I recently read something about pet loss by someone whose pup was hit by a car. I read all of the reader's comments, as well. It was both heartbreaking and heartwarming to read the feelings of love shared with their pups. It may be too difficult for you to read now, but in time you might find it therapeutic.

On Losing a Dog – Phenomena: Only Human

We have a 14 yr old chihuahua, Lexi who has been suffering and on medication for Congestive Heart Failure for 2 years, we know our time with her is coming to a end. The week before we lost our precious Heffy, my 20 year old baby boy moved out unexpectedly. Needless to say, I am experiencing grief from our loss of the lil man and the empty nest syndrome all at once. We have decided that for us the best thing to do is to go ahead and get another puppy to help ease some of the loneliness. We understand that a new puppy will never take the place of our Precious Heffy, our Angel Lexi or our 11 year old Tito we lost 4 years ago to Congestive Heart Failure also. They have each added so much to our lives over the years we were blessed to have them. They all had different things to add to our lives and will forever live in our heart. I love Yorkies, but could not bring myself to get one that looked anything like our lil man. We have decided to get a Parti male puppy. I truly appreciate Yorkie Talk for the fact that I can openly discuss my grief without being judged and looked at like, well he was JUSt A DoG! No he was not, he was a family member. You will never know how much your supportive words have meant to me and I know you truly get it. The nightmares of Heff's passing are the worst and I truly pray that they go away soon, its like reliving it all over again. I am looking forward to the wonderful support in bringing the new love into our home and help with the whole Yorkie puppy training thing again. Our new addition will be ready to join us the first of February if he is big enough to leave his mom and has his teeth, should be around 12 weeks old, which will be perfect.

I am so happy to hear you are going to open your hearts and home up to another little furbaby soon. They never do replace the ones lost, and are not meant to. But the joy a new little fluff will start a new chapter in your life. It's nice to have something wonderful to look forward to, while you are processing all your losses.

I am truly sorry for your loss. They are family. I walk my dog often and also worry about the coyotes and eagles we have in the area. It makes me feel better that you have a new addition coming soon. I wish you and your husband all the best!

So sorry to hear this. I know your heart must be breaking. I lost mine on the 5th. Not sure why these wonderful pets come into our lives only to be taken young or too soon. You were lucky to have each other. I can tell on his picture!

I'm so sorry you lost your fur baby, that must be so hard. Hopefully getting a new addition will help ease the loneliness... In my house they aren't pets they are fur babies 🐶

My wife and I feel the pain you are experiencing. We lost our little Jethro to a raccoon that attacked my wife and our little hero. He attacked the raccoon when it went after my wife as she took him out into the back yard. Our heart is so empty with out him.

I'm glad you came here, mshancock. This place was a rock for me to lean on when my Minnie Bear died back in 2013. I don't know how I would have been able to deal with my grief without this place, since most people aren't shattered when they lose a pup the way a lot of us are. I had the same feelings when I got my Cookie Monster; I didn't want a pup who looked anything like Minnie because I never want to try to compare any dog to her.

I'm so sorry about Heffy, lost to a stupid coyote. Sometimes things go wrong too fast to be able to stop, and it's maddening. I love the pic of him you shared with us. What a handsome face and your pup looks so proud of that cute blue neckerchief. Photos are so priceless, especially at a time like this.

Thank you for your wonderful words, they mean more than you know! How is it working with lil Cookie Monster, did it seem to ease your grief, still hoping I am making the right decision to get another, my best friend who runs a local animal rescue and has lost two long time fur babies of her own played a big part in telling me that it would help the grief. I know that nothing will ever take it away, but hoping in time the nightmares and the hurt will lessen!
