I am so sorry for your loss. I know a lot of us here have been through this, and it is never easy. But you can't think of what could have been, it is just something we all have to endure. When we get these little guys we know that their lives are not as long as ours and some day we will have to face this, but still we are never prepared. One good thing is that you have her babies to keep you company and keep you busy while you grieve.

Reggie was our 4th dog since we got married, 40 years ago. Our first was a cocker, we had Tammy before we had kids. The second was Benji, a white spitz. We got him for my in-laws who 2 weeks later went on a vacation to Hawaii so Benji came to stay with us and never left. The third was Cyrus. We got him for our youngest son during his junior year of high school. Two weeks before Christmas said he wanted a black Chow. Fate stepped in and sure enough, we found one. All three died of old age. The first two had pulled at my heart strings, they were sick and I couldn't take it watching them suffer any longer and was gong to take them to the vet the next day to be put to sleep. They both died in my arms that night. Cyrus was also old but he died after my husband went to work at 5:30 am and before I got up at 7am, right before Christmas. Reggie, she's a different story. It was so unexpected. A total shock to my system.

I just got home from having the pups tails docked. He said the puppies had a great head start and didn't see anything wrong. He told me he wondered if maybe Reggie might have had the afterbirth stuck in the birth canal. I told him I wasn't going to do the what is, would have, should have game. He said, he can't help but think that way and believes that may have been a good possibility. Anyway, Reggie is now tucked into a nice fleece blanket with roses and "Love" written on it, laying on our bed. Don't think I'm morbid, I took pictures of her all wrapped up ready to go to heaven and take care of all the little babies who left this world too soon. :lovewings

There is never a good way or a best time to lose a beloved pet, I feel so badly for you Linda. I hope that you can find some comfort in caring for her babies and I'm sure you will be really glad that you kept one. We'll be thinking of you and your babies. :2hearts2:

I know you have your hands full with all of the babies to care for, but as you said it will keep you sane.

I don't know if any of you do this. One winter we lost a puppy. The ground was too frozen to dig a hole. My husband came up with this idea and we've done it ever since. We place the little angels in PVC pipe, seal the end caps, and write on them their name, date of birth, and date of death. If we should ever move, our little angels will go with us. Tomorrow I will be getting a much larger pipe for Reggie. No matter where we go, she will always be with us. And when the good Lord decides he needs me, Reggie will go with me. :lovewings

I don't know you but I can not even begin to say how much i am sorry for your loss. Your story got the "river flowing" and I can not stop. What a beautiful person you seem to be. Reggie was lucky to have you to watch over her and now she is watching over you.

Thank you for the PVC pipe idea. it will be a LONG time hopefully before I would need that BUT it is a wonderful idea.

Thank you for sharing the picture with us. She looks so beautiful and peaceful.

Oh I am sooo sorry. I am praying for you and the little ones.

You may not have met me in person, but you are getting to know the inner me and I feel like I know each of you. Every time I think I have my emotions under control, I get drawn back to YT. The warmth I find here is so comforting, but it is here that I can't hold the tears back. I can't tell you what a blessing you all have been for here I can grieve and know I'm not alone. Maybe in a couple of days I'll tell you the story of when we actually picked up Reggie from our best friend, Gail. It's another tear jerker! By the way, Reggie's first born was named after Gail, SteeleOaks Sarsaparilla Gail, better known as Sassy. Sassy is the mommy to Kathryn's Paris. :lovewings

Oh, Linda, I am so terribly sorry .... my heart just aches for you. I cannot believe that little Reggie is gone. We will keep you all in our prayers ... please keep us updated on the babies. God bless & comfort you all. Toto sends sweet kisses to your little ones.

I'll be keeping my fingers crossed, knock on wood, and pray for your Pebbles and new babies. This year just hasn't been my year, February 4th we almost lost Gizmo, the daddy to this litter. 3 weeks ago Sissy, one of Reggie's daughters, had 2 babies during the night, both died that same day. I spent most of the next day calling all the vets in the area to see if they might have a client that recently had yorkies puppies so I could give her one. Sissy was so lost. Now here I am, in need of a nursing mommy. I was hoping that Sissy might still have some milk, but the vet said she was dried up. If she wasn't, they could have given her a shot to make the milk fall. I know Sissy would have taken care of Reggie's babies. December 2003, Sissy had 4 babies on the 8th, Reggie had 6 on the 17th. I had to end up putting them in the same cage as each wanted the others babies.

I just had an idea of what I'm might name Reggie's little girl that we're going to keep. My husband and I were talking about it earlier tonight. Because Reggie was named after our friends, Richard and Gail, and Richard is no longer in the picture, Gail's now married to Trampas, he said to call her GT. I said, like as in GTO........he's a big Ford fanatic, drives a 94 bright red mustang convertible. :thumbup: When we thought we might loose Gizmo, we decided to keep Neptune, the little brother to Kathryn's Paris. I thought about calling him Trampas, but Gary started calling him Dinky because he is so small. I'm thinking maybe of calling her Angel's Baby, Angel Girl, or maybe Angelfire. Thinking of the future helps. Any name suggestions?

I just checked my records, Reggie birthed 34 babies. Her first litter she had 3. Her second litter she had 5. The rest she had 6 at a time except for one record litter of 7. She has brought love to many families. :love:
