| Hi again, and thanks for the "warm-fuzzy" welcome!! Yes, Natalie spends what little time she's out of my arms, in her pack n' play... (please don't tell me that's a bad thing.... well, unless it is, haha... but I've read so much about the dangers to these tiny babies, I'm not sure I could take one more today!!) With her being such a tiny 1.5 lbs at almost 6 months old, I'm still terrified every moment of her being injured... by the other four-leggers, or the kids running around, even my own "mis-step"... she is precious cargo to us and handled as such. I hadn't set out initially to bring such a tiny baby home... in fact, I was hoping for a little doll in the 5 lb adult range.... much like my little Morkie should be... The owner told me that Natalie would grow to be 4 lbs... our vet says MAYBE 2 lbs TOPS... but this little baby was so sad looking when I saw her, I just couldn't walk away and leave her! While she's been with me for a few months now, and she has gained some weight and seems like a much healthier pup - playful, content, HAPPY!! - I am still having some issues with her coat. As you can see in her photo, she's still a bit "rugged".... I haven't taken her to a groomer as I'm still nervous about letting anyone else get their hands on her! haha! But frankly, she still quivers sometimes... isn't wild about being carried unless she's securely tucked into my chest... (but then if I were just a lil' more than a pound, I'm not sure I'd want to "fly" either!!) - - and I just can't bear the thought of handing her over to ANYONE, even for short periods. I haven't been able to find a local groomer (OKC, OK) who "specializes" in care of the Yorkie coat, and I really would like to TRY to attain a "show coat" with Natalie.... or at least, as close as we can possibly get! She is quite thin on the top of her head... and while I'd love to do the whole ribbons and bows thing, I'm afraid of the hair thinning even more.... so I'm resisting.... (for now!) As for my "saving" this little one.... I don't know if I'd quite call it that.... trust that baby Natalie has, and continues to give - love, joy, giggles, happiness and contentment in astounding measures..... far more than anything I could ever offer her in return!!! But I'm certainly going to give her my all!!! As a new Yorkie mom, I'm open for any and all suggestions as to how to raise this little one!! Looking forward to the valuable input of this group!! Thank you all once more, for the welcome and kind words.... ~ Dena & Natalie ~ |

You're doing everything correct......taking great care of this baby. If you PM I'll give you Trish Kulessa's phone #. She is a yorkie breeder/handler/groomer....She lives in Del City and grooms in her home. Mary

| Thanks, Mary - for the groomer's info.... I'll be in touch with her soon! I think poor little Natalie is always going to look a wee bit "different" as that ridiculous (and I call her this lightly) "breeder" - took her tiny little tail OFF!!! I don't mean just docked her tail as the Yorkie standard... but my baby literally has NO TAIL!! If I feel very closely I can push in at her backside and tell where the very first little tail bone is, but that's all there is to it! Between that and her tiny little bald head-top - ::gigglin':: a great groomer is going to be essential!!! : Oh, and I know I'm in the wrong "category", but I couldn't find the thread that I was reading yesterday regarding different treats. I give Natalie "Ziggy's" - made by Kong.... they are fairly soft (once they get some chews to them!) and digestible.... they do tend to get a little "slimy" after a while, so I don't let her have them with her constantly - and they wash up nicely for the next time. She loves them! Anyone have any pro's / con's about these little treats? ~ Dena & Natalie ~ |

Trish can help you with a multitude of things.....she's the best. Not sure about the chewies though, since I think she doesn't give them to the show dogs..... Oh! She is a member of the Yorkshire Terrier Club of OKC....her assistant, Ken is the President.....so both are a wealth of Yorkie information.

| WELCOME! So glad you found us! My Tiny Tina was so little when we got her at seven months, and she also had very thin hair on her head. So I bought a shampoo for strengthening her coat and bathed her once week with it, and didn't use topknots for a long time, and her hair eventually thickened up on her head as it grew out. Also, she was just over two pounds until she was two, then had a case of menengitis (luckily she made it through). But as a treatment she went on prednesone and got up to 4 lbs! She has thankfully lost a lot of the excess weight, but stayed at right around 3 to 3.5 lbs since then. So it took me a few years to fatten her up, but it happened, and she has kept the healthy weight on! Just ask your vet about how to help her gain weight healthily, and keep up the good work! You seem to be such a caring person to have a heart big enough for all those dogs!!! Oh, and Tina has a tiny stub too, but she walks with so much more attitude because it is docked! I'd never advocate docking tails, but I have surely grown to love it on her! WELCOME WELCOME WELCOME!!!
