Cotton Coat and Matting.....HELP!!!

If you brush AND comb through your dog's hair every day, it should not matt up. You may get some little tangles during the day but no matts should form within a day. Just make sure you brush well...not leaving any tangles at the skin and go back through the hair with a comb.

Rosi was a nightmare when she was a pup, brush,brush... she would matt easy, get grooming tools from CC that helps and their dedangeling products. I also had groomer shave under armpits as i was useing the Buddybelt also, the older she got the better her coat got !

I'd switch shampoos, too. Most people don't realize that the pH in human baby shampoos aren't right for dogs and will dry the coat out. You're better off sticking with products specially formulated for a dog's coat.

When you bathe him, make sure to just gently massage the shampoo into his coat. If you rub it it will make it mat. Use a good conditioner and brush him while blowing him dry.

If you get really good grooming tools and make sure you brush him all the way down to skin, that should help with matting.

I do realize human shampoo, even baby shampoo is not good for their coats, I was just desperate. I use the Paul Mitchell Grooming products for dogs and cats otherwise, thank god my salon carries it. I did notice a big difference in his coat after the baby shampoo but it did make a big difference in the matting. Vinnie just can't stand to be brushed, but I do it everyday, he doesn't mind so much, except after the bath. He hates the hair dryer, and I have yet to find one that's ok to use on dogs, cuz that too is something you have to be careful with. Thank you for the advice!

And that's the primary problem, the buddy belt! When I go home after work I put it on him to take him out and then I leave it on until he's gone out for the last time at night....is that wrong? I don't mind taking it on and off but he hates taking it off...not putting it on...but taking it off.
