Do you tip your groomer Hello everyone :wavey: , this is something that has been on my mind and I wanted to ask ya'll for opinions. Max is my very first Furbaby so I'm really new to this whole thing about groomers. I wanted to know if ya'll tip your groomer when your baby gets groomed. Is there a rule for this? I did a search but didn't come up a thread that dealt with this topic. :animal36 |
Yes we tip $15 |
i tip where i go now because i like her and she has a great manner with the dogs. they get excited to go in, so i know she's treating them well. i have not tipped at petsmart. |
yes, I tip 15$ as well ... but that is for 2 babies .... I used to tip $10 for one ... |
I used to tip my groomer until her prices went up. I think she includes the tip for what I pay for the 3 kids. I took them last week & she charged me $160 for Misha, Piper & Max. I like her & her place. I feel the kids are real safe when leaving them. She only grooms small dogs, but I do feel she is way to high. I've taken them to a couple of other groomers and I didn't like their work. I keep her only because I trust her. Although every 6 weeks has cost me to start working again after being semi retired. |
Thank you for your quick replies. In regards to groomers at petsmart or petco are they still tipped the same or do you take a different approach or decision for them. I know they are employed by a big company so that is why I have this question when compared to small owned pet grooming salons. |
$15 is my tip for the Groomer and I always buy her a very nice Christmas gift. She has been w/me for 10 yrs:) |
Yes I tip she only charges $15-$20. |
lol....Wow....I must be cheap....When I used to take my Poodle, Romeo, and Daughter's yorkie, Maddie to the groomer- I tipped $5 per pet.-making my total bill about $50. The groomer is a lady that groomed out of her home. This was in the country....And her other clients did not tip....She usually charged $20 per pet....Everytime I tipped, she got all flustered and kept saying, NO no no....You already paid me... I would continue to use her but she is now 50 minutes from me.....So I groom myself... |
No but I wish my hubby would tip her - the groomer is ME! :D lol...sorry I just had to :p Wouldn't it be nice if he handed me a crisp new bill every time the babies got groomed :p Yeah right, DREAM ON! |

Yest that would be nice for you to get a nice crip bill every time you groomed your babies.:p |
my groomer is GREAT. I tip her $15 for Max and Abbie because she does such a great job. I also give her something for the holidays. |
I tip $5 per dog for a total of $15 but now y'all are making me feel cheap. |
Just found a groomer that I liked. I tip $5. Will top it with a nice Christmas gift for her and her doggie :D |
Yes i tip $10, |
Wow, I tip $5 on Kiwi's bill of $35.00. Now I feel cheap!:p |

Now I groom myself and it's all MINE!:D |
When tipping, I think you have to keep in mind where you live. I live in the Bay Area where everything is very expensive. So, I would plan on tipping on the high side. We have lived in a few different states, I always adjust my tipping (for anything) based on the cost of living in the area. |
I tip $20. That's for both babies. |
Grooming is a service just like a Hair stylist . Yes If you are happy with your service you show your gratitude with a tip. I am a stylist and my pay does not include a tip. if it did it would have to be posted. AMF my tips are what put food in my families mouth. No matter if it is a small shop or a Petsmart if I was happy I would show it with a good tip. :) |
I guess i'm cheap too. i tip $5.00... but i'm living on a tight budget with a new baby, formula and diapers are very expensive.... oh well |
I know a groomer who has retired and turned over the business to his son. When I started fostering Yorkies, & Bichons I had ask him about prices and tips. He said prices for grooming depends on what all you want done, and tips are usually 15 to 20% depending on the time it takes to groom. I use to have him cut nails only, but now I just do that myself, along with the grooming. He charged $5.00 for nail cut and file. |

Thank You WELL I'M GLAD I POSTED THIS AS IT HAS GIVEN ME A CLEAR PERSPECTIVE AS TO WHAT I SHOULD DO ABOUT TIPPING. TOMORROW MAX WILL BE GROOMED AND THE LADY WILL GET A TIP. I HAD ONE MORE QUESTION WHAT SHOULD I DO IF THE LADY THAT GROOMED HIM IS NOT THERE(OUT TO LUNCH OR SOMETHING). DO I GIVE THE TIP TO SOMEONE ELSE  I AM ASKING THIS B/C LAST TIME THE GIRL THAT GROOMED HIM WAS NOT A THE SHOP WHEN I PICKED HIM UP. DOES ANYONE KNOW WHAT I SHOULD DO IN THAT CASE. |
We tip 20% because she does such a good job. I would think a tip would be a standard just as you tip when you go the hairdresser for yourself. Just my opinion though. |

I would ask her to give her the tip. Or some nice salons will give you a small envelope to put your tip in and they give the tips to the stylists later. Perhaps you can ask for an envelope to put the money in and address it to her. That's what I would do. |
