Well, boobah got spaded but....

Hello to all of you! I wanted to let you know that boobah got spaded this past Friday. I dropped her off at the vets about 9:30a and picked her up yesterday about 11:30 am. She seems to be very "skiddish" about things. She was very perky and gave me kisses when we picked her up. However, this is what is going on now.
Today, Sunday, she started humping on my friend's leg, sometimes fast and sometimes slow. I called the vets office and was referred to another vet that would be open on Sunday. And the gal who answered the phone said she didnt think that was normal. She said I could bring her in today, Sunday, but the cost would at least be 150.00...??? I told her I would take her back to my vets tomorrow Monday.
My question is, have any of you experienced this when your yorkie has been spaded? She had this operation done while she was in heat. The doctor knew this.....any comments would be appreciated.

I haven't experienced this-however, I do know that my two both acted really strange for a week/10 days after each of their spay surgeries. They had accidents, upset tummies, and seemed kind of out of it, which I think is probably a combination of getting the anesthesia out of their bodies, and a result of their abdominal muscles being tender from being moved during the surgery.

Thanks, I forgot about the anesthesia being in her body still. I mean, I guess I get too jittery when something goes wrong. She hasnt been humping at all lately, but right now she's just chewing on a bully stick. Thanks for that advice. It put my mind at ease.

Great, glad I could help!

If it doesn't get better in a few days, I would call and TALK to your vet-I wouldn't want to spend $150 to find out why my dog was humping either!

I'm glad the spay went okay Her being spayed doesn't have anything to do with the humping. If she was in heat, she'll have all kinds of crazy hormones right now which are causing her to hump. The hormones don't leave her body the moment she was spayed - it will take a few weeks for them to be gone completely. So right now she's probably going to act like she's still in heat until the hormones have a chance to die down.

Poor baby. It seems like it would hurt to be trying to hump so soon after surgery. Good luck.

My thought was I wonder if her stitches are itching and that is how she is trying to scratch them. Regardless I don't think it should be terribly worrisome behaviour and it can wait for your vet if you still feel she should be seen.

Thanks for all your info on Boobah's humping after spading! It sure has put my mind at ease. That's what is excellent about this website, you can ask all kind of questions and find info that will help your baby.
