We will have a carry in picnic, so you are asked to bring a covered dish, your own paper products, silver ware, and your own drinks.

You may bring EX-pens, strollers, crates or anything that you need for your yorkies.

You may also want to bring chairs. The shelter is NOT enclosed, but does have a roof. It also has lots of picnic tables and a grill.

We will be having a gift exchange. Please sign up and let me know asap if you want to be in the exchange, this way I can pair you up with your gift buddy.
You may enter more then 1 yorkie. You may spend as much as you would like on your gift buddy with a minimum of $20

We can have a food sign up sheet. This way we won't have to much salads or to many desserts, etc.

We need to decide on what meat we want, last year I think we did hamburgers and hot dogs.

I'm taking donations to help cover the cost of the shelter that is $90, table clothes and the meat.

Ohio, Michigan, Wisconsin you are all invited if you can make it!

I will be staying in a hotel, so I will come on Aug 31st and stay till Sep2nd. If anyone else wants to stay the weekend I will let you know what hotel will be dog friendly. More the merrier!

I just found out that this weekend (sep 1st) is US National Car race. So if you want to stay in a hotel, we have to book it asap.

Count me in with 2 babies. I think hamburger and hot dogs sounds easy. I live fairly close so if I can pitch in with anything let me know. I actually work on 56th street. I won't be in the gift exchange, but I'll donate toward the shelter and meat when I get paid on Friday. Really, if there's anything I can do to help, I drive by there everday day to and from work. I live about 25 minutes from there. I can't wait!! And the Drag Nationals are very close to the park, only about 10 minutes.

I'm going to try to attend. My hubby is suppose to have back surgery, but it won't be scheduled for another couple of weeks. I'll just have to wait and see.

I don't think they will charge your card until you check out, you just need a credit card to hold the room.

I had a hard time finding a hotel that was pet friendly and was not so darn expensive. then since it's that race weekend all the hotels are uping there price grrrrr to me thats price gauging and totally wrong! :( :mad:

My husband thinks we should be able to go, but it's not for sure so I don't want to say I will be in the gift exchange just yet.

No prob, as long as you tell me by Aug1st, then we should be good, that will give others enough time to shop.

I didn't even think of that. Which one are you leaning towards? I agree that's price gauging! They shouldn't be able to do that. Not everyone is staying because of the race. :rolleyes:

It was a little out of my price range but this hotel is pet friendly and has a lot to offer. The have a really nice pool area so if anyone wanted to come and swim Saturday evening, then they could.

It is right across the street from the Indy Mall, she says it's about 15 min from W56th street and that is the street where Eagle Creek Park in on.

The did have more rooms ava, so I suggest anyone who wants to get a room, you need to book now cause with that race going on, it's going to be very hard to get a room at the last minute at any hotel.

If you book it online at www.hotels.com it's only $105.00 a night, but they charge your card right away and if you book it with the hotel, they will not charge your card till you check out. What I want to do is wait till Aug and book my rool online (if ava) and get the lower price. If not, I just plan on saving now so I have plenty of money lol

When I clicked on the link for the hotel it came up w/ the Sheraton at 8787 Keystone Avenue. That's close to 86th Street in Clearwater which is basically Castleton, close to Keystone at the Crossing Fashion Mall. I saw a "52" on the map, but it was on a road that also said it was 465 & 421. That isn't 52nd street. I just wanted to make sure you guys knew this isn't right down the road from the park you're meeting at. Maybe the link just took me to the wrong hotel. My husband's grandparents live really close to the park (maybe 5 minutes away) so if you want to check out the area the hotel will be in if it's close to the park let me know & I can ask my husband. He knows most parts of Indy (re: safe or not so safe).

If we're in town that weekend I would like to come and bring Sugar. Do you know yet approximately how much each family will need to pitch in to cover the cost of the shelter & food?

Sorry, I guess I read the post wrong, I thought it said the hotel was on the same street as the park. That's what I get for not checking it twice like Santa!

I'm hoping to get enough familes that we will only have to donate about $10.

Right now I have 2 positive and a few maybes. But we have a long time to go.

Also, I knew the hotel was about 15 min away. I tried and tried to find a nice pet friendly hotel that was less then 5 min away, but they were all so expensive or already booked up.

But I'm very excited about the Sheraton!

I don't know what they are like on the inside, but the Ramada would be the closest. It's only 1 exit from the park. Probably a 5 minute drive. The first one, I think it was Super 8 is on the south side of town, so it would be more like 15-20 minutes or so. The middle link said "session expired" when I tried to open it. *****I can't stress how popular the U.S. Nationals is around here, everyone should book ASAP if possible. Especially since the drags are on the same side of town as the park we will be at!!!

Yes, that's a really nice side of town, right next to the big mall. Lots of nice restaurants very close, too. I've stayed there once for a breast cancer fundraiser shindig, it's VERY NICE. The other hotels are smaller and probably won't be as nice, but they'll probably be more reasonably priced.

I don't know if we are going to get a room. We will def. go to the meet-up though. Hubby doesn't want to pay much for a room, but that's okay. More I can spend on the gift exchange. :D

Clearwater is a very nice area (safe, clean, etc.) and if you like shopping you'll be very happy! The hotel is close to the Fashion Mall and Castleton Square Mall is really close also. There are also lots of restaurants to choose from in the area. I think you made a good choice. If I can come to the Meet Up I won't have to stay in the hotel because we only live about 45 minutes away from where you're meeting.

When is the deadline for signing up to come to the Meet Up? I won't participate in the gift exchange this year since I don't know yet if we can make it.

well I need to reserve the shelter asap, if not, we may not have one. So I need the donations in asap.

It looks like I'll have to miss this Meet Up. We usually go camping over Labor Day weekend so I most likely won't be in town. Maybe I can make it to the next one.

Having it over Labor Day weekend may be better for some people because it's a long weekend. If someone has to travel it might be easier over a holiday weekend.

That would be a solution! We typically camp at Turkey Run State Park that weekend. If something happens or if we end up not leaving until Sunday instead of Saturday would I still be able to come? I could bring a monetary & food donation when I came if that would be okay. If not, it's not a problem. I probably won't know what we're doing until the middle or end of August.

We also love to camp, State Parks are so nice to camp at. I love The Dunns in Michigan. I've never been to Turkey Run, I will have to look that one up.
