have a feeling your pup lived a very rich life in her four years. I hope memories of all the good times bring you comfort.

Welcome to YT. I'm just so sorry for the circumstances that brought you here. My deepest sympathies for your family's loss. I, too, ran over one of my pups a long time ago, but he survived. I felt so bad, I can't imagine how bad your heart must be hurting right now. But, it was an accident. Things happen and we just can't always control them. He was blessed with 4 four years of love and spoiling. Keep those memories alive. When the time is right and you find a new baby, that little one will help comfort you. ohhh honey, so deeply sorry you lost your precious baby, how awful for you and your family, please don't blame yourself, it's not worth it, you cant what if yourself, I know, cause I did it not to long ago, I to lost my baby in June, she was hit by a car and I blamed myself up and down till I was driving myself crazy.
I think when your ready, a new baby is just the answer, I have Lillie now and she was such a blessing to my family, I'm so over protective of her and constantly keep my eye on her.

Please know your baby knows you loved her very much and she wants to see you smile again.

I truly hope you can find a new baby to love, I know it wont take the place of her, but it will help your heart heal. Best of luck to you hun!

((((HUGS)))) I am so sorry for your loss. You will find lots of support here. I found this sight a few weeks ago after loosing our oldest Yorkie. The people here are wonderful and will help you through this difficult time.

I'm so sorry. The best thing for you to do is to talk about it and not keep it bottled up. The grief is unbearable and outside your family there are few people who would understand what you are going through, so you have come to the right place. Your little one is at Rainbow Bridge now and she is not hurting. Since you have just lost your baby, give it a few weeks to a month before you get another one. You need to somewhat come to terms with your grief first, then start looking for your new baby and don't buy on impulse and get an unhealthy yorkie. If a little time passes, I think it would be better for the new baby and less likely that the new one will be compared to the one you just lost. Your new one will be a very lucky yorkie to be loved and cherished so very much.

I hope the weekend gets better, its hard losing one, and it takes awhile to stop hurting so much, but another one will help to ease the pain...accidents do happen and this is a tragic one...don't beat yourself up to much...it will get better...your in my prayers...

This is why I said to wait a little bit before getting another one.

Should I get a new pet right away?
Generally, the answer is no. One needs time to work through grief and loss before attempting to build a relationship with a new pet. If your emotions are still in turmoil, you may resent a new pet for trying to "take the place" of the old-for what you really want is your old pet back. Children in particular may feel that loving a new pet is "disloyal" to the previous pet.

When you do get a new pet, avoid getting a "lookalike" pet, which makes comparisons all the more likely. Don't expect your new pet to be "just like" the one you lost, but allow it to develop its own personality. Never give a new pet the same name or nickname as the old. Avoid the temptation to compare the new pet to the old one: It can be hard to remember that your beloved companion also caused a few problems when it was young!

A new pet should be acquired because you are ready to move forward and build a new relationship-rather than looking backward and mourning your loss. When you are ready, select an animal with whom you can build another long, loving relationship-because this is what having a pet is all about!

Cassie would have been 11 years tomorrow this is her first
birthday in her forever eternal home. In writing this
poem I hoped it would give some comfort to those that know the pain of giving one back to the Lord for his keeping. What a gift they are to us, they as each of us are only on loan to one another in this lifetime. My prayer is for God to hold each of us in his loving arms and comfort us through whatever we must endure.

Dear Rhonda, the Lord led us to get another yorkie and it was the best thing we could have done. Baby Blessing is such a comfort to us, and am thankful we didn't wait too long. Part of our heart went with Cassie but we had to start anew, it really did help in getting our new little girl.

I am so sorry......I know you feel so bad.....and your sweet little girl......but, just be strong together.....and tell her you puppy is taking care of all the older yorkies in heaven......it gives comfort to kids when they feel they are contributing......
