We don't walk Gracie or Hallee anywhere...they go in their pet stroller...aka "pink buggy". If a big dogs come our way even in the stroller we turn and go the other way.

No I don't walk them. We play fetch and catch mommy in the backyard so they get plenty of exercise. I also take them for walks in their stroller, so they get to see what's going on in the outside world.

Man, I guess I'm the only one but I find that a little sad. You can keep them safe, and there is such a thing as being too overprotective IMO. Theres nothing my furbabies enjoy more than long walks running about, sniffing trees and having fun. The thought of any dog being stuck inside a house and yard or a stroller never experiencing what being a dog is all about depresses me

I understand exactly what you are going through I was always very cautious when I had one, She was never out of my sight and my attention was always focused on the possibilities of what could happen. However now that I have two, I am just petrified to take them anywhere, so they are strictly house dogs on Wee wee pads! There is no way that I would be able to keep them both safe from another animal that might attack or a person that might try to grab one or on and on goes all the things that could happen….

I have to fence in my yard though I have not yet decided on what products to use, and just how I want and need it done. Hopefully next years project.

Frankly I understand what you are saying and I more than 50% agree, however they are horrible on a leash and are always getting tangled and running way ahead of me. When I try to catch up to untangle them they are off again, then finally Sahara just stops and doesn’t want to walk any further but does not want to be held either, so I put her down and she runs in the opposite direction pulling Dennis around. A fenced in yard is what they need and I would love to provide for them.

I do take them for rides in the car, which Dennis loves though Sahara gets car sick!

So perhaps what you need to do is work on their behavior when you go out, rather than avoiding the situation completely?
