| Anyone else deal with inverse sneezes and do they always happen at night? Cinnamon gets these things about once a week and even though I know what they are and that they wont hurt her...they still freak me out. Its hard to believe that they are harmless...she looks likes she is struggling to breath and I feel so helpless. And,it always happens at night, in the middle of the night. Usually I just rub her throat and it stops, but Im not really sure Im helping her or me. When it happens it seems to last an hour or so. Is this common with these little dogs and is there anything I can do to help her or stop them? I have two other little dogs and they never have had anything like this. This Yorkie is by far the most high maintenance dog I have ever had. Its always one thing or another. Laura |

Donating YT 30K Club Member | Mine get it quite often. I hold there nose and mouth shut for a second and it forces them to breathe normally again. LOL they are high maintenance but worth it!!

| Yep, mine do it too-especially during the fall months when allergens are high. Just plug their noses gently with your finger. This will force them to open their mouth, or to swallow, which will alleviate the sneezes right away. If it gets bad/frequent, take them to the vet, they can give you meds to treat the allergies for a few weeks.

| Jake does it quite often and, in fact, did it at the vet one time which I was glad for so that he could hear it. He said not to worry, it's just a reverse sneeze. He does it when he gets excited, but he never acts like he's having trouble breathing or anything.

| My Tino does it too. He is so used to it that when it happens, he just stands there and lets me cover his nostrils so he starts breathing slower and more relaxed. It is a comical sight actually when people see me do it for the first time.

| Out of the last 6 dogs I have had ALL of them had this. Only two were serious. A blue-blooded beagle that was allergic to EVERYTHING and my little Cassie the Shi tzu. I control them by pinching their nostrils (almost shut, until they sniff in a couple of times and that usually does it. Because they were/are so frequent and severe both dogs run/ran to me so I could hold their noses. LOL. Buddy always had to be held and cuddled afterward but Cassie goes about her business like it never happened. Ivan and Adie have it occasionally and it doesn't seem to phase them at all. |

| This sounds a little odd.... My Toby doesn't get anything like this... hopefully there's good advice out there, because I know I would be freaking out. |

| Gracie does it fairly regularly. She does it when she's excited (like when we come home).

| That sounds scarey, but I'm glad you got a lot of good information.
