| What do you pay for skin scrapings? Ellie might need one tonight and I don't want to be surprised when I get the bill. I internet says that they don't hurt. Is that true?

| Skin Scrapings shouldn't hurt, its exactly how its called. My vet usually charges around $100 for any type of test, plus the cost of visit. |

| Holy Moly. I hope it isn't that much. Maybe I can talk the vet into just treating what I think it is...lol.

| What is a skin scrapping, and what do you think is wrong with Ellie? Is the skin scrapping to see what's wrong with the pup. I hope it's not to expensive for you. Best wishes.

| A skin scraping is where they scrape a scalpel on the skin and get a sample. They do this to check for mites. Some vets will just treat for mites without this test because there are a lot of false negatives but I don't know if our vet would do that. I think Ellie might have Sarcoptic Mange (scabies). She has been scratching her ears like crazy and it doesn't seem to be allergies.

| If you think it is mange you should really get a scraping, it would be easier for them to prescribe a treatment if they no which type of mange it is. Or it might not be mange at all. |

| The problem with getting a scraping is I think it Sarcoptic Mange. If that is the case, skin scrapings show up as false negative about 50% of the time.

| Maddie has had skin scrapings on a couple of spots and I wasn't charged..I just paid the office call and nothing more. He did the scrapings and then went back to look under the microscope. Has the vet checked Ellie's ears? Libby got a yeast infection in her ears and she scratched them like crazy. I got drops for her ears and she's doing much better. I hope little Ellie doesn't have mange!

| Ellie had a yeast infection in her ears earlier this year. It isn't that. It makes me feel a little better that your vet did it for free. Atleast it's not a $150 procedure or something. Hopefully it's under $25 or she doesn't do one at all.

| I left out that when I had the skin scraping done they also did a culture. Which would explain the cost. |

| We had to take Squeaky to the Vet yesterday - he had started scratching about a week or so ago - and the medicine he was taking wasn't helping. I'm looking at our charges and they charged $32.00 for the Skin Scraping. The Vet said that there were two types of mites and one was difficult to see so she used a product called Revolution($17.50). It works like the Frontline but it's for the mites also. She has taken away all of his treats and his regular dry food (Royal Canin Yorkshire 28)and put him on Hill's Prescription Diet - Duck and Potato. I got a can of wet food to make "meatballs" to give him in the place of the treats. This is our first day and so far, no scratching. I'm keeping my fingers crossed because Squeaky nor I could go thru another day of the scratching. He was miserable and when he's miserable and I can't fix it for him, I get upset...I'll cry and he'll lick my tears...who's comforting who???? Good luck with your baby... |
