Do you tip your groomer I tip even if they keep my 7lb girl for 5 hours and never bother to call that she is ready. She is never in bad shape, I brush her everyday and keep her face clean. |

I used to take mine to the same groomer my mom has always used...she was WONDERFUL, very sweet, and my dogs all wanted to stay and play when I got there (always a good sign). I always tipped her $10-$20 depending on how much hair she took off. BUT she opened up a new shop and started getting TONS of new business, and she overbooked, forgot appointments, made mistakes on the dogs, etc. Then my mom's dog got an eye infection and food poisoning after staying with her for a day, and ALL my dogs got KENNEL COUGH and some sort of odd parasite. My mom and I were really disappointed, and I became paranoid. My mom still takes her dog to that lady because Teddie doesn't like anyone else. I tried a couple different groomer's but ended up ordering all the tools and doing it myself. I feel so much better doing it that way...now I know EXACTLY what's being done to my babies!! |
As a former assistant groomer ( I was in training for a few months) I know that a lot of ppl will tip depending on the satisfaction they have with you. If your dog is happy, and looks good...and you have good customer relations you typically get a descent tip. Now, for my dogs, if I were to take them to a groomers then I would tip if they gave me all of the above, Good service, a happy dog, and a few other things, if not...then they will get a very low tip or none at all... |
Should you tip when the groomer is the owner too? She charges $30.00 for one dog. I have two to get groomed. I am on a very tight fixed income, so coming up with $60.00 is alot of money. Since she gets all the money she makes from the dogs she grooms, do I still tip? I don't mean to sound like a cheapskate, but I always wondered. If I am still supposed to tip I will next time. Let me know what you all think. Thanks ...... |

and I am okay with that since I pay $45 per pup per grooming .... (that is 100$ each time I go there) do not feel cheap. we work hard for our money also .... some people do not tip at all ...:2omg: Quote:

Ya'll have me feeling cheap...LOL... Rex goes every week and she charges $18 per visit... I had been tipping $2 to make it an even $20... After reading these posts... I'm gonna bump mine up to $5! |
I tip$10-20 depending on what Aria gets done. Now that I have two it'll probably be at least $20. We also get her a gift for the holidays. She does a great job and Aria loves her, so it's worth it!  |
I am the groomer, so from now on, I'll tip myself! |

Tink goes to Petsmart (for now). I only tip $5 cause the bill is only $20 and I rarely can get the same groomer so there's no rapport built. I'm thinking about getting a table and harness to do it myself. We'll see.;) |

If I had the courage I would groom Max myself but I'm afraid that I will mess up his coat. Plus I don't think his daddy(DH) would let me groom him.:p |
Mine cost $30 to groom, and I usually give them around $5 for a tip..think I read somewhere where you should tip them 10%, which means $3 would be sufficient..believe me my neighbor is a groomer, and they make pretty good pay as it is.. |

I'm a manicurist-so I tip the salon standard of 20% of the service |
Max's groomer costs about $44, so I give him $50. Now that I have Gracie Leigh, I guess I'll just round it out to $100, which is $6.00/dog. He only takes an hour with Max, and I doubt if Gracie Leigh will take more time than that. Absolutely, a Christmas gift - it's just a nice way of saying thank you. No offense, please, but what does your groomer do to warrant a $20 tip? |

But, back to your original question...when I get my hair done, I tip my cosomotologist. When I get my dogs groomed, I tip my groomer. Usually, it's a $5 tip. |
Where we used to live, when I only had 2 :aimeeyork, I took them to the groomer at our vet's office. She had to "rent" the space from him, always had a bag of home made treats and a new scarf for them, kept me supplied with shampoo & grooming spray (at no extra charge) & was excellent with them both. She charged me $44 for both of them & I'd give her $50. When Rocky was born she was determined that I was going to learn to groom my own dogs. So on grooming day I would go with my dogs & watch/help her groom them. She was a wonderful teacher. We moved 3 years ago, she still sends them new scarves for the holidays and we still send her a present at Christmas. |
I have not read all the posts here...but I have to ask...since I groom my dogs myself...should I be tipping myself?? :D :D I think so. good excuse to give myself some play money anyway LOL |
When I used to take Crystal it was $45 and I always tip 20% so that is $9 and she did a great job. I am now retired and on a fixed income so I do it my self but if I did bring her in sometime I would think she still deserved the $54 whether I can afford it or not. |

oops,I meant the outside of his ears! she also forgets to pluck the ears that irritate the indiiide of his eard!;) |
I dont tip my groomer as I pay enough as it is, IMHO. I pay right at 100 now for 3, and one is just toe clip/bath. He does get a Christmas gift from me. Usually a 30 Chilils Gift Certificate |
