Irreplaceable Chelsey As some of you may know, we lost our little darling Chelsey to a neurological disorder, probably GME, a few months back. My wife had been almost inconsolable regarding the absence of this 3 pound mix of joy, devotion and unqualified love. It was with some hope of easing the pain that we went to look at puppies and came home with both a Maltese and a Shiatzu. Now, before you drum me out of the forum, remember we still have Ezekiel Beauregard, our "Big Boy", of that most noble Yorkie lineage. He has tolerated the arrival of his two new little sisters with benign neglect, allowing them to occasionally pull his whiskers or jump his rump in attempts to induce him to playfulness, but mostly teaching them the meaning of "back off the big dog" in low growls and stern looks. We had looked at Yorkie babies, but my wife couldn't help comparing each to her own lost little piece of her heart and finally realised it was both fruitless and might end up a hardship for any new little girl if she was found wanting and my wife failed to "bond" with her. So we boldly struck off into new territory, the uncharted regions of Maltese and Shi-tzu land. I remember someone once posted a thread and wondered if "other" breeds were found as delightful in the eyes of their owners as Yorkies were to theirs. At that time, I had posted that I was sure other owners go just as bonkers over their poochies as we do over ours. It's just like falling in love for the first time, you are certain NO ONE in the world has ever known love like this, even Romeo and Juliet could learn a thing from you, right? So, I am here to utter this bit of sedition, ALL puppies are a delight...even members of the breed I once disdained for their little squashed faces...Shi-members! (Is that the sound of swords being drawn I hear?) Now, before I am forced to walk the plank I will say that no dog, past or future, could ever take the place of my lost little girl. But if there is one thing she taught me it is this: Big hearts often come in very small packages, and God couldn't have used a better example of this than that 3 + pound bit of Yorkie love. |
wonderful!! Oh, what wonderful news..new babies to love. You must post some pictures!! There is no greater way to show how much we loved a lost companion then to get another and shower it with that same love...Chelsea would approve I am sure..she would never want to see you without a smile on your faces..Best wishes |
I can't say it any better than Pat just did. Congratulations on your new puppies and I'd love to see pictures too - what a handful with 2.....but you're in for lots and lots of smiles Rest in Peace little Chelsey ....I know your smiling now. |

Israel, Dan & I completely understand when you stated "couldn't help comparing each to her own lost little piece of her heart and finally realised it was both fruitless and might end up a hardship for any new little girl if she was found wanting and my wife failed to "bond" with her." Our little Jewel, also lost her battle to a neurological disease about the same time Chelsey went to heaven. Dan & I had huge hopes for her biological mother to conceive a new little but she didn't and the family is moving out of state. We were heart broken at the news, didn't realize how much we wanted Jewels sister. After few days, Dan said to me, it was probably a good thing she didn't get pregnant because it wouldn't have been fair to the puppy to be compared to Jewel especially since they would have been born of the same mother. We have just recently started to look for Yorkie breeders in our area. Have not gotten to the point of contacting anyone yet. I'm so happy for your new addition of not only one but 2 new little girls to love! I'm so glad they found you and your wife! Chelsey must be so happy to see genuine smiles on your faces again. Our time will come for a new love too. |
Your story is so sweet. How can you not love those two little adorable faces. Congratulations. Chelsea will always be with you in your heart. |
Lovely post...thanks for sharing it with us! Blessings on you and the new babies! |

What a beautiful post and great responses. They are adorable and will bring their own set of memories. |
Congrats on the new babies, they are so adorable! Please keep us updated on stories and pics of these 2 little bundles of joy! :) Thanks for sharing your story. |
How very well you said that! Your new puppies are beautiful and I know they will bring much joy to your lives.:) |
congrats your post warmed my heart as well as I was in the same position as you.I lost my darling 5 pound silky nearly 2 years ago and new I could never get another one as I would compare it to her as well so i got an adorable 4lb yorkie which is now the light of my life.I didnt feel like my family was complete so now she has a beautiful bichon brother .All the best to you. |
what sweet little darlings!! I think you made a wise choice, they are both great breeds and I hope they bring you and your wife much joy!! Congrats! |
bless you all Thank you so much for your kind words and encouragement, the little Maltese is Zurina, and the Shi-Tzu is Zoey, I am terrible about their ages, but I believe Zurina is 15 weeks and Zooey 16? My wife will correct me, I am sure. Zurina has had some health issues, not sure yet (after many trips to vets and and "specialists" as to the source of her occasional excess bile and vomitting, are still in process of ruling out some things), but generally they are happy and as playful as pups are wont to be. Who'd a thunk I'd end up loving a bed full of dogs? |

I am so sorry to hear of your loss! I know that those 2 babies will help mom through this hard time!! Best of luck! |
I'm sorry I am sorry for your loss of little She-Ra, as with all the others that have posted their understanding through having experienced the same. It's notable that such little ones can occupy such large places in our hearts. I used to look forward to sitting around a campfire by a lake and eating s'mores with the Lord, now I anticipate doing it with a lapful of poochies. All dogs go to heaven. |
It brings so much joy to read your posts about your new babies. Just like our children, we love each one for the different joys they bring to our hearts. Each dog is different, each with their own loving personality, and each knows how to tug at our heart strings. Let's hope that the doctors find out what Zurina's health problem is, and soon. There will never be another Chelsea for you, but as you said, the joy of having a lap full of furbabies can't be beat. Thank you so much for your delightful posts. Helen, Biscuit, Sissy, Bella, Kiley, Teddy, Tulley, Coco, Aubergine, Lucy, Noel and Darby. |
Congrats on the new babies and remember that one day you will be playing with Chelsey again! |
chelsey is probably watching over you from the rainbow bridge as she frolicks with no pain |
quick update Again, thank you all for your responses, they are much appreciated. Zurina seems to be doing better, we have her on a doggie dose of Prilosec, it may have been something as simple as excessive stomach secretions, the episodes are far fewer and less intense. I chuckle when I see how many of you have adopted the old Lay's potato chip philosophy as applies to poochies "bet you can't keep just one!". Both little girls are growing and turning into "lovey doveys", much to the delight of my wife. The futon mattress is on the floor from which they can come and go as they please without fear of them falling off our much higher bed as we snuggle daily in our "den". love to you all... |

Our Fierce Ones 1 Attachment(s) After a day of playing tag, chomping cow hooves and retrieving stuffed mallards our pack needs a good rest. Zeke is tolerating the babies better, even caught him playing with them the other day which is often below his dignity. Love to all... and those who know the sorrow of losing a little one, the Lord's comfort to you.... |
Ahhhhh really special those three Thanks so much for posting the picture I can see Zeke is quite a content little fella with his two new friends. They all look like they are getting rested up, the babies are adoreable. Thanks Israel and Pauline. RIP Chelsey, Cassie and everyones precious ones. Patti and Jack |
